We want YOUR help
developing a
Queens Mobile App
The Need
There are BIG things going on in Queens. Look what is in store for 2013-2014:
• 07/13: MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field
• 09/13: US Open Tennis in Queens
• 02/14: SuperBowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey
• And other exciting events throughout the year
The Need
These events alone will draw tens of thousands of additional tourists to our area. They will be flying into NYC through Queens airports. • KEY POINT - Our goal is to give them MORE OPTIONS
stay at Queens hotels, dine at Queens restaurants, and ultimately draw additional tourists to our borough’s businesses, capitalizing on the events and showing tourists all that Queens has to offer.
The App
The Queens Chamber supports our localbusinesses, such as restaurants, hotels, & cultural establishments.
We received a NYS Grant to develop a mobile app to show tourists where to stay, where to eat, & what to do in the borough of Queens
The App
Our Strategy:• Location-based tourism app with a comprehensive
database of Queens locations
– Specifically: Restaurants, Hotels, and Culturals(museums, parks, & notable destinations)
• Help to brand & market our borough as a tourism destination
• Drive tourism dollars to our local businesses
• Build the app with a creative, sexy, and intuitive UI and design that helps to separate it from existing services (Google Places, Yelp, Urbanspoon, Foursquare, etc.)
The App
Getting Technical:• Utilize an existing API (Google Places or Foursquare preferred)
to help build restaurants database
• Both Andriod and iOS platforms for smartphones (tablet
not necessary)
• Easy-to-use web-based CMS system with which we can manually update/edit database
– Fields will include description, location, contact information, and potentially more
• Most importantly: Think outside the box be creative !
The Challenge
Show Us Something Great:• You have until End of Day 3/7/13 to send us a
proposal
– Must include: • Mock-Ups
• Projected Development Timeline (starting at the spec, planning stage, and ending with launch)
• Full Outline of User Experience
• Thorough Exploration of Creative Elements
• Brief portfolio/outline of past works
The Challenge
Judging Criteria:
