Dear Mr. Schwartzman:
The enclosed letter provides summary information on worker impacts, such as the collectiveradiation dose received by workers, total hours worked on Radiation Work Permits, total hoursworked on the project, volume of waste excavated, volume of targeted waste removed, andproject cost, for the Accelerated Retrieval Project CARP) II conducted at the Idaho ationalLaboratory Site. As previously discussed with you, the information you originally requested forARP I would have been more difficult to retrieve, as that phase of the project occurred during aperiod of transition from one contractor to another.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (208) 526-0 I07.

Dear Mr. Cooper:
As directed, CWI bas compiled the Accelerated Retrieval Project (ARP) IIradiation and costinformation. This data (see below) includes the collective radiation dose received by workers, totalhours worked on Radiation Work Permits (RWP), total hours worked on the project, volume ofwaste excavated, volume of targeted waste removed, and project cost for ARP II.
Dose data and RWP hours were retrieved from the dose tracking data base used by CWI. Pleasenote that the dose reported in CY 2007 is from data collected from electronic dosimeters while thedose reported for CY 2008 and 2009 are from the collective TLD results of individuals working atARP.

I RWP Hours 24,398 146,019 48,172Dose (mrem) 1,350 6,022 2,991
ARP IT commenced operation on July 31,2007 and ran concurrently with ARP I until April 2008, atwhich time, ARP I excavation was completed. The radiological data for CY 2007 and 2008 has

been adjusted to remove the ARP I data. In CY 2009 ARP ill operations commenced in Januaryand ARP II operations were completed in July. CY 2009 radiological data was also adjusted toremove ARP m data. Adjustments were needed because waste was being exhumed and processedin two facilities for some time. The radiological data adjustments consisted of: subtracting ARP I orillspecific data from the quarterly values obtained from the dose tracking data base; dividing thenet quarterly values by three (three months per quarter); dividing the net monthly value by two forthe months in which two facilities were in operations; and adding the ARP TI net values together.
The volume of waste excavated is the amount of material (soil, targeted waste, and non-targetedwaste) exhumed from the waste zone. The volume of targeted waste removed is the volume oftargeted material packaged in 55 gallon drums.
Waste volume quantities were derived from the Subsurface Disposal Area Buried WasteInformation data base.
Project hours worked and costs were derived from the CWT financial reporting system data base.Construction hours and costs were included in the data presented in Table 2. .
