Students of the Month

Congratulations to LT Ball Intermediate’s Students of the Month for January. Teachers nominated these students because they know how to be respectful, be responsible, and have integrity. This month’s award winners also got recognized for being helpful to others.

Exploring Career Options

The Tippecanoe High School Counseling Department attended the ACT State Organization Conference and presented a session on Informing Students and Parents about Career Options. They shared information on College and Career Night, the College Fair held during the day, advisory period, College and Career Month, and local partnerships they have formed.

Cincinnati Reds Caravan Stops at TMS

The Cincinnati Reds Caravan stopped at Tippecanoe Middle School to talk with students about leadership, perseverance, hard work, dedication, and dreams. It all started with an essay contest. Assistant principal Clay Lavercombe, a self-proclaimed Reds fanatic, submitted an original essay on why, based on his support of the team, the 2018 Reds Caravan should make a stop at the middle school. TMS is one of only four recipients in Ohio to earn this opportunity. Broadcasters Jeff Brantley and Jim Day, pitcher Amir Garret, minor leaguer Tyler Stephenson, general manager Dick Williams, mascot Rosie Red, and World Series champion Todd Benzinger were at TMS. The stopover included a 20 minute meet and greet, and a question and answer session with the entire student body.

It was truly a memorable night for LT Ball Intermediate students and their dancing partners. Moms and dads joined their sons and daughters for the annual Blizzard Blast, the culmination of a physical education unit on dancing. The 5th grade boys looked dapper in their suits, dress shirts, and ties while the 5th grade girls looked stunning in their fancy dresses. The smiles in these pictures say it all. Thank you physical education teacher Jeanne Koch for this annual tradition that brings families together for a fun-filled event with love and laughter.

Tippecanoe High School was one of more than 15,000 high schools to participate in The Great Kindness Challenge. “One Week. One Checklist. Infinite Happiness.” The Great Kindness Challenge is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible at school. Using a provided checklist of 50 kind acts, students accepted the challenge and showed each other that KINDNESS MATTERS! As a show of support for this effort, Board of Education member Theresa Dunaway, gave out gift cards to students who shared their random act of kindness and made a difference for another person.

Dance

Party

There were some fancy moves at Nevin Coppock Elementary’s afternoon dance party. The students earned the party as a reward in the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports program. Thank you to LT Ball Intermediate teachers Jeanne Koch and Sharon Pfister for leading the students in the Chicken Dance, Macarena, and Limbo. It was a “rewarding” and fun time!

The Ohio American Legion Buckeye Boys State program is an opportunity for high school boys to learn about the operation of the democratic form of government, organization of political parties, and relations of one to the other in shaping Ohio government. The hands-on experience is an eight day commitment and open to current juniors who are in good academic standing and possess qualities of leadership and good citizenship. This year’s program will be held at Miami University in Oxford from June 10-17, 2018. Applications are available in the high school counseling office and due by February 13th.
