When the Robins played in the Cup Final
their goalie, Simon Mouthman, was
warned that if, this time, Spurs win, do
not beat up their German captain Ernst
Roudmann again but he did and the ref
ordered him off the field. Following a
ban for his behaviour he was distraught
and decided to go on holiday; but where
to go? Perhaps Wigan,Oban, Bury or
Brighton; in the end he picked on the
latter and seeking new entertainment
went to the casino, gambled wildly and
finished up broke, nil, worth nothing.
Now, desperate for work, he got a job
making hamburgers at The Queen’s
Hotel. Alas, alack, one day, following
a cleaver fight with the chef, he was
killed. “Bury him in Cheltenham”, the
family demanded. This was done and a
memorial stone, housed at the Robin’s
ground, was erected to record his tragic
end; at the unveiling ceremony all the
players wore crosses in his memory.
