The couple contracted measles after paying a state visit to King George IV in London and consequently died. They had no children.Queen Kalama: The daughter of royalty, Queen Kalama married Kauikeaouli Kamehameha III, who introduced the division and disbursement of traditional lands known as the “Great Mahele.” Queen Kalama strongly supported the first public school system.

Listen, learn and enjoy what Queens’ MarketPlace has to offer. Aside from checking out diverse shops, restaurants and a food court, you’ll also find cultural entertainment. Experience Hawaiian culture through music and dance, and watch a free movie under the stars at the Coronation Pavilion. Discover how the ancient Hawaiian people communicated through hula with its accompanying mele or chants. Throughout the week, watch and listen to the expressive interpretations of Hawaii’s

rich hula history with Aulani’s Hula Halau (hula troupe), Kukui Malamalama O Kona and Halau O Po‘ohala. Then delight in the traditional harmonies of the Kupuka‘a ohana (family) as they perform a variety of Hawaiian melodies. You’ll also appreciate the best of both worlds as the hula halau, Na Lehua E Liko No Kawailani, illustrates the grace of hula and Hawaiian music. And whether you’re feeling inspired or if you’ve always longed to learn the hula, stop by for a lesson with our loving kupuna. You can also learn about the history of the playful ukulele and even try your hand at it with a quick lesson. Learn to make an ipu, a hula percussion instrument, made from a gourd. The Hawaiian Quilt Collection also offers quilt-making lessons on Sundays for a small fee. After you’ve experienced these fun and educational cultural offerings, you’re invited to bring a beach chair or mat, and enjoy a free weekly movie on the lush lawn surrounding the Coronation Pavilion as dusk settles in. You’ll never tire of things to do at Queens’ MarketPlace!

Hawaiian Culture & Entertainment

Lively music, song and stories fill Waikoloa Beach Resort with the

eclectic energies of Hawaii. In the Coronation Pavilion, hear an ukulele

class being conducted. Onstage, see the graceful hula, hear the sounds

of a slack key guitar or the deep resonance of ancient chants with

voices of aloha.
