Every 8 seconds somewhere in the world, someone dies, because of tobacco

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated that India has the second largest number of smokers in the world after China

India spends Rs 30,000 crore annually to treat tobacco-related diseases, an amount which is four times the revenue generated by the tobacco industry

Nearly 80% of the world's one billion smokers live in low-and middle-income countries.

50% of cancer deaths, 40% of all health-related problems, and a majority of cardio-vascular and lung disorders in INDIA are due to tobacco use.

5 reasons why people smoked

1.

1• People love to smoke tobacco. This could be due to the stimulant

received, the intoxication and the addictive property of nicotine

2• Smoking was in-style and fashionable at several periods in time.

Smoking can be termed and defined as "cool", etc.

3

• In the past many people believed that smoking could protect them from illness. This is in combination with the idea that smoking was at least not harmful.

4.• For no real reason, people imitate others, or in other words, “monkey

see, monkey do”. They start it for fun and get addicted to it

5

• Finally, a nation can become 'addicted' to the revenues produced by taxes placed upon tobacco products. The governments never did anything to educate people.

About 6 trillion cigarette butts litter the earth every year

1.7 billion pounds of cigarette butts accumulate in lakes and

oceans and on beaches and the rest of the planet every year Cigarette butts are not only everywhere, but they are

toxic and non-biodegradable Cigarette butts ooze out chemicals such as cadmium, lead, and arsenic

into the marine environment within an hour of contact with water.

The simple act of lighting a match to your cigarette, cigar, or pipe puts your

home at risk of fire Tobacco chewers don’t swallow the tobacco juice but will spit in the

garden, in the park, on the sidewalk
