Parents, Scholars, and Students

Many great scholars believe that education is the

manifestation of perfection that already existing in human

beings. Chanakya, a great Indian philosopher and scholar,

opines thus:

This means we have to gain knowledge in the first stage of life,

earn money in the second stage of life, Dharma (family

responsibilities) in the third stage of life and earn Yasha (social

glory) in the fourth stage.

Education plays a vital role in the enhancement and

advancement of an individual, society, and civilization as a

whole. It aims to exterminate poverty by creating

employment, bring intellectual consciousness to the remotest

corners of the nation, and build human resources to transform

the society. As the mighty current of a river can’t be

embedded, neither can human interest and desires.

In this context, Chanakya Secondary School/College is

committed to impart quality education to our valued students

for a promising future, making them capable and competitive

on a global scale.

We, at Chanakya, aspire to herald a new beginning in the field

of education by exploring the opportunities of employment

and freeing from material scarcity and the shadows of

ignorance. I would like to assure all parents that our college

does not believe in bookish knowledge; rather it focuses on

discipline, morality, and humanity as indispensable values of a

student. Finally, I would like to assure you that Chanakya

SS/College is committed to providing quality education with

excellent academic results in a safe and sanitized environment.

LEARNING PEDAGOGY

Chanakya SS/College encourages the overall participation of students in academics; hence, a stimulating environment for

teaching/learning process is set up which is an ideal interactive melting-pot of refreshing thoughts and ideas.

We have adopted a pedagogical approach as incorporating traditional and contemporary educational methodologies to add the

essence of East meets West learning approach. To make the teaching interactive and non-monotonous, students are engaged in

independent and group projects. They are encouraged to involve in interactive sessions, subject-specific projects, workshops, seminars

by guest lecturers, and field visits. Provision of audio-visual technology tools like multimedia and projectors are used extensively to

provide technology-oriented learning.

CHANAKYA PUBLICATIONS

EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS

Educational training will guide and cultivate students to see

the practical aspect of their learning and understanding.

Training takes place in a company or business house, offering

the student the opportunity to adapt what she or he has

learned in a working environment using reasoning and

decision making in a real workplace.

Chanakya SS/College organizes Periodical Educational

Training Programs to enhance the practical knowledge

beyond theory classes. Since practical training is part of the

student’s studies, it is very well-planned and supervised. The

Training Program is followed by project works that are

evaluated and marked by the external invigilator from NEB at

the end of each session.

14

Page 18: QUALITY LEARNING TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE · 2021. 7. 5. · Dr.Ishwor Chandra Dutta Chairman, Former TU Sercive Commision Professor Dr.Uttam Karmacharya Professor of Education, TU Mr.Mahesh

For students of Business Studies and Computer Science,

Industrial visit is organized as practical learning of their

respective courses. The purpose of the practical training is to

familiarize students, under supervision, with the essential tasks

related to the degree. While on an industrial visit they are

exposed to different departments of the industry/office.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

The tasks are based on each student’s learning objectives and

the needs of the employer. This helps in gaining firsthand

experience of management and operation of different

departments and gain information on the company’s

marketing, supplies, and productions.

HOTEL TRAINING AND VISITS

The Hotel Management students are provided with practical

training according to the curriculum through exposure to

various departments of Hotels and their operations. During this

training, students gain experience with works carried out by

different departments of the hotel i.e. kitchen, front desk, bar,

customer service, housekeeping, and more.

We collaborate with some of the best hotels in the Valley like

Radisson, Soaltee, Marriot, Hyatt, Country Villa, Mystic

Mountain, and Gokarna Forest Resort to let our students

understand the requirement and functioning of a international

level working environment.

Page 19: QUALITY LEARNING TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE · 2021. 7. 5. · Dr.Ishwor Chandra Dutta Chairman, Former TU Sercive Commision Professor Dr.Uttam Karmacharya Professor of Education, TU Mr.Mahesh

SEMINARS

We organize various seminars and workshops with guest

lecturers throughout the year. Programs like Motivational

Speaking, Personality Development, Career Developments,

and Presentations provide information about self-evaluation,

study skills, learning styles, time management, stress

management, and more. Seminars and workshops provide a

chance to interact with experts from the specific field.

Discussing the relevant topics of the particular subject,

students tend to learn about the latest information and new

skills related to the concerned subject. Such interactive events

have numerous benefits, including improving communication

skills, gaining expert knowledge, networking with others, and

renewing motivation and confidence.

16

Page 20: QUALITY LEARNING TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE · 2021. 7. 5. · Dr.Ishwor Chandra Dutta Chairman, Former TU Sercive Commision Professor Dr.Uttam Karmacharya Professor of Education, TU Mr.Mahesh

CLASSPRESENTATIONS

One of the major skill in today’s challenging economic

situation is the ability to communicate effectively. Chanakya

College/School recognize the need of oral communication and

to enhance the prospects of employment for the students,

they are required to undergo a one day presentation

workshop at the beginning of the session. Here the students

get a hand on experience on how to present a topic in front of

a group of people, enhancing their communication skills and

confidence building. It’s mandatory to attend and participate

in presentation session at least once in all subjects as per the

college academic calendar. These are evaluated and

appended in terminal mark sheet.

