WORDS FROM OUR CEO Dear Club Families and Friends,
I want to take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation to all of you
who volunteer your time and talent at our Boys & Girls Club. You are a large
part of the success of the Club and our impact on the children, teens and
families we serve. Thank you to those who have volunteered as mentors to
support and encourage our members. You are helping youth succeed in
school, make good decisions, and plan for their future. Thank you to those
who have made contributions of any amount. You are helping to keep this
high-quality program available for everyone – regardless of their ability to
pay. Thank you to our Board of Directors. Your leadership and vision have
helped us serve more youth with more impact. Thank you to service groups,
churches and corporations that have donated shoes, clothes, school
supplies, food, and holiday gifts to our families in need.
Together we are changing lives for the better and giving hope of an even
better future.
Great futures really do start here – with YOU and Boys & Girls Club of
Cypress.
Appreciatively,
Anne, Chief Executive Officer

The 2nd Annual BGCC Teen Center Open
was held on Sunday, March 17th, 2019 at
the beautiful Black Gold Golf Course in
Yorba Linda. Event Chairs Charles Williams and Jon Peat were joined by
108 golfers on a warm and sunny St. Patrick’s Day morning.
The day started with a delicious continental breakfast provided by
Amanda Huizar and Karen Williams, while golfers registered. After
warming up on the driving range, the golf carts rolled out onto the course
at 8:00AM. Golfers enjoyed a host of snacks, beverages and games
along the course. Vinny “the Pasta Man” Ciurluini demonstrated his world
-champion long drive abilities and raised nearly $1,000 for the Teen
Center. Several volunteer “leprechauns” toured the course throughout
the tournament to ensure the golfers were having a great time.
After the tournament, the hungry golfers enjoyed a delicious pasta-buffet
luncheon which included more than 100 raffle and auction items
donated by local businesses and community members, and a game of
Last Man Standing. Awards were presented to the Winning Golf Team
“Beauty and the Beasts” (Amelia DeLazzer, David Ek, Pete Grant, Bob
Sittman) and the Most Honest Team “Van Maanen and Crew” (Michael
Morrison Sr., Sean Jenkins, Jim Nordeman, Tanner Van Maanen, and
Mike Van Maanen).
Golfers and sponsors raised over $45,000 to help pay for the
construction of the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress’s Bandai Teen Center.
Construction completed last week and new furnishings arrived in March.
The new Bandai Teen Center will provide an additional 1,600 square feet
to the Main Clubhouse, allowing more teens to join.

FULL STEAM AHEAD
This year’s 9-week Summer Program is offered from June 3rd through
August 2nd, Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 6:30pm with morning
and afternoon snacks for all members. Each week has a different theme
such as superheroes, space, mystery, nature, and more. Contributions from
community members help the Club provide scholarship for families who
qualify.
The Summer Program is appropriate for a wide range of ages and interests.
The youngest members must have completed Kindergarten and be entering
1st grade. Tweens and Teens have their own program in our brand-new
Bandai Teen Center with separate activities and field trips. Each week
features theme-based group STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art,
and Math) projects, sports activities, game tournaments, Club competitions,
and much more. The Club’s games room includes ping pong, foosball, pool
tables, and a variety of electronic games.
Special interest classes and clubs are offered at no additional charge and
include internet safety, health and nutrition, STEAM clubs, dance,
leadership opportunities, cooking, and much more. Optional field trips are
offered for an additional fee each week and include outings to exciting
locations such as Big Air, Boomers, Thrill It, Glow Zone, and the ice skating.
