In this presentation I will include a personal selection of what I consider most important with regards to the German legacy.

There are certain stereotypes associated with Germans around the world...

Germans drink beer, wear Lederhosen and eat Pretzels every day

Germans on holiday

Germans don’t have a sense of humor and are always serious

Germans are very bureaucratic and have rules for everything

However, the German culture is very rich and diverse.

Personal selection of most important contributions to the German culture:

• German Literature• Classical Music• Inventions• Architecture• Landmarks• Automotive Industry • Beer

German LiteratureGermany is known as The Land of the Poets and Thinkers.

Two of the most famous writers of German literature were

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832) and Friedrich Schiller (1759 – 1805)

Faust is Goethe’s masterpiece and is considered one of the greatest works of German Literature

Notable works of Schiller include Maria Stuart, Don Carlos and Die Räuber

Classical MusicGerman classical music is one of the most known and played music in the world.

Automotive IndustryIt is the biggest industry and one of the largest employers in Germany.German cars are known worldwide for comfort, effectiveness, style, security and social status.

BeerThe popularity of the German beer is the result of the strict production process supported by the Rheinheitsgebot (purity law). There are approximately 1,300 breweries in Germany producing over 5,000 different brands of beer.
