Using Storylines

In Nangreave Road there is a fight shown. In Coronation Street there is also a fight shown. By me doing this research, I found out that the audience ratings are up when there is a fight. This helps me to have some of the same soap conventions as Coronation Street.

A common situation in many soaps is drug taking/dealing. I have decided to use drug dealing in my own soap trailer because I know that the audience watches those types of storylines.

Targeting The Audience

•I have decided to use quite a deep song in my soap trailer. I chose the song Mt Eden Dubstep –by The Prodigy.

Omen was in the charts in 2009 and became very successful. Young people still listen to it today. The Prodigy is a well known band who have sold many singles and albums to this day.

To make my soap trailer successful I made sure that the characters in the trailer were wearing non branded clothes. I didn’t want it to be too mainstream such as shops like Hollister.

Teenagers and young adults should be entertained by the storylines in the trailer.

Shows should be shown on popular channels such as E4. They have the right amount of audience ratings.

The storylines should relate to what my target audience wants.

My target audience want easy to listen to subjects which they can easily involve themselves in.

My target audience like to go on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter so they would like them to be involved.

My target audience want to be able to see themselves in my soap trailer.

My target audience want a catchy theme tune/song on the trailer.

Audience Feedback

I wanted my soap to be shown on E4 like The Inbetweeners. Although its based on Waterloo Road, I didn’t think that the BBC had the right audience that E4 has.

According to my research, E4 is based on the age range of 18/19 year olds. I chose my characters well so that they look older.

I chose my friends who are 17/18 to act in my soap trailer because I wanted the audience to be around the same age and so they could relate with them. I thought that I chose well.

Audience Feedback

I received some very positive comments from my peers in my class who I asked for feedback off. They really liked my soap trailer and products. But, I also received some comments on how I could change my soap trailer if I would choose to:

NEGATIVE FEEDBACK“The camera was quite shaky on the last scene where the boy is smoking”.

“The fight could have been more realistic”.“I would personally have started the music right from the start”.

I have improved some of the negative feedback but not all of it. I think that the music starts at the right time. I personally think that it sounds better than if it started at the beginning. It is very clear in what the girl is saying rather to there being music over the top.
