TRAILER

Page 5: Question two

We created our trailer following key conventions of the horror genre to make sure it appealed to our

target the correct audience. I also did this by creating two ancillary products as a promotional package to help sell the film. These included a Magazine Cover

and Poster. Both of these tied together with the theme of the film to reflect it appropriately. I did this by creating a house style which created a parallel link

to each product to one another

IMAGES• All of the images used in my three products link together to form this brand identity. • The images used all have very low key lighting to cast shadows and make the images

dark. This is consistent throughout both the trailer and ancillary products to emphasise the fear factor.

• The images are all very similar using a similar style to one another. The image features the victim who is a teenage female who has been trapped and isolated from society with tape across her mouth to keep her quiet. This image is a powerful image which provokes sympathy with this character hence why I used it as the face for our film as just looking at the images we do not know the story as to how she ended up like this making the audience want to watch the film to discover this information.

• The use of this image links both the Magazine Cover, Poster and Trailer together as they all feature this style of image and this scene linking all products together promoting the film.

FONT

• In the three products I created the fonts all vary to keep the audiences attention as using one font becomes boring after using it for a while and you risk loosing the audiences attention.

• However the range of fonts also had to be conventional to the genre and help reflect the brand identity of the film fitting in with the horror genre.

• On the Poster for SNAPPED I used a very ghostly font which stood out from the darkened background as it was in bold white which I used throughout the whole project as firstly it was conventional to the horror genre to use a mix of black red and white to represent life, death and the red suggesting blood. Secondly I think the white is clear to read and links the products together well following a house style in turn fitting the brand identity for SNAPPED.

• On the Magazine Cover advertising SNAPPED I again used a variety of fonts to make each individual section of text stand out again using the Black, Red and White to link the products together.

MISE-EN-SCENEMise-ene-scene plays a massive role in ensuring that the products link together as if the mise-en-scene was not the same in each product they would not be consistent and would not be effective in selling the film. We used a range of props to help us in achieving this such as the gaffa tape which is the most frequent prop used in the images used along with the costume of the victim which is the same in the Promotional Products as to that in the trailer. We also used other props such as the car to show the antagonist watching the victim. The candle works as giving off a very small amount of artificial light amongst the darkness helping to keep the antagonists identity hidden working alongside the costume of the black hooded coat to hide this character appearance.

COLOUR

The colours used to create SNAPPEDS brand identity consist of three simple and conventional colours. These being Black, Red and White as they all contrast well together with black commonly being the background colours as it connotes shadows and mystery along with hiding the identity of characters in its depth. The red and white act as lighter colours to stand out amongst the black. Red represents danger and connotes the idea of blood which in turn represents the downfall and disequilibrium seen in the film linking the promotional products to the trailer.
