High Speed Centrifugal Filter for Waste and Air Remediation
FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY
ENERGY GENERATION
WASTE REDUCTION
COST SAVINGS
Carew Centrifugal Technology’s
innovations clarify waste water by
removing suspended solids to
submicron range without chemical
treatment. It extracts 99.9% of total
solids. The resultant effluent can be
further purified using the CCT in series
as required for human or animal
consumption, or applied to the
environment with no adverse impact to
the receiving medium.
It reduces the volume of waste to be
landfilled, saving transportation and
disposal costs. A high efficiency reactor
converts bio-solids to hydrocarbons for
transportation. Efficiency is between
30-60%, with a projected rate of return
of less than 2 years.
Different filter models and fuel
generation mechanisms have several
patents and other patents pending.
Patent numbers: 7,122,123 and
6,761,270.

closed system to a CCF solid oxide fuel cell for power generation.
Additional applications include the filter being used to break water-oil-particulate emulsions
to separate the oil for recycling; dissolved solids being temporarily bound to selective
adsorbents; and through a series of spin and desorption-adsorbent reactivation cycles
controlled by the CPU, isolate a precipitate such as precious metals in mining operations.
The clear filtrates can be water or other valuables. A micron to submicron filter, with high
centrifugal throughput, can recycle, sterilize, and generate particulate-free air and water,
exceeding all regulatory limits.

Technology at work for you PROVIDING INNOVATIVE FILTRATION AND SEPARATION SOLUTIONS FOR THE FUTURE
Carew Centrifugal Technology’s (CCT) filter device, in
different configurations, generates dry solids and purified
fluids, including water and oil. The filters are also used on
stacks to collect heavy metals and CO2 from air. The core
filter’s adjustable apertures remove solids, and when
completely closed, laser etched apertures exclude
particulates (microbes) less than 0.1 micron. Centrifugal
fins mounted internally and externally to the micro-filter
clear particulates and fluids from the filter to avoid binding,
and greatly improve throughput. Stacked or series formats
enable continuous processing of wastes to dry solids and
purified fluids, free of both suspended and dissolved
solids and without chemical pre-treatment, thus
contributing to cost mitigation in waste management.
These low maintenance, self operating and self
cleaning tunable aperture centrifugal filters can be
assembled in 4 to 6 unit carts similar to that shown in
the photograph to the left. This multi-unit cart has a
potential daily output of 500,000 gallons per day. All
units operate from a single touch screen CPU.
Suspended solids typically exit the filter press with 40-
60% dryness: clear filtrate still containing dissolved
solids can be purified by selective adsorption either
within the centrifugal filter by “spin-dry cycles” with
regenerating adsorbent, or in a separate centrifugal
modification of the filter shown in the 2D CAD drawings
to the right and the 3D illustration below.
FILTER CORE TECHNOLOGY
The filter core with sub-micron laser etched apertures, sub-section
shown on lower left, can be adjusted digitally. When completely
closed, they exclude particulates (microbes) less than 0.1 micron.
A stepper motor opens the aperatures from between 2 and 250
microns in 2 micron increments, depending on the matter being
filtered. The laser etched ridges in the flat wire filter coil, below left,
form apertures in the sub-micron region for micro-filtration of
microbial and fine particulates from both air and water. The filters
can be used in stacks or series to capture and process multiple
levels of waste, including both suspended and dissolved solid
removal.
The technology offers a high performance, cost effective
alternative to conventional water and waste water treatment
technologies, while costing appreciably less. Its footprint is
significantly less than alternatives and. Its compact size makes it
ideal for mobile applications, temporary installations, or for use in
remote areas.
CASE STUDY
The filter has long term use at industrial sites processing machine
oil and at agricultural sites processing hog waste. The new
centrifugal model does not require a chemical coagulation of
suspended solids in oil/water treatment. Examples of waste
machine and de-emulsified oil and hog barn waste before and after
treatment are shown on the left. These applications avoid a wide
range of human health and ecological impacts such as surface run
off, leaching into soil and groundwater, and releases into the air.
MULTIPLE PROCESS CONFIGURATIONS
The Carew Centrifugal Filter (CCF), with its pneumatic filter-drying unit, is a useful adjunct to
readily available gasification units. Dried solids from the CCF are suitable for biofuel
production and turbo-electric power generation without accompanying particulate emissions.
The sanitized residue phosphates removed are useful as fertilizer.
In another CCF
application, the dried
solids are flash-pyrolysed
and converted to bio-oils.
Next, they are
catalytically converted to
hydrocarbon in a series
of centrifugal (CCF)
columns as illustrated on
the left. Gasoline and
diesel vapors can be
flash condensed as liquid
fuel or, along with light
fractions, fed directly in a
WATER TREATMENT
STARTUP
If processing 220 gallons of waste-
water, with an initial investment and
operating costs not exceeding
$225,000 over a 10-year period, this
results in $0.001/gallon total costs.
By comparison, typical municipal
and industrial waste treatment
averages $0.1/gallon, with
agricultural waste cost in the range
of $0.03/gallon.
REVENUE/PRODUCTION
RATES
Daily revenue is $9,319.50/day for
a 10 ton waste-to-energy process.
The systems efficiency is in the
order of 30, with coke and other
light hydrocarbon gasses by-
products.
