    Bautista was the Guestof Honor during theBookshower with atheme My Library: MyCommunity, My contri-bution, at the QCPL incelebration of the 71stfoundation Anniversaryof Quezon City. Thevisitors were peoplefrom the book publish-ing industry in the City.This project was con-ceptualized by the goodMayor and proposed to

    the City Librarian withthe objective of part-

    nering with the bookpublishers for possibledonation of books pub-lished to the City li-brary that will eventu-ally update and in-crease the librarysbook collections. Theaffair also had the op-

    portunity to acknowl-edge the outstandingbarangay captains whowere very supportiveto the branch libraries

    Mayor HerbertBautista startedhis fruitful ex-perience in gov-ernment serviceas President ofKabataang Baran-gay in 1995, bothin Quezon Cityand in the wholeMetro Manila. Hewas elected coun-cilor from 1992 to1995 and was the

    youngest electedVice Mayor in1995. He was alsoelected in variousgovernment, pub-lic service, pro-fessional andsocio economic ac-tivities. He is wasonce a Public Rela-tion Officer forNational CapitalRegion, League ofCities of the Phil-

    ippines. He is alsoa member, Boardof Governors,Philippine NationalRed Cross andpresently a Bri-

    gade Commander,1502nd Ready Re-serve Brigade,Phil. Army, ArmedForces of thePhilippines. He hasequipped himselfby furthering hisstudies, up toDoctor in PoliticalScience(InternationalStudies Develop-ment) at the Uni-versity of thePhilippines, Mas-ter of Arts inPublic Administra-tion and Govern-ance also at theUniversity of thePhilippines. Hewas an Out-standing Centen-nial BedanAwardee.

    In the May 2010elections, he waselected Mayor ofQuezon City, witha large number ofvotes. MayorBautista givesgreat support to

    the Quezon CityPublic Library andits 21 branchessince he was aCouncilor, to ViceMayor and todayas Mayor of Que-zon City. He hasprovided com-puters, air condi-tioning units andhas sponsored re-pairs to ourbranch librarybuildings for amore conducivelearning environ-ment, and sup-ported variousoutreach activi-ties of the li-brary.

    Last September 2010, ,The City Library intensi-

    fied its partnership withthe NGOs to help in dif-ferent concerns of the li-brary. A Memorandum of Agreement was signed inbetween the City Publiclibrary represented by itsCity Librarian, Ms. Eme-lita L. Villanueva and theLibrary Renewal partner-ship, through the initiative

    of our Vice Mayor JoyBelmonte. The Vicemayor introduced theCity Library to LRP to bethe beneficiary of one of their projects.: providebooks and computers totheir chosen one. TheQCPL was lucky enough

    to meet the requirementsof LRP, thus a donation of

    more or less 4,0000 vol-umes of reference bookswere given to our No-valiches Branch Library atNovaliches Proper. Four (4) computers were alsoturned over for the use of the students using theMulti Media and InternetSection of said Library.Members of the LRP are

    the Bato Balani Founda-tion, Inc.,, Adarna Publish-ing House, Synergeia,Bagong Kulturang Pinoyand the 7 degrees of Change.

    The Memorandum of Agreement for the bookdonations and computers

    between the City Govern-ment through City Mayor Herbert Bautista, repre-sented by the City Librarian,Mrs. Emelita Villanueva andthe LRP, witnessed by theVice Mayor was signed in asimple ceremonies at the QCPublic Library. The turnover ceremonies of the do-nated books and computerswas held at the NovalichesBranch Library and Informa-tion Center accepted by Ms.Villanueva, with Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, Councilor AlyMedalla, and the representa-tives from the LRP ConradoF. Baite, Citiseconline CEOand President, and Ms.Vanessa Estares, MarketingOfficer of the Adarna House.

    Library and its brancheslocated at your communi-ties offers wide variety of library services. It is aplace where you can read,learn, browse, connect, allfor free. You can readbooks from different disci-pline, for elementary, highschool, college and for theprofessionals. We also

    have encyclopedias, dic-tionaries, maps, globes,newspapers, magazines,

    journals, theses andpocketbooks. The greatthing is that we have our

    Multi Media Section

    where students can usethe computers for freeprovided they have thelibrary ID card. You canhave your e-mailschecked, open your facebook, search onlineencyclopedias, type your research, and print. Allin one Library.

    Our branch librariesoffer the same, exceptthat they have limitedbook collections, sincethey have limited space,and they can only acco-

    modate 10-20 students/users in one sitting.

    The good news is, theycan provide you also withunlimited research throughthe internet services. Our branch libraries are alsovenue of outreach serviceslike storytelling, puppetshows, film showing andother educational activities.You can search our website

    sity of Leicesterand in Universityin London, Shewas a consultantin Archeology andMuseulogy at wasa professor in

    Masters degreecourses on Mu-seum Studies andthe History of ar-cheological The-ory at the uUiver-sity of the Philip-pines in 1997.She also workedin Museum ofMankind in Lon-don, NationalCommission forCulture and theArts, Caritas Ma-nila and at SanI s i d r o H i g hSchool in Bukidnonas participant,Jesuit volunteer.

    The QCPL has proposed to the CityMayor Herbert Bautista various pro-

    jects for the year 2011. They are:

    1. Construction of four (4) districtlibrary buildings in areas as proposedby the City Planning as a result oftheir site inspection together withQCPL staff.

    Proposed site were:

    District I ;The old dilapidated building formerlyoccupied by the rotary club which isnow an abandoned building located atLa Loma near the Fire Station.

    District II: A site at Batasan nearthe Police Station and the BatasanElementary School.

    District III :To occupy the DefensorMulti Purpose Bldg. now vacated.

    In District IV, no site has been

    located, but the QCPL propose to de-velop either the Cubao Branch Libraryat the Lions Intl. Bldg. or the RoxasBranch Library.

    2. Proposed publication of a QuezonCity Book containing major accomplish-ments of different Mayors from 1939to present, History of the 142 QCBarangays, landmarks, signage andmonuments.

    3. Computerization of the Library IDSystem in preparation of the proposedbarcoding program.

    Recently, Councilor Julienne AlysonRae Medalla of the 2nd District, pro-posed an ordinance in support of theconstruction of district libraries in theCity. The good councilor is also a con-

    sistent supporter of the outreach ac-tivities of the City Library. Theres apartnership between Coun. Medalla andthe Library, through the City Librar-ian, Ms. Emelita L. Villanueva for theuse of her bookmobile in bringing thelibrary and books closer to the commu-nity.

    Coun. Medalla has also showed hersupport by proposing an ordinance thatwill require publishers in Quezon Citydonate copies of books published tothe Quezon City Public Library so as toincrease and update the librarys col-lections.The Bookmobile of Coun. Aly Medalla

    A one week Purpose Driven LifeSeminar was conducted at the

    Quezon City Public Library lastDecember 12-16, 2010. It wasa meaningful seminar thattaught the participants moralvalues, faith and love for Jesus.At the end of the week, De-cember 16, 2010, was thegraduation ceremony and theGuest Speaker was Mayor Her-

    bert Bautista. Invited speak-ers were Pastor Saturnino Bala- jadia and his group. Plaques ofappreciation for all the supportin this endeavor were given toMs. Rose Ann Belmonte andPastor Balajadia and his group.
