This makes a15" block !Please abide by theTerms and Conditions of use!:o)

Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block

Start by cutting the Color 2 4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut in half on both diagonals to make eight Quarter Square Triangles.Next cut the Color 2 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip into four 2-3/8" squares. Stack those and cut them in half on one diagonal to make eight Half Square Triangles

Now cut the Color 3 2" x 8" strip into four 2" squaresCut the Color 3 3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squaresNext cut the Color 3 4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut in half on both diagonals to make eight Quarter Square TrianglesThen cut the Color 3 3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack those and cut them in half on one diagonal to make four Half Square Triangles

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3 3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a scant1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the 3-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight Half Squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 3-1/2" inches

King David's Crown - Page 2

Using a scant 1/4" seam now and throughout the block making, sew the Color 2 and Color 3 2" x 14" strips right sides together along one long edge. Press seam to the darker side. Cut this at 3-1/2" intervals to get four 3-1/2" pieced units

Next sew together Color 2 and Color 3 Quarter Square Triangles in pairs as shown at left, joining the pairs to make four Quarter Square units. Sew a 3-1/2" pieced unit from the step above to each of these Quarter squares. These should measure 3-1/2" x 6-1/2"

The next step is to sew a Color 2 Half Square Triangle right sides together to the top edge of a Color 3 2" square. Press seam towards the triangle. Add another Color 2 Half Square Triangle right sides together to the to the left edge of the square Press seam towards the triangle again. Now add a Color 3 3-7/8" Half Square Triangle, pressing seam towards the larger Half Square Triangle. This should measure 3-1/2". Make four pieced corner units like this

Now lay out, and then sew together four units as shown at left. To do this, first join a Color 3 3-1/2" square to a Color 1/Color 3 Half Square, pressing seam towards the Half Square. Then sew another Half Square unit to the pieced corner unit we made in the step above, again pressing towards the Half Square. Sew those two units together. This should measure 6-1/2" square. Make four units like this

Now lay out all the units we pieced as shown at left, with the extra Color 1 3-1/2" square as the block's center. Sew three horizontal rows, alternating pressing direction by row. Join those rows to finish up your block! Good Job!

Here are four blocks by five, with a pieced border made of these units:Those are made with more Color 1/Color 3 3-1/2" half squares, Color 3 3-1/2" squares. Use Color 3 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles as spacers!

Crow's Feet Variation Quilt Block

Supplies List

Color 1Color 1 needs: one 4-1/2" x 18" strip AND one 2-1/2" x 20" strip AND one 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip

Color 2Color 2 needs: one 4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip AND one 2-1/2" x 20" strip AND one 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip

Color 3Color 3 needs: one 4-1/2" square AND one 4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip AND one 2-1/2" x 10" strip

Color 4Color 4 needs: one 2-1/2" x 18" strip AND one 2-1/2" x 20" strip

This makes a16" block , and is actually the more common Crow's Feet design, with a corner variation! Please abide by theTerms and Conditions of use!:o)

Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block

Start by cutting the Color 1 4-1/2" x 18" strip into four 4-1/2" squares. Next cut the Color 1 2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Now cut the Color 1 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares

Cut the Color 2 4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Now cut the Color 2 2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Next cut the Color 2 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares

Now cut the Color 3 4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Then cut the Color 3 2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares

Next cut the Color 4 2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Lastly, cut the Color 4 2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares

Time to speed piece the half squares! To make the larger half square units, stack a Color 2 and Color 3 4-7/8" square right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly draw in the diagonal, then sew a scant 1/4" inch away from that line on both sides of it. Cut apart ON the drawn line between the rows of stitching to get two large half squares. Press seams to the darker side, and trim to measure 4-1/2" if needed. Make four of these larger half square units in the same way. Then make eight small half square units in the same manner, using the Color 1 and Color 2 2-7/8" squares. Again press to the darker side, and trim each of those to measure 2-1/2" if needed

Crow's Feet Variation - Page 2

Next, using scant 1/4" seams now and for the rest of the block-making, sew four of each of the units shown at top left. Then sew the shorter of the two top units to the right edge of two large half square units, having the Color 3 (purple) side of the half square in the the lower right position. Press seam towards the large half square. Add the longer unit to the bottom of each unit you just made, pressing seams towards the newly added strips. Make a total of two units like this, then make two more reversing the locations of the larger Half square colors Each should measure 6-1/2" at this point

To make the flying geese units, place a Color 1 2-1/2" square right sides together atop the left end Color 4 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. (I show mine staggered here so you can see what units I am talking about.) On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sewonthis diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four flying geese units in the same manner. These should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2"

Now sew each flying geese unit to the upper edge of each Color 1 4-1/2" square. Next, in the same manner as you "made new corners" for your flying geese unit rectangles....sew Color 2 2-1/2" squares to the lower corners of your Color 1 squares, again trimming off the excess seam allowance and pressing the remainder towards the new green corner triangles. Make a total of four of these units. They should measure 4-1/2" x 6-1/2"

Lastly, lay out all the units we've made plus the one extra Color 3 4-1/2" square you cut as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows. Alternate pressing directions by row. Join the rows together to finish up your Crow's Feet Variation block! Good Job!!

On Target Star Quilt Block

Supplies List

Color 1Color 1 needs:one 2" square AND one 4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip

Color 2Color 2 needs:one 2-3/4" square AND one 2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strip AND one 4-1/4" square

Color 3Color 3 needs:one 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip

Color 4Color 4 needs:one 4" x 14" strip AND one 4-1/4" square

This makes a 9" block! This is an original pattern. Please abide by theTerms and Conditions of use!:o)

Cut the Color 2 2-3/4" square in half on both diagonals to make four quarter square triangles. Then cut the Color 2 2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strip into two 2-7/8" squares. Stack the squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles

Now cut the Color 3 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip into four 2-3/8" squares. Stack the squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles

Next, using the template provided cut four units from the Color 4 4" x 14" strip

Cut the Color 1 4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack the squares and cut them once on each diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles. Then cut the Color 2 and Color 4 4-1/4" squares each in half on both diagonals to make four quarter square triangles from each. Now, using scant 1/4" seam allowances sew these quarter square triangles together to make four of the side units shown at left. These should measure 3-1/2" when complete, so trim if needed

Next lightly crease the Color 2 half square triangles, the Color 4 template units, and four of the Color 3 half square triangles to find the mid way points. Matching these up, and again using a scant 1/4" seam allowance, sew four of the corner units shown at left. These should also measure 3-1/2" when complete, so trim if needed

Then sew Color 2 quarter square triangles to opposing sides of the Color 1 2" square. Press seams to outside. Add two more QSTs to the remaining two sides of the square, again pressing to the outside. Now sew Color 3 half square triangles to opposing sides, pressing outward again, and lastly add the remaining Color 3 HSTs and press to the outside. This is the block's center unit, and it too should measure 3-1/2" when complete

Now lay out all units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing the upper and lower row seams to the center and the middle row seam to the outside. Sew the three rows together to complete the block!
