FACULTY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

Objective:

To enhance knowledge and capacity building with the objective of a holistic approach to a more

facilitating academic environment.

Report:

The Management follows the tradition of conducting faculty orientation programme before the

commencement of every academic year where eminent resource persons empower the teachers

with strategies to effectively deal with the dynamics /challenges of teaching profession. Faculty

development is given top priority and the management conducts seminars, workshops and guest

lectures‟ for the multifaceted enrichment of the faculty.

Outcome:

Program intended to help administrators, teachers, and other educators improve their

professional knowledge, competence, skill, and effectiveness.

NEW FACULTY ORIENTATION

Objective:

To help them to understand their role and discharge their duties in more efficient manner

Report:

As a step towards inviting the newly recruited faculty and helping them understand the working

system of the institution, the IQAC conducts New faculty orientation on 05 June, 2016 to give

them an overview of the activities and responsibilities to be taken up as a faculty of the

institution related to teaching-learning, examinations, student support and governance. This helps

them to understand the work culture and also be familiarized with the faculty at college level and

departmental level.

Outcome:

Programme had a positive impact on the teachers with regards to their professional development

as it caters to the various needs and skills required to be an effective teacher.

ORIENTATION PROGAMME

Objective:

To provide a welcoming atmosphere for students and families to meet faculty, staff,and

continuing students, as well as other new students.

Second and Third year Students of UG

Orientation Programme for Second and Third Year Students was organized on 15th

June 2016.It

was conducted for each class separately by the respective subject faculty. The students were

informed about the curriculum, examinations, discipline, placements and other activities of the

department and College. They were also reminded of their responsibilities as senior students to

organize the departmental activities and college events during the academic year.

First Year Students of UG

Orientation programme is organized to help new students get off to the right start by helping

them learn about academic requirements, meeting with faculty and learning about campus

programmes and services. Orientation Programme for First Year Students was conducted on 30th

June 2016. The day commenced with a Prayer Song by the college Choir „Anna Domini‟

invoking God‟s blessings followed by lighting of the lamp. Rev.Fr.VincentArokiadas, Principal

welcomed the fresher‟s to the Joseph‟s family and addressed them to remain focused in life and

also to know the importance of education and guru. He quoted that “The beautiful thing about

learning is that no one can take it away from you”. He also mentioned that nothing is impossible

and we all deserve abundance.

Students were apprised about the College, achievements, campus culture, code of

conduct, Teaching- Learning practices, Student support services, Teaching Methodology,

academic clubs, placements, sports, Extension services, examination system under autonomy and

other activities of the college. Prof.P.L. Vishweshwara Rao, Director, addressed the students on

the importance and status of autonomy education. He said that the formula of Autonomy consists

of Home work, Hard work, Smart work and Net work. The highlight of the day was a campaign

organized by BA.Mass Communication students in collaboration with cyber crime police,

Hyderabad on the occasion of “Social Media Day”. The seniors entertained the fresher‟s with an

interactive and mesmerizing ice breaking session with activities such as standup comedy, quiz,

singing, mimicry. It holds true that experience speaks better than mere knowledge about

something; hence the Alumni and final year students shared their experiences and good

memories with their juniors. The Orientation programme concluded with the singing of the

National Anthem.

MCJ Orientation Programme

Orientation for MCJ I year students was conducted on 03rd

August 2016. Rev Fr. Vincent

Arokiadas, Principal introduced the students to the Vision, Mission and History of the college

including rules and regulations to be followed. Prof. P.L.Visweshwar Rao, Director and Rev Fr.

Kingston, Head of the Department gave an overview on course structure, examination system,

infrastructure and other aspects. Students got a real flavour of the departmental activities when

they were shown a film “Life at St.Joseph‟s” which was made by students of Mass

Communication & Journalism

Outcomes:

Students became familiar with the campus environment.

Students felt confident and excited about their decision.

Students were able to project exemplary performance in activities designed during the

Fr.Vincent Arokiadas Principal has given welcome address.He motivated the students to take

up every challenge during their stay in college and bring in sense of commitment to the college.

