Question 2How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and

evaluation stages? How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

=Using synergy my team and I have managed to promote our main product with ancillary text as a campaign. It’s a part of a marketing strategy.

ImageThe poster image and magazine main image are both similar. The poster shows the back of our main character and the main image on the magazine shows the main character behind some folders. The images are similar in a way that the main character’s identity is always hidden. The audience can put the two images together and recognise the relation or theme of the film. The marketing of short films is different from feature films simply because our production team is new to the industry, we don’t have a big audience and with no budget we cannot afford to advert our main product on a billboard, however our poster and magazine can be viewed from the school website or magazine. This is will be available for all teachers, students, parents, potential new students and their parents and external audiences. As mentioned before our poster will be most unlikely to be presented on a billboard but perhaps around the school or the borough’s official website. Although we had no budget, we had access to promote our main product and ancillary text on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Multi-platform Marketing allowed us to perform variety of trailers on YouTube which meant we gathered a range of different audience and vast numbers of viewers across the Globe, viewers from Italy and the UK.

DesignSome members of our team are the editors of the print; poster and magazine which meant we had control over them and this makes it more believable for the audience. Although, our team had full control over the ancillary text, this could only mean two things. The team will either be viewed negatively or positively. Some audience could be overly critical and find our work too basic or their judgement could be lenient and find the team as hardworking. The designs on both poster and magazine are roughly similar, plain and uniform, like the image simply because we were inspired by our main product. We found this also works as a promotion. We found using dull and cold colours like; blue, grey and whites throughout our film helped to present our take on the film. We also found we were inspired by Little White Lies to use basic, yet sophisticated fonts to look neat and to the point like; Arial, Dotum and many more. In our drafts we used shapes like leaves and footstep to present freedom, nature and independence.

This was the original layout we designed for our magazine and we successfully followed this layout.

LanguageFor obvious reasons, like most film posters and magazine articles always hint something about the main product “Eat, work and sleep, eat, work and sleep, eat, work and sleep… You get the idea?”. In the magazine article, the editor manages to talk about the film in depth without revealing too much. However, the poster doesn’t contain as much text as the magazine. Like other posters, it contains the important details like; title, director and actor, Film Company and production, hashtags and website. The audience can find obvious conventional details on our social media platforms and they can view backstage footage and images too. The language style definitely gives away the theme and what the audiences are expected to see. This promotes the film as some audience may be interested in this style or some may not be. As mentioned before our team were influenced and inspired by Little White Lies and the language they used. As an independent magazine we liked the quirky yet fun style they adapted to and this is what we tried to recreate.
