Quick News April 21, 2011 No School Tomorrow, Friday April 22 nd Good Friday Change of Venue - The April Board of Education meeting will be in room 109 @ the High School on Monday, April 25 th @ 7:00 p.m. Tippecanoe Class of 2011 Valedictorians and Salutatorians Tippecanoe High School is proud to announce the valedictorians and salutatorians for 2011. The four valedictorians have tied for the highest class rank based on their grades. The two salutatorians have earned the second- highest class rank. Sharing valedictorian honors are Andrew Abboud, son of Dr. Fayez and Maria Abboud; Haylie Boehringer, daughter of Rick and Jacque Boehringer; Taylor Browning, daughter of Mark and Kim Browning and Melanie Chin, daughter of Art and Carol Chin. The salutatorians are Breanna Stucke, daughter of Mike and Melissa Stucke and Trisha Makley, daughter of Jeff and Elizabeth Makley. The Tippecanoe Educational Endowment Dinner Theatre took place on April 16

th at Tippecanoe High School Over 100 patrons

attended and enjoyed a fabulous evening full of entertainment The

evening included live music from student pianist Kristen Wolters

Megan Wolfe and Alex Daniel photo opportunities from student

photographers Morgan Beagle and Kaitlyn Folk chances to win

fabulous raffles enjoyment of a delicious dinner catered by Francorsquos

Ristorante Italiano and a scrumptious gourmet cupcake dessert by

Sweet by Kristy The Teacher of the Year was celebratedndash Frank

Goldsberry and everyone enjoyed a fabulous performance of ldquoHow to

Succeed in Business without Really Tryingrdquo The Tippecanoe

Educational Endowment wants to sincerely thank everyone that

supported this event 100 of all profits stay right here in Tipp Schools

and are used to provide Grants to our schools teachers and students

Alisha Bhagwat wins the Power of the Pen ldquoBest of

Roundrdquo

Congratulations to Alisha Bhagwat for winning the Power of the Pen ldquoBest of Roundrdquo

award at the Regional Tournament level Best of Round means that this writing was selected

as the top one for the seventh grade in the entire tournament for one round of three however

Alisha was chosen for two of three Alisha was announced at the tournament for one of the

Best of Round selections and the additional selection was made by the Power of the Pen

state director She read all of the top papers and decided to select Alisha as an additional

winner No others from any school were selected for an additional award Great job Alisha

Mason Madness Mason Royse a student at L T Ball has Muscular Dystrophy He and his

family have several fund raisers for the MDA every year Mason and his

family participate in the Labor Day telethon and donated the funds that

were raised for that year For the last several years Mason has made the

largest single family donation

One way Mason and his family generate money is collecting aluminum

pop cans and this year LT Ball kicked off ldquoMason Madnessrdquo a contest

between classes to see which could bring in the most cans The classes

collected 15420 cans (484 pounds) in 4 weeks $35800 dollars to give to

MDA

Thank You everyone who has brought in cans forrdquo Mason Madnessrdquo A

new contest started last week so please keep on collecting cans for

Mason and MDA

COSI ON WHEELS came to

Nevin Coppock

Thanks to the PTC Nevin Coppock students

experienced The Incredible Human Machine They

examined the importance of the nervous system

exploring how food fuels the human body and identified

that exercise keeps the body strong It was a fun

learning experience for all the students

Nevin Coppock Grandparentrsquos Lunch

This week was Grandparentrsquos week at Nevin Coppock Elementary Grandparents ate lunch with their grandchild

then was invited to the Book Fair It was a fun time for both the children and grandparents The High School Symphonic band played for the LT Ball students

Fourth graders at L T Ball will soon be thinking about being in the band Mr Parks brought over the Symphonic

band to demonstrate to the students what they can be a part of in High School

Broadway students to earn a limo ride

Broadway Elementary students sold Cookie Dough Each

student was given a sales goal to earn a trip to Golden Corral

in a Limousine Pictured are the students that were treated to

a VIP ride to lunch

Gay Harrod visits Broadway

Students listened intently as Gay Harrod grandmother of Amelia and

Eliza Zweizig (students at Broadway) explained and read her

childrenrsquos book Harrod has published two childrenrsquos books (The Jar

of Jam and Angel in Her Pocket) Her grandchildren have been used

as models for the watercolor illustrations in these books She read her

latest book and answered questions about the writing and publishing

process

Orchestra and You by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra

Volunteerrsquos from The

Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra visited

Broadway and Nevin Coppock Elementary

and presented ldquoOrchestra and Yourdquo

Students were given a virtual tour of the

backstage of the Schuster Center Every

section of the orchestra was presented and

students were given the opportunity to

ldquopretendrdquo they were playing each

instrument

Slots still open for the 2011 StageCrafters Summer Theatre Camp Itrsquos not too late to register for the 2011 StageCrafters Summer Theatre Camp There are