Father also said that life is when we discover is beautiful experience to handle. reach out to the

best consult –it will help stretch a little.

Ms.SujathaBurla Founder, Shraddha Foundation,Social Activist,Anchor and stock trader was the

resource person for the orientation.She was very happy to be a part of the orientation

programme. She motivated the students by telling them her life story and said “Put in your 100%

and Love what you do.”

WORKSHOP TITLED SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCE ON EDUCATION

Objective:

To create awareness on social media influence on education system.

Report:

The Department of Business Management hosted the Workshop titled Social Media Influence on

Education on 6th

June 2016, by Mr. K. Suresh Director Apollo. The resource emphasized on the

restricted use of media and cited how the youngsters are misusing it, which in turn is affecting

their health.

ICT IN TEACHING- LEARNING

Objective:

To train faculty on digital toolkits in order to teach students of modern generations.

Report:

Department of Computer Science has organized on 10th June 2016 a Faculty Development

Programme on “ICT in Teaching & Learning” whose objective was to enlighten all the faculty

members of the college to get ready with the effective tools of teaching and learning along with

digital toolkit which is a need of the hour skill to know in order to teach the 21st generation

students. The FDP session included the effective tools of teaching and learning like animoto – a

video slideshow maker, popplet – An idea generator and mind map, prezi – A the presentation

software, Collage maker – A photo collage and youtube downloader. The session also

included a practical demonstration on video conferencing and fundamental features of MS-

Excel to make sure that a faculty of any department is known to today‟s technology trends well

equipped to facilitate the student needs well in advance. The team of Computer Science faculty

were the resource persons for the FDP and carried themselves professionally to reach the

audience‟s expectations to possible extent. The Head of Computer Science Department Mrs. M.

KiranJyothi first engraved the essence of ICT into everyone‟s mind & heart, then followed by the

effective tools of teaching & learning taken by Mrs. P. Madhuri Paul, continued by Mrs. T.

Esther Ratna&Mr. S. Srikanth on demonstrating the video conferencing and Prezi and finally by

Mrs. K. HariPriya enlightened few basics and shortcuts in MS-Excel.

Outcomes:

At the end of the session faculty were made aware on various teaching learning tools.

Faculty has enhanced their knowledge with the basics of computers.

Objective:

To make the young mind and heart feel fresh and energetic.

SOCIAL MEDIA DAY

Objective:

To Raise awareness and promote cyber safety, privacy settings in social media

Report:

On the occasion of Social Media Day, St. Joseph's College in collaboration with Telangana State

Cyber Police organised „Cyber Safety Campaign‟ on 30th

June 2016. Mr. Raghuveer, Assistant

Commissioner of Police, initiated the campaign by sending posters and pamphlets with

precautionary measures to be followed for Social media safety, which included a few pointers

such as use of privacy settings, changing the password, not sharing personal information to

strangers etc.

Cyber Safety Campaign was started by Rev.Fr.VincentArokiadas, Principal and

addressed the students on cyber safety, citing social media as the 'new virus' and recommended

cyber safety awareness as the antivirus. Prof.PL.VisweshwarRao, Director said, “In view of the

growing cyber crime, youth should follow Facebook privacy and private chats with strangers

should be avoided." Students of Department of Mass communication & Journalism, under the

guidance of Dr. M.Sangeetha, Head, Department of English spread the awareness of cyber safety

by visiting all classes and addressing students on hazards of social media, apart from distributing

pamphlets and displaying posters across the campus on measures of cyber safety.

LECTURE SERIES ON ROLE OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES IN

DIGITALIZATION

Objective:

To create awareness on mathematical science and its role in digital world.

Report:

The Science Academies Lecture Series Workshop on “Role of Mathematical Sciences in

digitalization” convened by Prof. V. Kannan, HCU was organized by the Department of

Science, St. Joseph‟s Degree & PG College King Koti, Hyderabad on 7& 8 of September 2016

and was sponsored by Indian Academy of Sciences(IAS), Bangalore, Indian National Science

Academy(INSA), New Delhi and National Academy of Sciences(NAS), Allahabad. The

Proposal for the Lecture Series to the Three Academy of Sciences got approved on 10th

August

2016 and a sum of Rs.1,03,500 /- was sanctioned. The Lecture Workshop was supported fully by

the three National Science Academies: Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National

Science Academy, Delhi and The National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad, India.

