Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Masthead• My masthead is one of the

features I have used to attract my audience as it should be the first thing that you see when you pick up a copy of AMPED!

• The masthead is a different

font to what is featured throughout the rest of the magazine and is significantly larger font than what is used on the rest of the front cover. The font is fun and interesting as it has a stand out rock star look to it making it very attracting to the eye especially combined with the red colour which makes it stand out on the light background.

Colour scheme • The colour scheme that I used was based

on contrasting colours that i knew would stand out from each other. For instance the use of white on black and using yellow on top of blue.

• I decided to put things that I wanted to readers eyes to be attracted to fist in either red or yellow. As red was the main colour of my magazines logo it was important that I made sure other things that I wanted to be noticed I put in the same colour as to stick with a consistent theme. In contrast to this it could of become to over crowded with one colour, that’s why I chose to use yellow as I found out in my colour testing that it’s a vibrant colour that stands out on dark backgrounds.

• Having the band name stand out was very important as the readers of the magazine would be familiar with the band ‘ Foreign Ground’ so when their eye was attracted to it it would make them want to read on about the band and why they feature in the magazine.

Photos

• The photo I used was meant to be very aggressive. This was intentional as I wanted it to stand out on the cover and for the reader to ask questions of why the aggressive male was on the front and if they didn’t already know, who he was.

• The other questions in the double page spread I wanted to be very causal as they were pictures of the band jamming. They return back to where it started for them in their secondary school. I wanted to attract the readers attention in this and show that it wasn’t long ago that the band were at school leaving them with the impression that they as a young audience could see what people there age had achieved. The photos are ina grey scale ot make them have a vintage feel and to give them a slight age to them so that the spread wasn’t to young and could appeal to the twenty year plus part fo my age bracket.

Addressing my audience • When considering how to address my audience I knew it was

important to be able to relate to the age range that I was going for.

• In the interview with my band Foreign ground I made it so that I would mention festivals and tours that they would be able to attend and presented the relevant information where they would be able to go online and download music of the band. The writing style I used was a question and answer style as its not a particularly popular feature of today's youth to want to read pages and pages of text.

The photographs I took have a quality to them that enables them to address the audience as they were taken of teenagers aged 17, 18 and 19 and were taken in my secondary school. This gave them an edge to them that made them relate to the younger audience.
