Bulletin October: Economic & Community Development Month Hello Rotarians The Pride of Workmanship Awards was a wonderful event and one which I look forward to each year. It was great having seven awardees and also the 28 or so guests who really added to the eve- ning. Lara Barrett did a great job with the awards and her overall organisation was outstanding. Tom was also at his best and with his historical knowledge just adding greatly to the occasion - so a big thanks to Lara and Tom. The awardees all spoke well and all made the point that it is "teamwork" that these people enjoy, and that is why they all love their work. The Rotary Club of Mount Martha's annual Golf Day will be held on November 18 at the Mount Martha Golf Club. This is our big fund raising day so please get along to either play or help out the guys setting up for the day. Also please remember to visit all our potential Golf Day supporters in order to maximise the support for what should be a very special day. We do have a couple of requests for fundraising assistance and they are both very worthwhile. Damian Whittle who is the President of Peninsula Rotaract Club in District 9820 is part of an organisation called Steer North. On December 3rd he embarks on a 4000km bike ride over 45 days from Melbourne to Cairns. Along the way he will engage with the Australian community with the aim of inspiring and empowering people to live healthy and active lives, through health promotion pro- grams. Damian would like to invite you to a Movie Night he is holding at the Morn- ington Cinema on October 28 in an attempt to reach his fundraising target of $5000. The second comes from Ben, the son of Roger and Lyn Annear. Ben spoke to us in 2014 about Mountain Biking at Mt Buller. Ben has taken on the Great Cycle Challenge to raise funds to fight kids cancer. Tom Goulding took the chair and introduced all the awardees and family members and guests The Swindle was undertaken with the sergeant providing his usual amusing session whilst swelling the clubs coffers from those committing indiscretions during the week, even if doubtful as to some of the validity. The swindle again provided no winners except the club coffers also. Tom then introduced David Morris MP (Member of the Victorian Legislative

Assembly for Mornington .) David talked of his early times in small business in Mornington. His involvement with the local Chamber of Commerce to reactivate the local branch then his move into local government and then finally into state gov-ernment politics. He talked of his beliefs and values in representing his local community and

the manner in which he conducts himself, and the importance for all successful workers of

doing it once and doing it well. And if you love what you are doing you are well on the way to

doing it well.

Notice From Tim Moore—Webinar Clubs now have the flexibility to offer many types of membership – ultimately it is up to the Club. Corporate membership has meant different things to different clubs – but they must pay their Rotary fees as all active members. Some have made a price that includes funds for a project – eg $1200 per year – one name is used but up to 3 may share that membership and come at different times. I will be covering the new flexibility in membership in a Go To Meeting/Webinar on the 25

th or 27

th Octo-

ber – see the latest DG Newsletter or district9820.org for details. There is also a webinar on the RC of Melbourne’s efforts – this would be really good to be part of https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/3940989799813652228 Let me know how you go With thanks—Tim *************************************************************************************************

Movie Night for a good Cause. See Dougs Note front page My name is Damian and I am the President of Peninsula Rotaract Club in District 9820. I am also part of an organisation

called Steer North and on December 3rd I embark on a 4000km bike ride over 45 days from Melbourne to Cairns. Along

the way we will engage with the Australian community with the aim of inspiring and empowering people to live health

and active lives through health promotion programs.

I am contacting you because I need your help. Each rider has committed to a

fundraising goal of $5000 to be able to participate in the ride and I am currently half way there. Steer North is a not-for-

profit organisation raising vital funds for the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre benefiting cancer research, educa-

tion and patient care. If you are interested in finding out more about Steer North or would like to donate directly to my

fundraising goal head to: http://steernorth.org.au/rider/damian-whittle/ Any help would be greatly appreciated

and will give me the opportunity to be a part of something truly amazing.

I also invite you to a Movie Night I am holding at the Mornington Cinema on October

28 in an attempt to reach my fundraising target. If you are interested in attending please

contact me at [email protected]

THE CONFESSION

Hi Bob, This is John next door. I’m sorry buddy, but I have a confession to make to you.

I've been riddled with guilt these past few months and have been trying to pluck up the courage to tell you to your face, but I am at least now telling in text as I can’t live with myself a moment longer without you knowing.

The truth is, I have been sharing your wife, day and night when you're not around. In fact, probably more than... you. I haven’t been getting it at home recently, but that's no excuse I know.

The temptation was just too much….I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies and forgive me. I promise that it won't happen again.

Please come up with a fee for usage, and I'll pay you. Regards, John

THE ACTIONS Bob, feeling insulted and betrayed, grabbed his gun, and shot his neighbor dead.

He returned home where he poured himself a stiff drink and sat down on the sofa.

He took out his phone where he saw he has a subsequent message from his neighbour:-

THE SECOND MESSAGE Hi Bob, This is John next door again. Sorry about the slight typo on my last text. I expect you worked it out anyway, but I’m sure you noticed that my Autocorrect changed ‘Wi-Fi’ to ‘Wife’. Technology, eh?!?

Hope you saw the funny side of that. Regards, John (I think we can all relate to the crazy substitutions Autocorrect can make)