A total of 178 students (including 51 students from our college) 28 colleges and 11 faculty

members from 10 different colleges and 20 faculty members from our college registered for the

participation in the lecture workshop.

1. A Lecture on Use of Topological Dynamics in three problems of Digitalization” was

delivered by the Convenor of the Workshop Prof. V. Kannan, School of Mathematics &

Statistics, HCU, Hyderabad

2. Dr. K. Veerbhadra Rao, Department of CSE, OU, Hyderabad, delivered a lecture on

“The Importance of Statistics for Digital Communication”.

3. A Lecture on “Computational Physics and the Application of Mathematical

Techniques” was delivered by Prof. V.S.S. Sastry, School of Physics, HCU,

Hyderabad

4. A Lecture on “Data Sciences its relevance and Importance” was delivered by Prof. V.

V. Hara Gopal, Department of Statistics, OU , Hyderabad

5. A Lecture on “Satellite Remote Sensing, Applications” was delivered by Padmasri

Award recipient Prof. Durga Prasad Rao, NRSA, Hyderabad.

6. A Lecture on “Sentiment Analysis / Opinion Mining” was delivered by Prof. B. L.

Deekshatulu, IDRBT, Hyderabad

VISIT TO NATIONAL POLICE ACADEMY

Objective:

To motivate students to take up Indian Civil Services exam

Report:

The college organized visit to National Police Academy located at Shivrampally, Hyderabad on

27th

& 28th

September 2016. 40 students from B.Com First, Second and Final Year were taken to

the academy accompanied by Mrs. Esther Ratna, Dean, Administration of the College. The main

objective of the visit is to motivate students to take up all India Civil Services Exam to become

IPS officers.

Students were taken to model police station where the trainees were given a mock crime

scene and taught how to investigate on it. At the forensic science building, students were

explained about the functioning of forensic science lab. Students were taken to various places

such as gymnasium, badminton court, tennis court, swimming pool, Dhyan Kendra for yoga and

meditation, rock climbing and urban shooting range where the trainees are given training. Later

the students walked through guest houses of different states such as Rajasthan Bhavan, MP

Bhavan, ITBP cottage etc.

OF CURRENCY”

To spread knowledge and awareness on Challenges and Opportunities of Demonetization of

Currency

Report:

To spread knowledge and awareness on Challenges and Opportunities of Demonetization of

Currency, Department of Business Management organized a workshop on 28 Nov 2016 by

inviting eminent speakers to share their knowledge and throw light on the topic. Justice Chandra

Kumar, Ret Judge, AP High Court, B.PapaRaju, Former Vice President, Axis Bank, Indian

American Citizen, Mr. G S Ram Mohan, Business Editor, ABN Andhra Jyothi, Mr.Chinabotla,

CA, Ramesh & Co, Mr.SudhakerGoud, Education Consultant & Former Director, British

Library and Mr.GovindaRajulu, General Secretary, All India Save Committee & Advocate

shared their view points and concluded with Q&A session.

Outcome:

Students were enlightened with importance of demonetization and security design to avoid the

production of counterfeit notes.

Objective:

To overcome challenges faced in examinations and evaluation process in autonomous college.

Report:

St. Joseph‟s Degree & PG College,King Koti, Hyderabad (Autonomous)is Conducted a

Workshop on the various Issues and how to overcome those issues in Examinations & evaluation

in autonomous Colleges on 19 Dec 2016 from 2PM to 4 PM in the college campus chaired by the

college principal Rev.Fr.Dr. Vincent Arokiadas. The workshop in the college is coordinated by

the College Controller of examinations and all the Autonomus colleges controller of

examinations, Addl.CoEs and Also principles attended. Participants discussed about Common

PANEL DISCUSSION ON “ROLE OF MEDIA IN DEMOCRACY”

Objective:

To improve the quality of public life and promote democratic forms and too enhances the ability

and desire to listen to others.

