    1854)

    Plaza Miranda Bombing 1971. 49 million-worth renovation in 2000 after decadesof neglect as a result of Manila's urban decay.

    Monument was built to commemorate bombing victims.

    A plaque commemorating the Plaza Miranda bombing in 1971 is installed at thesouthwest corner. While on the southeast corner, fronting Quezon Boulevard, has a

    35-foot (11 m) high marble obelisk topped by a statue of a woman whose

    outstretched arms bear a torch, representing freedom; Plaridel Corner.

    The obelisk is flanked by two columns on each side which are topped with urns made from an alloy of

    cast iron and bronze, which also serve as gas-fired cauldrons which may be lit for special occasions.

    cabbage (Pistia stratiotes), which is

    named Quiapo or Kiapo in

    the Tagalog language.Referred to as the "Old Downtown

    of Manila", Quiapo is home to

    the Quiapo Church, where the feast

    of the Black Nazarene is held with

    millions of people attending

    annually.

    Quiapo has also made a name for

    itself as a place for marketplace

    bargain hunting.
