How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

• I have created synergy across my three productsthe use of colour scheme, design and othercommon themes such as, images and typography.

• Throughout all three products the name of thefilm being promoted “EL1M1NAT1ON” is in anupper case roman type of font and red incolour, this ensures that audiences are able torecognise the film being promoted straight away.

Additionally, there is a dark feel to each of the threepromotional products, the background of the poster, is amisty/ cloudy black, which is representative of a darkcloud over the main character, likewise, the backgroundof my magazine front cover is also black with a spot lightdirected on the main image which is of the maincharacter (Rachel).

There is typography throughout the trailer and this is on ablack background along with the ending “one by one”“ELIMINATION” the dark colours connote mystery.

• I feel as though my main product and ancillary texts aresuccessful in their purpose of selling/ promoting thefilm “Elimination” because, from my audiencefeedback I found that, the vast majority of theparticipating audience understood the plot of the film(94%) and could easily identify the genre it belongedto, moreover, the majority also said they would watchthe full film after viewing the trailer (78%), and thatessentially is the goal of the trailer, to promote the filmwell enough that those who watch are willing to spendmoney to watch or purchase the film.

• Furthermore, my poster is eye-catching butsimple enough to be inviting and easy tofollow, it doesn’t overload its audience. Thename of a well-known actress who stars in thefilm is on the top and her picture is in themiddle of the page making it one of the firstthings to be seen other than the name.

Often, even if a person is not interested in the film itself, they will watch itbecause it is associated with a well-known actor/actress. And so this becomesa selling point, this is why I chose to make it clear that “Kyra James” is in thefilm.

• Lastly, the comments and reviews make theposter even more effective in its role ofpromoting the film since; it boosts consumerconfidence in the product as people they canrelate to, who had no part in creating the film, have enjoyed the film and have positive thingsto say.

Magazine

• The main image of the magazine plays a big role insuccess of promotion of Elimination; this can be linkedto Laura Mulvey’s theory of the male gaze, whichargues that the dominant point of view is masculine.

• Since the main character is female, I have used amedium long shot of the actress dressedglamorously, in a pose that shows a fun side to her. Thisshould help sell the magazine and the film to males asthe cover looks very inviting and has been objectified.

• Additionally females, enjoy seeing images of femalestars looking glamorous as they often aspire to be likethem.