Report:

A panel discussion was organized by IQAC on the vital topic “Role of Media in Democracy” on

8 February, 2017. The main objective was to discuss on the role of media in today‟s

democracies.The following were the experts invited for the discussion: Mr. Krishank Manne,

President, Telangana State Youth Welfare, Ms. Rachana Reddy, Advocate, TS High Court and

Prof. P L Vishweshwar Rao, Director, St. Joseph‟s College

Outcomes:

At the end of the session students got a deep insights into the ways in which digital platforms are

being used to share different types of news, and their concerns.

INVESTMENT PLANNING

Objective:

To create awareness on financially-security and find investment avenues that will allow growing

money over time.

Report:

The Management of the college organized an awareness programme on Investment Planning on

9th

February, 2017 with a view to enlighten various plans, schemes and modes of money

management and investment planning for the staff. The resource persons were Mr. Rahul Jain,

CS and Mr. Raju, CA. who gave an overview on various available methods for investment

planning and the benefits of tax planning. The programme gave a scope for staff to interact and

helped them to access their planning. Various staff used the services of the resource persons for

filing their returns

Outcomes:

Staff were enlightened with various plans, schemes and money management methods to be

adopted to make life safe and secure.

WORKSHOP ON SPEAKING AND PRESENTATION SKILLS

Objective:

To enhance and enrich speaking and presentation skills in students

Report:

Mr. Zach Simon (Alumni), Consultant, Professional Training and Coaching, Hyderabad was

invited to train SQAC students on Speaking and Presentation Skills on 27& 28 Feb 2017. The

session included group activities and discussion. This activity helped students to understand the

importance of presentation skills and working together as a team.

PANEL DISCUSSION ON “CYBER-ARENA: IS IT A SAFE PLACE?”

Objective:

To create awareness on cybercrimes and safety measures to be adopted by an individual.

Report:

IQAC organized a Panel Discussion on Cyber-Crime titled as “CYBER-ARENA: IS IT A SAFE

PLACE?” on 06 March, 2017 at Seminar Hall, Extended Campus from 12:00 – 01:30pm.

Students of B.Com (Computers) and B.Com (IT) I yr students were part of the panel

discussion. The following experts were invited: Rev.Fr.VincentArokiadas, Principal, St.Joseph‟s

Degree & PG College, Prof. P. L. Vishweshwar Rao, Director, St.Joseph‟s Degree & PG

College, Mr.Mohan Rao, Detective Inspector, Crime Branch, Abids, Mr.Rambabu, Sub-

Inspector, Crime Branch, Abids who gave an overview of types of cyber crimes, how one can be

victimised citing real time examples, what precautions to be taken and how to approach Cyber

Crime department in case of complaint etc.

The discussion had various questions from the students which helped them to get an overview on

Cyber Crime.

Objectives:

To get deep insights on various aspects of inspection process through mock inspections

Report:

In view of autonomous, under the headship of Rev. Fr. Vincent Arokiadas, Principal made huge

contributions in terms of curriculum design and review and in setting up a well established

examination system. As the institution was to go for autonomy review inspection after the first

cycle, Prof. Mathew Sreerangam, Autonomy Coordinator, Andhra Loyola and Dr.Smita Asthana,

Dean Academics & IQAC Coordinator, St.Ann's College, Mehdipatnam were invited to give

their insights, inspect the departments as part of mock inspection and suggest for improvement.

CHAIRMAN’S VISIT

Objective:

To offer valuable guidance, blessings and proactive governance for the development of college.

Report:

In a true spirited observation of upholding transparency and good governance practices, our

beloved Chairman, Archbishop Most Rev. ThummaBala paid a day-long visit to the college on

28 Oct 2016 to offer his valuable guidance, blessings and pro-active governance intervention for

the development of the college. The eventful day began with His Grace Blessing the new

Seminar Hall – Jubilee Hall and the renovated Library which was followed by his personal visit

to all the departments to individually interact with every staff member to motivate them and

validate their academic/administrative system of records.

