Staff NotesName: Claire Bottrall Position: Senior Landscape Architect Current projects: St Marks College, Inner West Traffic Study, Para West Adult Campus, North East Park Lands, Henley Beach and Semaphore Coast Park Who/what inspires you: People who try a new approach to things. Design that changes your mood. My family. Design idol: Patrick Blanc revolutionised the vertical wall, I like a lot of Mien Ruys’ work, Don Burke inspires me to wear more knits…Design you wished you could take credit for: The High Line, New York. They took a problem and turned it into an amazing positive. Fav eatery: Eros or The Greek on Halifax. Most treasured possession: Hmmm, I’m not sure I really treasure possessions that much. I’m very ‘out of sight, out of mind’. I quite like my hat stand...does that count? Best thing about living in Adelaide: The shops and the restaurants. After growing up on a farm I never stop appreciating these things. First favourite song as a kid: Money by Pink Floyd. On reflection I was possibly tricked into that by my father…Currently Listening to: I totally have the Muppet theme song in my play list right now! But it is mixed in with Powderfinger, Jet, Tim Minchin, The Black Keys, Girl Talk and Foster the People.

Not all play for SPA Landscape team

As we slide into the end of the year, it’s time once again to fill you in on all the happenings at SPA.

Firstly, we congratulate architects Paul Rawinski, Nick Grbin and landscape architect Amelia Ames and Claire Bottrall on achieving their respective registration. All that hard work and effort paid off and you can officially call yourselves architects and landscape architects, well done!

Sitenotes would also like to welcome Erin Depledge, our most recent addition to the ID Team. Erin comes to us after finishing her degree in Interior Architecture at UniSA. We look forward to working with her in the future.

In addition to achieving registration, Paul Rawinski set himself a physical challenge this year to complete the Noosa Triathlon. After months of training he finished in an impressive time of 2.41.42. Apparently it was a good day out and sitenotes hears whispers that he could be heading back next year. Well done Paul.

SPA has recently donated several of our older computers to the Blue Sky School in Kathmandu, this was done in collaboration with Pulteney Grammar School. Great to see this equipment to be put to good use, the computers will be heading over to Kathmandu very soon.

As featured in previous issues of sitenotes, the Ingle Farm Children’s Centre was formally opened on the 5th of November by Jennifer Rankine. Congratulations to all involved, a fantastic outcome.

And finally, we couldn’t finish the year without a baby and an engagement!

Firstly Landscape architect and team leader Peter Semple and his wife Shelley are excited to welcome Primrose, born 3rd December, a new little sister to Alessandra. Congratulations, what a fantastic way to start the festive season.

Sitenotes is also pleased to announce the engagement of Ben Kranz (our IT manager) and Felicity Swanbury (Administration) on the 20th September. Huge Congratulations to you both and best of luck with the preparations!

Its been a busy year for the landscape team at SPA, (hopefully most of you received our special issue). In addition to the completion of some landmark (pardon the pun) projects the team has also been hard at work putting new ideas into the community in regards to natural play spaces. The concept has been featured in a number of print and online publications and seems to have struck a chord with the community at large about the play spaces we provide for children and how the green belt around the city might be used. Another space to watch...

Superpower (if you could have one): Travel anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye. Growing up you thought you would be? A tip truck driver (ah, the dreams we never achieve)! Memorable SPA (by this I mean Swanbury Penglase) moment: A fellow landscape member spraying a drink of water into a directors face when they laughed mid swallow would have to be up there with the most I’ve ever laughed.

Amelia, Paul, Nick, Claire & Erin

Ladies and gentlemen golfers, we need you! Swanbury Penglase are proud title sponsors of the South Australian Seniors PGA Championship held at the Adelaide Shores Golf Park. Each year we are given guest spots in the Pro-Am section of the championship which sees teams paired with a pro. Previous years have seen pairings with golf greats such as Wayne Grady, Roger Davis, Peter Fowler and Mike Hardwood. If you’re a keen golfer and would like to join us as our guest at next year’s Pro-Am, please let us know and we can include you on the short list ballot for the available spots. A great day and an amazing opportunity, don’t miss it!

Want to play golf with the pro’s?
