Registration for Athens & Map of Medicine

It is essential that all persons wishing to use the Map of Medicine are registered for an Athens Account. This gives you access to not only the Map of Medicine but many other online applications including online hospital libraries and Clinical Knowledge Summaries.

Registration is a simple process through: https://register.athensams.net/nhs/nhseng/It is essential you enter Medway into Trust or Organization box to ensure you gain access to the localized network. You are still able to access other views but Medway will be your primary location. Athens will send you a confirmation email which will enable you to complete your registration. Athens offers: secure single sign-on access to multiple web-based services

Once you have completed your Athens Registration you will need to complete an initial registration for Map of Medicine. The web address for this:

http://medway.mapofmedicine.com

Shortcut CreationLaunch internet and type in the above Map of Medicine address, right click and create shortcut. This will enable quick access to Map of Medicine.

News and UpdatesTo view local updates and information on path creation click the date updated in the news section on the right hand side of the home screen.

Locate Pathways and Pages from the Home Page Search by Keywords (1)

Enter one or more medical or lay terms into the search box on the title bar. Click search or use the Enter key. View relevant results on the Map of Medicine tab

Search within results at top of the page, above the tabs

Filter results using drop down menu at top right-hand side of the Map of Medicine tab

Refine your search (search within results) at the bottom of the Map of Medicine tab

Select from similar words results at the bottom of the map of Medicine tab

Select a page number to transfer to the page

Browse by Area (2)

Select a broad area of medicine from the first column (Group Specialties), and open up a range of specialties

Select a Specialty , and open a range of patient journeys (Pathways)

Select a Pathway to reveal Pages, and

Select a Page to view

Search by Clinical Presentation (3)

Enter a symptom or a clinical presentation, and filter the list of Pages by partial or full terms

View Recent Pages (4) Revisit Pages youve already viewed, in this or previous Map sessions

Print and Save Pathways Select the Print page button to open a printable PDF version of a Page. This includes a visual image of the page, clinical evidence, references, attachments, local admin info, and your choice of with or without your personal notes

Navigation Tools on Pathways Reopen the Browse by Pathways tool Click to open. Click again to close, or click anywhere on the Page to close

Click anywhere in the first three columns to view more choices without being transferred away from your Page

Click in the fourth column to go to a new Page

View Localised Content and Information Nodes containing additional local administrative information are flagged with. Select the icon to open information directly. Quickly identify pathways and pages that have Localised clinical content by looking for in lists and search results.On pages whenever the Other views of this page button appears, it indicates there are alternate versions of the current page select the button to open the list

select a View to open another version (note: you will be switching views)

after viewing, reselect from the list to view additional versions, or return to your home View reselect the button to close the list

Switch tabs to view information drawn from the National Library for Health (NLH)

Select Guidance, Evidence or Specialist Libraries tabs

Sort results by categories within each tab, using the drop down menu at the right side of the NLH tab

Once you have accessed a Page, navigate through it and view information using icons and links Click to open the Quick Info Panel to view evidence-based clinical information, including images and attachments

Click on a node to view Local Administrative information

Click on a node to view or add personal Notes, alternatively click the information icon and click the notes tab Open a referral form by clicking

Interact with the Map through Feedback - The give feedback button to open a form at the top of an open Page to give and view clinical feedback

- There are two versions of this button, according to whether or not you have active feedback in your list. The number of items is indicated in brackets.

- The submit as feedback link in your saved Personal Note to submit it as feedback

- The product feedback link to comment on ease of use or other technologically related concern

Create Personal Notes

Open the Quick Info panel

Locate the Personal Notes tab and click

Enter a note of interest to yourself (no-one else but your log-in can see the notes)

Save

Note: Use your Personal Note as Feedback by clicking the link at the bottom of the Personal Notes panel. Move through the Map of Medicine

Reopening the Browse by Area tool, without losing your current Page, by clicking Reopening the Browse by Area tool by clicking on any section of the bread crumb trail Following a guided path through the care journey by selecting Page Link Nodes to transfer to oter Pages in the Map of Medicine Searching from box on the title bar of any Page

Searching the National Library for Health from the Quick Info Panel on any Node Evidence and Page Information

Open Date Parameters

The Due for Review date assigned to all Pathway Pages is clearly visible on the Status Bar and indicates when a review of the Pathway Page should take place, assuring up-to-date information

The Updated date shows when the Pathway was last changed; if this date is the same as the Locally Reviewed date, Locally Reviewed shows

The Last Reviewed date details when the Pathway Page was last checked for information integrity

Other dates are displayed as appropriate, for example, if a Page has been adapted within a local view

Accreditation Information is available via the View Provenance for this page link at the bottom of the page

Pages may carry one or more Accreditations from respected reviewing bodies. These relate to the editorial process and clinical content used to produce the pathway.

Certification

Pages are always certified by the Organisational Body that performed the evidence appraisal to create the Pathway

Evidence and References

The category of evidence assessed for a Node is clearly indicated

The list of references that are used is clearly stated and each specific reference is associated with the Node or Nodes it underscores The cumulative set of references for each Pathway can be both seen, for quick perusal and printed as part of the evidence certificate for detailed follow up
