Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups? Have you represented your target audience within the film opening? My target audience is males aged 16-25. I have included actors/characters of a similar age to create a representation of film. It is an appropriate representation I feel as costumes are not “glamorous” trends. They simply wear casual costumes that the normal society would wear. Thi the audience relate to the character. The character may appear to be displaying evil acts within the film opening, so that which we wish the audience to try and relate to, it is a common assumption everyone wishes to have some form of supernatural powers. This is due to the pop media content currently being presented to our generation with superheroes etc. main focus of stories. The character then in conclusion does conform to both sci-fi genre conventions, offers a fair representation of the male 16-25 year old. This in my opinion make opening more successful and similar to real life productions.

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Have you represented your target audience within the film opening?

My target audience is males aged 16-25. I have included actors/characters of a similar age to create a representation of them in this film. It is an appropriate representation I feel as costumes are not “glamorous” or designertrends. They simply wear casual costumes that the normal society would wear. This helps the audience relate to the character. The character may appear to be displaying evil acts within the film opening, so it is not that which we wish the audience to try and relate to, it is a common assumption that everyone wishes to have some form of supernatural powers. This is due to the popular media content currently being presented to our generation with superheroes etc. being the main focus of stories. The character then in conclusion does conform to both sci-fi genre conventions, but it also offers a fair representation of the male 16-25 year old. This in my opinion makes my film opening more successful and similar to real life productions.

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

How can the audience relate to the character?

As I previously mentioned, the clothing being nothing extravagant and more towards the realistic side of the film. This is the key component to making a quality film that is set during the present time period , as the more you comply with realistic conventions, obviously the more realistic a film is going to appear.

The base of the film is on some supernatural force, now obviously the main character is the “villain” in the film opening, however it still produces the same effect a hero would. people wish they could have super powers (a common assumption) but obviouslynot for the same purposes as the villain in this film opening.

This whole idea of having abnormal abilities has massively increased in popularity inrecent years due to such films as ‘Thor’, ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Chronicle’. These films vary in content but all base around the abnormal ability. I have simply adapted it to fit around the science fiction genre.

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Does your film accurately conform to the representation of your target audience?

I feel that my film does conform to target audience stereotyping because the actors (which are similar in age) already are that target audience, their actions therefore do notneed to be ‘fake’ or staged because they just need to represent themselves.

Of course there are individual differences and the stereotype is a very generalised commonAssumption, however I believe that my film coincides with it, whilst also breaking it slightly in order to interest the audience more.

Target audiences could relate to the character in terms of dress code, however the specific Actions of the character is what defines reality and fiction.

In terms of representing my target audience/particular social group, I feel I have beenoverall successful.