Archbishop Most Rev. ThummaBala also paid a second visit to the College on 21st December

2016 to declare the Results of the Odd Semester. The Chairman interacted with the parents of

students of different streams to elicit feedback and suggestions from them as the feedback from

the stakeholders play a prominent role in maintaining and improving the quality of education. He

discussed with the parents about the functioning of the college and the parents expectations from

the college and also requested their cooperation in the growth and development of the Institution.

He also assured the parents that Joseph‟s would continue to raise quality standards and inculcate

humane values among the students.

PARENTS INTERACTION WITH COLLEGE MANAGEMENT

Objective:

To interact with the parents, review the areas of improvement through their valuable

suggestions.

To get feedback and appraisal about the functioning of the college

Report:

An interactive session of parents of selected students with the Principal of the college was

organized on 18th

Feb 2017 for B.Com Honours & Professional students and on 17th

March 2017

for B.Com General & Computer students by the Admission Committee with an objective to build

a rapport, take feedback and get appraisal about the functioning of the college and its activities to

review and better the areas of improvement. Principal Rev.Fr. Vincent Arokiadas interacted with

the parents, took their feedback and valuable suggestions and their expectations from the college.

Parents gave a highly positive feedback about the college and expressed their satisfaction.

Outcome:

At the end of the session parents gave their valuable suggestions.

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (MDP’S)

Objective:

To create awareness on self-management and self-discipline for senior leaderships.

Report:

Mrs. Molly Chaturvedi and Mrs.A.Mary Francina from the Department of Business

Management conducted the MDP on GLIDE ( Growth,Learn,Innovate,Digitize and Evolve) for

the senior leadership (HR, Finance, Marketing, Sales, Networking, IT) of Idea Cellular

employees of IDEA Ltd at Idea office, Basheerbagh on August 11 2016

Mrs. A. Mary Francina from the Department of Business Management conducted the MDP on

Importance of self management and self discipline for Managers and Assistant Managers of

Idea Cellular Mobile Network Operator Company, Hyderabad- 15 participants belonging to

Network, marketing, sales, and operations department at Jubilee Hall, Main Campus, St.

FDP ON “PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT”

Date : 6 - 14 June 2016

Report:

College organized a Faculty Development Programme on “Professional Development

Programme” for all the faculty members.

Objectives:

To orient faculty in different subjects and domains of specialization

To expose faculty to hands-on training sessions in different workshops

Outcomes:

Faculty were able to expose themselves for different domains of specialization in this

professional development programme. Resource persons from different domains

equipped faculty with advanced skills that will help their professional growth.

1. 6 June: The Department of Business Management hosted the Workshop titled Social

Media Influence on Education by Mr. K. Suresh Director Apollo. The resource

emphasized on the restricted use of media and cited how the youngsters are misusing

it, which in turn is affecting their health.

2. 7 June : The Department of Commerce conducted FDP on “Becoming a Better

Teacher”. The resource person was Prof. V. Viswanadham, a retired Professor from

the Osmania University. He reiterated the role of a teacher in helping our country

regain its position of eminence and emphasized the need for creating curious, value-

and achievement-oriented minds.

3. 8 June : Department of Commerce organized a FDP on Train the trainer in

collaboration with ISDC. Resource Person for this FDP was Mr. Shirishan

Thyagarajan from Srilanka.

4. 9 June: Department of Commerce as a part of introduction of new course B.Com

(IF&A) from the academic year 2016-17. The Program was aimed at giving

training to the faculty in the subject Financial Accounting. The resource person was

CA.Deepak Agarwal from Pune. He explained on various topics such as context

M.John from Kochi. Mr.Santhosh M.John gave an insight on ACCA and a complete

overview of ACCA programme.He mentioned about the ten key competencies of the

programme and said that it entails the students completing the entire ACCA

7. 14 June: On 14 June 2016, the Department of English played host to the Soft Skills

Workshop titled Power of Interaction as part of the Faculty Development programs

aimed at orienting the Faculty towards effective teaching-learning process. The

resource person was Dr.Joel, an eminent Soft Skills and BEC trainer held an activity-

based interactive session which enthused the participants and set their focus on

Assertive Skills which pave way for one's personal and professional enrichment.