EVALUATIONWe at Chanakya are aware that every student is not same and

all need special attention and evaluation to ensure that she/he

is effectively dealing with the course study and making

progress. Hence, we evaluate and prepare students for the

board examinations administered by the Nepal Examination

Board (NEB). The evaluation is based on the Annual Record of

the student which includes,

If students fail to meet the standard evaluation criteria we

personally monitor and evaluate such students and if required

conduct additional necessity activities until and unless she/he

qualifies to appear for the board examination.

Besides the academic aspect of the students, the students

nonacademic performance (punctuality, discipline,

performance in ECA, special talents) will be evaluated and

reported to the concerned guardians periodically.

ECA & COUNSELINGWe believe sports and physical activity enhances every aspect

of a child’s development and learning. It is the child’s window

to the external world and forms the foundation of social,

intellectual, physical, and emotional skills that are requisite for

success, as well as, in life. To encourage such activities,

Chanakya has provided basketball court, table tennis,

badminton, chess, etc. to keep them occupied and involved.

We believe the participation of students in different

extracurricular activities to bolster the capacity of creative

learning and recognize their potential allowing them to

explore the value of leadership and team spirit. Different

activities such as creative writing, quiz contests, debate,

spelling bee, dance competition, musical shows, and talent

shows are conducted at par with academic routine.

We provide mentoring and counselling for all our students as

an integral phase that bridges a student’s prospective career.

We offer individual assistance on all aspects of career

planning and decision-making, including self-assessment;

choice of major and career field; exploration of career-related

interests; pursuit of internships and employment; and

application to professional and graduate school. Throughout

their time at Chanakya, students will have access to numerous

resources to help them design their visions for meaningful

career paths and prepare for the future. They are encouraged

to develop your thoughts by talking with counsellors who are

here to help them.

In each of their intellectual endeavours, our students

uncommonly are driven by the belief that their work must —

and will — have an impact in their communities, in society and

the world. Students leave Chanakya prepared to thrive as

independent, innovative leaders, no matter what path they

choose.

Annual ECA activities conductedare as follows:

• Sports Week.

• Inter-College Basketball Tournament

• Inter-College Football Tournament

• Inter-College Quiz Competition

• Inter-Class Public Speaking Contest

EXCURSIONS Our institute organizes long and short excursions annually as

part of the +2 program which provides firsthand experience of

our country, its landscape, living conditions of people, and

various cultures and traditions. The students are provided with

an opportunity to not just explore and enjoy nature but also

understand and see the effect of changing global weather

conditions and its direct and indirect impact on all.

Such excursions help them learn various aspects of commercial

culture, traditional and cultural values, and beauty of the

landscapes of this country. Excursion reports are assigned to

the students on such trips which are evaluated by the

invigilator from NEB at the end of each session.

Two years journey as a student in Chanakya

College was the most cheerful, memorable and

rewarding experience of my life. Chanakya helped

me develop myself academically and personally

through excellent education and opportunities

through exceptional programs, trainings, events

and various workshops in becoming a competent

person. I am now pursuing my further education in

Australia; much credit goes to Chanakya for

creating such friendly learning environment and

facilities that helped me fit right in without any

trouble in broadening my social horizon.

College life has been very special to me. Every moment

in college has helped me broaden my mind. Failure

and then success in my life has made me stronger and

determined to achieve my goal.

Chanakya, Dream College where i got a fair chance to

enhance my talent, sharpen my mind, widen my

knowledge and create a beautiful world for myself.

Since the moment I joined Chanakya College, I was met with

nothing but energy and enthusiasm. The faculties and staffs at this

institution are one of the finest that always wants their students to

do well. I was exposed to so many opportunities here and got all the

help and support I wanted. Teachers helped me beyond words, and

it was a privilege to have been a part of this school and am glad to

have made the decision. Chanakya was more than a school for me.

It was a family, a family that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

My two best years in Chanakya College, was a place where my

voice was being heard and respected, where I got a chance to enjoy

the quality education along with the opportunities to grow. I believe

what grows together, goes together. A place which was more like a

home, gave me the confident that I always seek for- gave me the

prospect for significant growth, learning and relevant exposure.

Proud to be a Chanakian.

It was an amazing experience being at Chanakya for my higher

secondary education. As a student and a Class Representative, I

learnt more than I expected especially in the area of leadership,

communication and organizer, which helped me enhance my skills

and confidence to become a successful entrepreneur in future. I

would like to extend my appreciation towards all my facilitators

and mentors that accompanied me in this wonderful journey which

are a living experience that are worth sharing.

The corona virus pandemic has resulted in the closure of

schools and colleges across the country. Education has

changed dramatically with a considerable rise in e-learning.

Online learning, which came as a panacea for the crisis, is

increasingly seen as a new paradigm in education.

Online classes have enabled the teachers to quickly assess the

learning of students as and when they teach. Chanakya has

been using various means of media platforms such as

Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for communication, to

connect with learning groups and other educational updates

on college events and activities. Such a platform has helped us

stay socially connected to the wider audience.

During the Lockdown school/college has been successfully

conducting virtual online classes through Video Conferencing

App’s adapting the distance learning approach. Keeping the

need for the app on mind and to have better communication

with our students, Chanakya is soon launching its own LMS

(Learning Management System). The program will provide an

online learning platform for students and at the same time

give access to parents to observe the teaching methods and

keep track of the growth and shortcomings of their children.
