Evaluation Q2

HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT

REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL

GROUPS?

I wanted my music magazine to be targeted at a youthful audience of both genders aged between 16 to 21 as this is the age that people have the most disposable income and would purchase a product such as the one I created. As Kerrang! is aimed at the younger end of that range, and Q at the older, I wanted to fi nd a balance between the sophistication of Q with edgy aspects from Kerrang! so that my magazine could appeal to all ages.

From my target feedback questionnaire I was able to see that the genre that most people wanted to read about was pop/rock so I wanted to focus on this in my magazine. This questionnaire also told me that the majority of my audience would be females.

With this in mind, I analysed similar magazines to get an idea of how they represent social groups.

REPRESENTING SOCIAL GROUPS

As most of my audience are females, this has definitely influenced my design with the use of females in the images. I have also chosen a dark plum colour for my house style which lends itself to be more feminine.

REPRESENTING SOCIAL GROUPS

As the majority of my audience are between 18-21, when looking at the demographic table for the UK, the majority of people in my target audience would be from the groups B, C1 and C2 which are middle class, lower middle class and skilled working class respectively.

REPRESENTING SOCIAL GROUPS

The images that I have taken of my main artist represent a social group; her various outfi ts, makeup, facial expressions and electric guitar all help convey an artist in the genre and therefore attract teenagers and young adults with similar interests.
