Primary and Secondary Research Primary research is a form of original, first hand research that is undertaken to be able to have the knowledge of certain information through using techniques such as questionnaires, focus groups and interviews. I attempted to do my research through the form of a questionnaire. Secondary research is a form of research that is undertaken by using existing sources that other people have gathered. For secondary research I looked into other peoples qualitative questionnaires to see what types of questions they asked and at the type of responses they were given. 3. Types of Research The type of research that I shall be undertaking shall consist of the following; Demographic Object orientated Knowledge and understanding of the genre 4. By using these open question, I am able to gather a wider awareness of my audiences understandings and what their opinions are towards specified subject matters. This also will help when answering the two evaluative questions related to audience as I will be more experienced and have a better knowledge to be able to give a more detailed answer. 5. Questions Asked What is your favourite genre of film, and why? Do you have an understanding of themes and issues? If so, do you know what the difference is between them? What is your favourite way and place to watch films, and why? Why do you think that Hollywood films are highly successful? Why do you think social realism films have a much lower budget than mainstream films? What do you think are the most effective ways of advertising a film are, and why? What do you think classifies a British film as truly being British? What methods do you think a film maker will take into account when trying to address a target audience? (different ways for different ages) How do you feel when seeing distressing/uncomfortable issues and themes in a media text? What type of things in a movie opening would encourage you to carry on watching the film? 6. Feedback 1 and 2 7. Evaluation My respondents expressed their own opinions on some of the questions. There was a slight difference between the respondents answered as they did have different opinions on the social realism genre. Their answers showed that they have an interest into exploring the genre of social realism, this also helped me to find characteristics my audience have in common which also helped me make a decision on who I should chose for my target demographic, and how I can attract them. From my responses I am now more aware of people having different opinions on mainstream films and social realism films and why. My respondents feedback was highly useful and successful as I now have a much better overall awareness of different audiences opinions and views.
