Quick start guide to CRIS

1.   Login

Firstly, get your CRIS and PACS(esp useful for ultrasound) login set up User ID:   first 3 letters of last name and first 2 letters of first name e.g Daniel Hofferman    =  Hodan Case sensitive.

*Advance Tip What does it mean that to point PACS to the correct site

Each CRIS will automatically load PACS images to the PACS server it is pointed to. E.g. if doing reporting for GRI/Stobill and CRIS is pointed to GRI PACS, images scanned at GRI will load automatically. Stobhill scans will need to be loaded manually each time.

It will be easier for someone to show you this.

*Tip: Ultrasound rooms have computers with CRIS and PACS programs but are not autolinked to load images automatically. You will need an individual site specific PACS login to access the images in the US room. PACS login needs to be reconfigure with the PACS manager each time you change a site.

6.   Finish or verify.

" Finish " or " Verification" tabA non-reported scan with saved images will look like A finished report will look like A verified report for checking will look like.   A verified report sent to PACS will look like

*Disk means images have been saved onto PACS*Scanners mean paper request card was scanned onto the system.*With trackcare in place, electronic vetting means scanners are seldom seen.

*Tip: In general for a trainee, a finished report usually indicates the report has not been fully completed and there are still changes prior for the consultant to review.  A verified report  means it is ready for consultant review.

7. What happens if I clicked finish before I have keyed in the consultant's details

After clicking on “finish” and the “save” buttons on the next page,

the report will not have gone to PACS and will be in your "report info list " under the unverified tab.  Just make sure the filter search range is set up according to the site, modality and period you were looking at to look at those finished reports.

8.   What happens if I clicked verify before I have keyed in the consultants details.

The report will have gone to PACS.  It would be important for your consultant to know about this so he can have the film checked through.  Within 15mins of the report being verified, it is possible to speak to your CRIS manager to have the report retracted. After 15mins, you will have to add an addendum to the report for any changes made.

9. So do I finish or verify?

In short =

Finishing a report is a more tedious process for the trainee and consultant but safer way of ensuring reports are not accidentally independently verified by the new trainee. * The reason for the hassle is that the consultant has to key in a reason for every report that he agrees or disagrees with.

Verifying report is faster both for the trainee and consultant. Less safe because trainees sometimes forget to key in their consultants details and when the report gets verified it is locked into clinical portal.

My suggestion is to go for finish first but try both to understand the workings of both methods.

10. Confirming

This confirms both the trainee’s and consultant’s name will be on the report.

10. Add/change/remove consultant’s names

To add/change/remove consultant’s names from the report, right click over the blue area and select “Properties”

Enter consultant’s details into this space and click saveDo this for the “clinical history” and “report”
