Questionnaire Analysis

In this task I created a questionnaire to help me make the best possible opening of my thriller movie. That’s why I thought why not ask peers their opinion

of what they expect from a thriller opening or any movie opening. My aim of this questionnaire was to meet the aims of most viewers because if it did not

meet their needs, the movie would not be a successes. My intentions of this questioner was to give the customers what they expect however with a twist as thriller’s are known for their suspense

and misleading story lines.

2) How old are you?

My first two questions were the basic questions that every questionnaire asks, such as; Age and Gender.

From my questioner we can see that the majority of the people I asked were mostly Male and in-between the age of 15-18.

This can effect my results and what the expectations of a thriller opening is as males have different views to women and 15/18 year olds have different expectations to someone older.

4) Do you enjoy watching thriller movies?

My third and fourth question are quite similar as they both ask similar things. My third question asks ‘how often do you watch movies’ and from my results we can see that 15 people I asked watch movies about once a week , this links back to my coursework as it tells me how often people actually take the time out to watch movies, therefore my movie will be watched by someone at least one in a week.

This question then leads onto my fourth question where I have asked more specifically ‘’ do you enjoy watching thriller movies’’ ; as shown above we can see that 21 people enjoy watching thriller movies. This impacts my movie opening preparation as it gives me a figure on how many people enjoy watching thriller movies and if they would enjoy watching mine when it comes out.

My fifth question is an open ended question, which means in this question I have asked people on their opinions and what they think; This is also known as a Qualitative Question.

‘’ what is your favourite thriller movie?’’‘’my favourite thriller movie is Lucy’’

‘’My favourite thriller movie is the girl with the dragon tattoo’

’ ‘’my favourite thriller movie is Side

effects’’ Above are just the few answers which came up frequently when I asked peers my question. From these answers I was able to see a link; this link consisted of the same sub-genre coming up which in this case is ‘’Psychological’’. From these results we can see that my peers favourite thriller movies are mostly psychological based, this has helped me come to my decision on what type of sub-genre I should use in my thriller opening, as this is the most popular sub genre which people are into.

Therefore it came it helped me come to my decision of basing my thriller opening on a psychological based genre.

7) What setting would you want a thriller movie to be set in?

My 6th and 7th question have a link between them as depending on what thriller director my peers choose will resolve on what setting they expect a thriller genre to be based in.

From my results we can see that 21 people prefer Christopher Nolan, who is known for the famous ‘Batman Trilogy’ and in my 7th question we can see that 15 people prefer the setting of a thriller movie to be based in an Abandoned Apartment.

This shows the similarities in what people expect as the batman trilogy is half based in an abandoned location where the joker and batman meet.

This has helped me come to my decision of using Christopher Nolan as my inspiration and basing my thriller opening in an abandoned apartment.

8) Would you rather a female or male to be a victim in a thriller movie or both?

This question links back to my very first question of ‘what gender are you’, as the more males they answered that the women should be the victim of a thriller movie, and the majority of the females I asked said they would want the males to be the victim in the thriller movie.

However from above we can see that 16 of the people I asked that females would be the better victim as they add more of an effect to the movie, more then males do. Therefore this has helped me come to my decision of getting a female based character to play the victim in my thriller movie opening.

9) Dose the music in the thriller movies add more of a scary effect when watching the

movie?

My second to last question is about the technological symbols used within a thriller movie. However in this particular question I am asked if the sound effects such as the music in the background adds a scary effect or not.

From my data we can see that 16 people that I have asked said they don’t notice the music in the background however 15 of the people that I have asked have said yes it does have more of an effect. This is a close call between the two results, which has helped me to come decision that in my thriller opening I will be having some sort of music in the background to add that scary effect however I will make it a little stronger than other movies to make the viewers notice it.

Page 8: Questioner analysis

My last question was an open-ended question which was more of an opinion based question. I asked my peers ‘ ’ How would you define thriller’’ from all the answers I got, a few turned up more than once.

‘’I would define thriller as a jumpy and suspense building genre’’ ’I would describe thriller as suspense building and leaving us at the end of our seats’’

‘’Thriller is what leaves you at the end of your seat thinking .. What will happen next?;’

From these answers it has helped me come to an understanding of what I should make my thriller opening to be like, for example the peers I asked are expecting to at the edge of the seat waiting for something big to happen, therefore I would have to build the suspense slowly and unexpectedly.

This question links back to my coursework as my whole project is based around the genre Thriller, therefor I chose to ask this question as many people interpret the genre in unlike and have different expectations of it. With these different opinions it will help me understand the different views and opinions certain people have on thriller and if my movie meets their needs and expectations.