approximately 5 slots left for session one (June 13-25) and over 40 slots remaining for session

two (July 5-17) Registration is still done online at

Also if there any families who participated but may not be able to afford to send their child to

camp this year with the price increase please contact Jim Sagona for the scholarship

application Thanks to the generous support of the Tipp Foundation funds have been set aside

to help subsidize the camp registration costs for children with a financial need We donrsquot want

to stop any aspiring actoractress from having their time in the spotlight

Parents are encouraged to register for the second session at this point Given its current smaller size it will be a

great opportunity for some children who might otherwise not have the chance to get even bigger opportunities

games This would make a great family outing or group outing so please see a High School Baseball Player

The Broadway Elementary School Annual FUN Fair is Friday April 29th

from 5 to 9 pm

The PALS sponsored event will feature a Moonwalk 20-foot Titanic Slide Football Toss Hair Painting

Coke Toss Duck Pond and Cake Walk New this year is the Dunk Tank Broadwayrsquos principal Mr Gingerich

will take the plunge along with some other familiar faces

In addition to fun games and activities there will be 30 themed Basket Raffles Just like other years food will

be available Kitchen Meals will be pizza or a hot dog a drink and a choice of two sides for just $4 The

kitchen closes at 8 pm Want Carnival food it will be there cotton candy nachos and hot pretzels

Admission is FREE Most games and food items will be 1-2 tickets with tickets costing 50 cents each All

events will be indoors so plan on attending rain or shine

The Junior Class of Tippecanoe High School will be hosting the 2011 Junior-Senior Prom on Saturday

April 30th from 730pm ndash 1100pm at the Kettering Tower Lobby in Dayton Ohio This unique venue will be

transformed into an Athenian Escape making the students feel like theyrsquove entered into ancient Greece

Private parking is provided within the Kettering Tower parking garage (directions will be given at the time of

ticket purchase and are also available in the office) Tickets will be on sale in the office before and after

school for CTC students and in the cafeteria during lunch time for all other students

At least 10 PARENT CHAPERONES are required in order to hold the dance If you are interested in

chaperoning or if you have any questions feel free to contact Denise Moore (dmooretippcityk12ohus) or

Alcohol is the number one drug problem among youth As prom and graduation seasons near students and

parents can benefit by having the following information which is supported by the Ohio Department of

underage drinking but provides parents with research-based facts and information on the health and safety

counselors to discover the educational and career opportunities available at the US Military Service

Congressional District of Ohio to discuss and learn the requirements and procedures for seeking a nomination

to the academies The information night will be at the following time and location Thursday April 28 2011

from 600-730pm The Crystal Room 845 West Market Street Troy Ohio 45373

Representatives from the Naval Academy Military Academy Merchant Marine Academy Coast Guard and

Air Force Academy will be in attendance to answer questions during the night

Water Tower Construction - The city has started construction on the water tower and there are many trucks

utilizing Success Circle and the High School driveway The gate has been opened for the driveway between

the front and back parking lots The gate will remain open at least during school hours Drivers may want to

count on this gate access as an entrance to the back parking lot until further notice

The Tippecanoe Educational Endowment Dinner Theatre took place on April 16

th at Tippecanoe High School Over 100 patrons

attended and enjoyed a fabulous evening full of entertainment The

evening included live music from student pianist Kristen Wolters

Megan Wolfe and Alex Daniel photo opportunities from student

photographers Morgan Beagle and Kaitlyn Folk chances to win

fabulous raffles enjoyment of a delicious dinner catered by Francorsquos

Ristorante Italiano and a scrumptious gourmet cupcake dessert by

Sweet by Kristy The Teacher of the Year was celebratedndash Frank

Goldsberry and everyone enjoyed a fabulous performance of ldquoHow to

Succeed in Business without Really Tryingrdquo The Tippecanoe

Educational Endowment wants to sincerely thank everyone that

supported this event 100 of all profits stay right here in Tipp Schools

Alisha Bhagwat wins the Power of the Pen ldquoBest of

Roundrdquo

Congratulations to Alisha Bhagwat for winning the Power of the Pen ldquoBest of Roundrdquo

award at the Regional Tournament level Best of Round means that this writing was selected

as the top one for the seventh grade in the entire tournament for one round of three however

Alisha was chosen for two of three Alisha was announced at the tournament for one of the

