The NovaPACS Enterprise Viewer was designed by a radiologist to look like a light board. The design goal was to have the radiologist’s eyes trained on images on the screen rather than on keys or buttons. Therefore, most of the functionality is ac-cessed by using the mouse.

Note: We recommend using a wheel mouse when running the Image Viewer.

The Image Viewer consists of two parts:

1. The Study Browser - The Study Browser functions as the control panel for the Enterprise Viewer. It is from this window that you determine most of the features and functionality of the Enterprise Viewer, including which images are displayed in the Image window.

2. The Image Viewer - The role of the Image Window is to display images as deter-mined by your selections from the Study Browser. From the Image Window you can modify how these images are displayed.

sTaRTinG THe pRoGRaM

To start the NovaPACS Viewer, log on using the NovaPACS user name and password assigned to you by your administrator.

Note: The PACS can also be configured to use the user’s Windows login. If this is the case, and you have already logged into Windows, you will not be prompted to login to the viewer.

Note: Because the NovaPACS is a web-based software, you will need to have internet availability on your computer to run the program.

When you login this is the screen that will appear:

Diagnostic Viewer - DICOM PACS viewer that allows end users the full functionality of the product. This will be slower to initialize then the Lite Viewer but will provide complete access to all functions.

Lite Viewer - JPEG PACS viewer that is designed to be very quick loading and able to download on any internet browser including Windows, Firefox, etc. These images are not diagnostic quality but provide a quick look at both the images and patients’ reports. This viewer is very effective for viewing on mobile devices and quick in–office updates.

Single Study Access - A site granted web access to any physician with internet ac-cess. This provides access to one patient’s PACS record from a designated time frame.

Right-click and drag: Window leveling is accomplished by right-clicking the mouse and dragging up and down or right to left to get the desired contrast levels.

Clicking both the right and the left mouse together and dragging away from you, zooms the image up.

Clicking both the right and the left mouse together and dragging towards you, returns the image to its original view.

Holding the wheel down after the image has been zoomed up allows panning.

The Study Browser allows access to patient exams and patient records.

usinG fiLTeRs

From the Study Browser you can control and customize most of the features and functions of the Image Viewer.

Filters allow you to specify the information displayed in the Filtered Studies list panel.




cusToMiZinG THe fiLTeRs GRoup

You can add or remove filter files from the filters group by right-clicking on the bar and then left-clicking on the appropriate filter in the pop-up list.

Note: The Saved Filters and Data Source fields are not optional, and therefore do not appear in the optional pop-up list.

saVed fiLTeRs

Saved Filters allows you to create and save custom filters that reflect the filter settings you use on a regular basis.

1. Set the desired settings in all the filter fields.

2. Select Edit Saved Filters.

3. Enter a name for the new filter.

4. Select OK.

Most users will only use one data source. However, if you have additional data sources available to you, the Data Source filter allows you to select the source from which you want to access the patient data.



TiMe fRaMe

Time Frame allows you to limit the studies displayed according to specific periods of time.

To create a custom time frame:

1. Choose Custom from the Time Frame drop-down list.

2. Select the drop-down arrows to choose specific start and end dates.

3. Select OK.

ModaLiTY

Searches can be made on the patients who have had studies administered from a specific modality. Multiple modalities can be viewed at one time by selecting each desired modality.



paTienT id, LasT naMe, and accession #

These three filters all function in the same manner. If you enter the first few letters or numbers of the patient’s ID, the patient’s name, or the accession number, these filters will immediately locate and display the study you are seeking.

The Study Browser may be hidden to allow a full display of the Image Window. Once hidden, you can reactivate the Study Browser using any of the following methods:

1. Move the cursor to the right or left hand edge of the Image Window.

2. Click the Study Browser icon on the Image Window toolbar.

3. Press the Space Bar on the keyboard.

To resize a column:

1. Move the mouse cursor over the end divider of the column heading you want to resize. The cursor will change to a double-headed arrow.2. Select and drag the column boundary left or right until the column is the desired size.3. Double-click on a column heading divider to automatically size to fit the content.

To sort data in a column:

1. Click the column heading once with the mouse.

The information is instantly sorted alphabetically and/or numerically and in ascending order. Click the column heading again to reverse the sort order to descending.

To customize the toolbar (highlighted in yellow) right-click on the toolbar then select Customize.

1. Select the File, Worklist, Study etc… item you would like to add to your toolbar by clicking on the + sign next to the folder.

2. Add or Remove the item that you would like displayed on the toolbar.

3. Items that are currently displayed on the toolbar will be in the current toolbar items column.

4. Items on the toolbar can be arranged however you would like. Simply select Move Up/Move Down to change the order of items on the toolbar. If you have moved an entire folder (File, Worklist etc...) Move In/Move Out will place specific items that you have chosen into the folder. Place the item you would like in the folder directly above it then select Move In or Move Out.

Note: Separator will visually divide the items you have selected on the toolbar.

The Image Window is where you view the images associated with the patients you have selected. This window automatically opens whenever a study is opened.

To open a study:

1. Double-click on the study you want to view from the Study Browser.

2. Select a study from the Studies list, and click either the Open button or the Open + Old button.

On the far right of the Image Window toolbar there are several icon buttons and menu drop-down lists.




The Choose Image Layout button allows you to select the image layout for that series display window.

There are two Split Study buttons to split the Image Window into separate study windows, either horizontally or vertically. You may split each study window multiple times.

Menu opTions

The Menu drop-down shows all the options available under each menu.




TooLBaR LocaTions

Toolbars allow commonly used menu options to always remain in the foreground. Each of the four toolbars (Main Toolbar, Quick Reference Buttons, Default Level Win-dow Level Toolbar, and Default Annotation Toolbar) can be moved to the top, bottom or sides of the screen by grabbing the toolbar dots at the beginning of the toolbar with the mouse and changing their positioning by dragging it with the mouse.

These four toolbars can also be temporarily hidden from the viewing area by right-clicking anywhere on the button bar and selecting or deselecting the name of the toolbar.

The toolbar can be locked into position by selecting Lock Toolbars.

The remaining icon buttons on the Image Window toolbar provide the following functions.

This button closes the currently open series.

This button minimizes/maximizes the open series.

This button closes the open series.

This button will close NovaPACS.

You can use the Help menu to access basic instructions about the NovaPACS Viewer.

1. Select Help.

2. Select Instructions.

The Lite Viewer displays images in a JPEG 2000 format. The JPEG 2000 format allows images to come across quickly. You can view the Lite Viewer on a variety of operating systems with very few hardware requirements.

Users will be asked to enter their user name and password. The username andpassword will need to be assigned by the PACS administrator.

Once the user is signed in they will have access to the NovaPACS Lite Viewer. From the Study Browser users will be able to select the patient and exams that they would like to view.

Filter patient studies by Time Frame, Modality, Patient ID, Last Name, First Name, or, Accession #.

To view the Study or Series select View. The Study Browser is divided up into Studies and Series with the option of viewing just the series or the entire study.

Select Reports to view a patient report.
