Today, we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. It emphasizes the importance our faith plays in our lives. It also highlights the people who inspire and impact our faith by their teaching and example. At our 9:30AM Mass this weekend, we commission our teachers and catechists of our school and our Saturday School of Religion Program to challenge our students to be ac-

tive in their faith. Our theme for both school and Saturday School is to GO and live the Gospel message. I ask you to pray for our teachers and catechists who share their faith stories and encourage our students to be witnesses of Gospel message in their lives. By their support and example, they help to guide our students in making the right choices concerning faith and morality.

We welcome Oswald Avile, a Seminarian who is in first theology at Mundelein studying to be a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Oswald has been our adopted Seminarian for the last 3 years. The parish has been praying for his vocation. This weekend he will share his journey towards becoming a priest. The second collection today is for the Archdiocesan Seminary System. It provides the opportunities for young men to discern their vocation. Your contribution and support help to assist the students in their formation and academic studies. Fr. Kevin and I both benefitted from your support. I ask that you be generous in this collection. It is truly appreciated.

On Tuesday, September 29, our school and parish will offer a Mass of Thanksgiving for all active and retired police, fire, par-amedics and first responders. It is the feast of St. Michael. We want to recognize and honor their bravery and dedication to our city and community. (See the insert in today’s bulletin.)

A reminder that next weekend is our parish fest. Parking next Sunday will be limited. If you haven’t purchased your raffle ticket, I ask you to buy one and help us to reach our goal. This is our Parish Fundraiser. Your support and presence is im-portant. The monies collected help subsidize the school. The 11:30AM Mass next week will be celebrated in the St. Joseph’s parking lot (weather permitting). There is no 4:00PM Mass on Sunday the 27th. Looking forward to seeing you at the Fest. Pray for good weather!

Have a good week.

God Bless,

Sandwich Schedule for Adult Members at 9:00 A.M. in the Convent on the following Wednesdays:

2015 September 23 October 7 & 21

Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy

There are two reasons why an adorer must be present when Our Blessed Lord is exposed in the Monstrance: 1. To Adore Him! Jesus tells us to “Watch and pray.” (Mt 26:41) 2. To stand guard and protect Jesus. He suffered and died to save us. He has given us the opportunity to stand guard and be a Soldier for Him. Can you stand guard one hour a week? Sign up at the Adoration Chapel or for more information call Marion at (708) 424-8433.

*Special Notice* The Adoration Chapel will close Sunday, September 20th at 9pm and reopen Monday, September 28th at 9am for the set-up and the celebration of Martyrsfest.

On Monday, September 14th, Envelope No. 0765 was drawn. There was NO winner. The total amount of the prize pot was $2,175.00. To be eligible for the raffle, you must use two separate envelopes for the current week. In your regular weekly envelope, your contribution must be at least $5.00; and you must use the corresponding week’s 50/50 envelope with a $5.00 contribution in that envelope. To be included in the weekly 50/50 drawing, envelopes must be in the rectory office by 8:30 A.M. on the Monday morning immediately after the weekend.

Good luck next week!

In today’s gospel, Jesus pretty much tells his disciples that their greatness will come only from service and humility. What service can you do this week that will make Jesus happy?

“I learned this week that even the li le jobs are important to the big picture and that working together is more produc ve than trying to do things on your own. I’ll always remember ge ng lost while

hiking to the waterfall, trying to pull a nail that lost its head out of the ground for 30 minutes with Jen, and the breathtaking sight of the mountains wherever you looked. From the jaw-dropping sights around us to the rela onships built with fellow teens, God’s presence has surrounded us and helped my faith grow this week in Harlan.” –Amy

IT’S COMING!!!IT’S COMING!!!

The kids are back in school (finally!), Martyrfest is right around the corner, and a cool wind is reminding us that summer is coming to an end – and we all know what’s coming! The cold blast of winter winds will not be far behind. I’m sure you’ve already dug into some cool weather clothing recently and maybe donated a coat or two to the weekend sale at the St. Vincent thrift store (thank you). As you’re putting summer clothes away and getting ready for the colder weather, please set aside those items that you and the kids may have “outgrown” since last year. St. Vincent DePaul will be sponsoring its annual clothing drive on October 17 & 18 – just 4 short weeks away. Your discarded items can be a blessing to the poor. Please help us help those in need! We will be collecting all kinds of cold weather wear and bedding/blankets. Thanks for your help with this project – plus you’ll have some extra room in the closet for some of those things you’ve had your eyes on lately!

QMYM Issue Mee ng will take place Wednesday 9/23 at 7pm in the Youth Room. All HS teens are welcome!!
