WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MUSIC MAGAZINE AND WHY?QUESTION 3

WHAT COMPANY DO I THINK FITS MY MAGAZINE MOST?

Future PLC is a large publishing company, who have a large presence in the magazine industry. Founded in 1985,they now have the ability to print in the UK, US and Australia. They also have apps, websites and events. This means my magazine will reach a wider audience, aswell as allow them the opportunity to read my magazine physically- or through apps on the iPhone. This shows that Future PLC is developing with new media technology, which resultantly means they make as much profit as possible, through all forms of media. They are effective with their digital subscriptions, as they currently have 16 million digital subscribers. Their ability to hold evens (such as Metal Hammer's Golden Gods) brings added publicity/advertising.

HOW WHAT THIS BENEFIT MY MAGAZINE? (1)

Future PLC have published some very successful music magazines. For example; Total Guitar, Metal Hammer, Classic Rock, and Rhythm. These are magazines aimed at a mature audience; therefore, they would be good to work with, as they know who their target audience is. I have a similar target audience, but my readers may be slightly younger, so they have a chance to appeal to a wider group of people if they choose to publish my magazine.

Following on from this, they recently sold Metal Hammer and Classic Rock for £10.2m (in 2013) . This means all their current music magazines are for instrumentalists- not dedicated to music news. Resultantly, they currently have a gap in the market for music news , and my magazine would perfectly fill that gap.

They also have a good reputation which will benefit a new magazine, as current Future PLC customers may be more inclined to purchase it. As well as this, they may be able to run promotions/advertisment in their other magazines- which is a good way to advertise my magazine and benefits all companies involved. Their magazines are distributed in supermarkets (Sainsburys etc), as well as stores such as WH Smith. This will help my magazine as it will be easily accessible to my target audience, because these stores are in most towns nationwide. Their website (www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk) makes it easy for customers to subscribe to a magazine, which will result in a dedicated customer base for my magazine- meaning I'll have good sales throughout the year. Also, they often work in partnership with record labels to release limited CDs etc with their magazine. As my target audience are passionate music fans, this may interest them, and make my magazine seem more appealing.

HOW WHAT THIS BENEFIT MY MAGAZINE? (2)

My magazine will be mainstream; therefore, it will appeal to Future PLC, as mainstream is more likely to do well financially.

Aswell as advertising through current Future PLC publishings, I would like to advertise through social media. These include; Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, Tumblr, and many more. I would like to do this as the majority of social media users are in the 16-19 age range (my target audience), meaning that they are more likely to view my advertisement. This may result in more sales.