Best of Round selections and the additional selection was made by the Power of the Pen

state director She read all of the top papers and decided to select Alisha as an additional

winner No others from any school were selected for an additional award Great job Alisha

Mason Madness Mason Royse a student at L T Ball has Muscular Dystrophy He and his

family have several fund raisers for the MDA every year Mason and his

family participate in the Labor Day telethon and donated the funds that

were raised for that year For the last several years Mason has made the

largest single family donation

One way Mason and his family generate money is collecting aluminum

pop cans and this year LT Ball kicked off ldquoMason Madnessrdquo a contest

between classes to see which could bring in the most cans The classes

collected 15420 cans (484 pounds) in 4 weeks $35800 dollars to give to

MDA

Thank You everyone who has brought in cans forrdquo Mason Madnessrdquo A

new contest started last week so please keep on collecting cans for

Mason and MDA

Thanks to the PTC Nevin Coppock students

experienced The Incredible Human Machine They

examined the importance of the nervous system

exploring how food fuels the human body and identified

that exercise keeps the body strong It was a fun

learning experience for all the students

This week was Grandparentrsquos week at Nevin Coppock Elementary Grandparents ate lunch with their grandchild

then was invited to the Book Fair It was a fun time for both the children and grandparents The High School Symphonic band played for the LT Ball students

Fourth graders at L T Ball will soon be thinking about being in the band Mr Parks brought over the Symphonic

band to demonstrate to the students what they can be a part of in High School

Broadway Elementary students sold Cookie Dough Each

student was given a sales goal to earn a trip to Golden Corral

in a Limousine Pictured are the students that were treated to

a VIP ride to lunch

Students listened intently as Gay Harrod grandmother of Amelia and

Eliza Zweizig (students at Broadway) explained and read her

childrenrsquos book Harrod has published two childrenrsquos books (The Jar

of Jam and Angel in Her Pocket) Her grandchildren have been used

as models for the watercolor illustrations in these books She read her

latest book and answered questions about the writing and publishing

process

Orchestra and You by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra

Volunteerrsquos from The

Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra visited

Broadway and Nevin Coppock Elementary

and presented ldquoOrchestra and Yourdquo

Students were given a virtual tour of the

backstage of the Schuster Center Every

section of the orchestra was presented and

students were given the opportunity to

ldquopretendrdquo they were playing each

instrument

Slots still open for the 2011 StageCrafters Summer Theatre Camp Itrsquos not too late to register for the 2011 StageCrafters Summer Theatre Camp There are

approximately 5 slots left for session one (June 13-25) and over 40 slots remaining for session

two (July 5-17) Registration is still done online at

Also if there any families who participated but may not be able to afford to send their child to

camp this year with the price increase please contact Jim Sagona for the scholarship

from 5 to 9 pm

The PALS sponsored event will feature a Moonwalk 20-foot Titanic Slide Football Toss Hair Painting

Coke Toss Duck Pond and Cake Walk New this year is the Dunk Tank Broadwayrsquos principal Mr Gingerich

will take the plunge along with some other familiar faces

In addition to fun games and activities there will be 30 themed Basket Raffles Just like other years food will

be available Kitchen Meals will be pizza or a hot dog a drink and a choice of two sides for just $4 The

kitchen closes at 8 pm Want Carnival food it will be there cotton candy nachos and hot pretzels

Admission is FREE Most games and food items will be 1-2 tickets with tickets costing 50 cents each All

events will be indoors so plan on attending rain or shine

The Junior Class of Tippecanoe High School will be hosting the 2011 Junior-Senior Prom on Saturday

April 30th from 730pm ndash 1100pm at the Kettering Tower Lobby in Dayton Ohio This unique venue will be

transformed into an Athenian Escape making the students feel like theyrsquove entered into ancient Greece

Private parking is provided within the Kettering Tower parking garage (directions will be given at the time of

ticket purchase and are also available in the office) Tickets will be on sale in the office before and after

school for CTC students and in the cafeteria during lunch time for all other students

Gay Harrod visits Broadway

Students listened intently as Gay Harrod grandmother of Amelia and

Eliza Zweizig (students at Broadway) explained and read her

childrenrsquos book Harrod has published two childrenrsquos books (The Jar

of Jam and Angel in Her Pocket) Her grandchildren have been used

as models for the watercolor illustrations in these books She read her

latest book and answered questions about the writing and publishing

process

Orchestra and You by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra

Volunteerrsquos from The

Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra visited

Broadway and Nevin Coppock Elementary

and presented ldquoOrchestra and Yourdquo

Students were given a virtual tour of the

backstage of the Schuster Center Every

section of the orchestra was presented and

students were given the opportunity to

ldquopretendrdquo they were playing each

instrument
