PROPELLER ACCURACY

A Prime Essentia l to Smooth, Efficient Operation Leading builders and marine architects select their propellers with the greatest possible care, knowing full 'r: tha t in addition to matching correctly the power and I~~ \7c the propeller itself must be perfectly balanced, spaced ?}" pitched if the ultimate in power, speed, economy and smoot ' operation is to be secured. Consequently it is 1110St gratify -ing to us to note that leaders in this field are turning in cons tantly greater numbers to our products in recognition of the grea ter accuracy built into Michigan :Machined-Pitch P ropellers and the better results that they provide.

ABSOLUTE ACCURACY

Is Positively Assured by Michigan's Exclusive Machined-Pitch Process

PERFECT PATTE R NS. Accuracy in a propeller is born in the original pattern. If this is not perfect neither can be the finished product. Recognizing that inaccuracies and val;~ables were bound to creep in when patterns are made in the accepted fashion, Michigan \·Vheel Corporation about seven years ago developed the Helical Planer shewn below. This machine, used exclusively by liS, eliminates the human element, carves the original wood pattern ·wit:' unerring precision. From this is cast a metal pattern whk h in tUrn is fully mach ined on the Helical Planer. Th e r suit is a precisely acct;rate, perfect pattern fr0111 ·which ev.ery 'd ~ __ made 'will be uniformly perfect. ~.-_-

The exactness of the f.,llach ined-Pitch Process enables us to un hes itat ingly g uarantee each Michigan Propeller to be of pl-ecision accuracy, and thousands of users have been

PROPELLER SELECTION .c· Too great emphasis cannot be p laced on the correct propeller for your outboard outfit if maximum results are desired. T he propeller direct ly control s th e speed of the boat, r.p.m. of t he m otor, a nd the degree of smoothness of

,....=<;-~.D e ration ; and 011 some motors, even the cooling of the :otor. The fo repart of th is ca talog describes briefly the

.:dent "lv[ichigan" has gone to build propellers of absolute ccuracy·, The s ize of the propeller (diameter , pitch, desig n,

and number of b lades) is the next importan t point '.to co nsider in your repl acement or spare propeller.

It is readily apparent that th e propeller as furnished with the motor cannot possibly provide maximum results with every boat and load condition. By the adaptation of cor rect size and sty le propeller, we have time and again increased t he speed of outfi ts one to five miles pe r hour and in SOIll.e cases as m uch as s ix and eight m.p.h. A ll recommendatio ns are based on turning the motor at or very close ~9 the engine manufacturer's r.p.ll1. rating.

Briefly , heavy boats or loads req uire prope.ll ers of gr·m tt:r diameter and b lade area with low pitch, and vice versa for ligh t ins tallations. Our experience in many tho usands of installat ions enables us to determine accurate ly , with boa ts oi proven design, the correct diameter and pitch combination when full data all the hull and load is g iven.

\\"rit e fo r ~'Ii chigan's special pamphlet entitled , "Ho\~r T O GET T HE 1l0ST O UT O F YOUR OUTB OARD ~fOTOR AN D BOAT," which contains a wealth of information on simple " kinks" to improve performance.

Available this year are the new three bladt: outboard .-\q ua-~·[ a s ter s , guaranteed on a mo ney-back bas is -to p rovide irom 2 to 5 m.p.h. greater speed for ru nabouts and fas t util ities. Ava ilab le for mo tors above 9 h.p. only. \"rite for descriptive pamphlet .

....-=C~al recommendat ions a re g iven in the las t column in io llowing pages, although careful analysis of each job

will be g-iven if full in format ion o n boat and motor is subm itted. Data cards to fi ll out are available o n request • . . ,.
