Everywhere you look these days you’re being told to recycle, reduce and reuse. But, when you’re in your daily zone of chores, work and general business it’s hard to think about the whole planet. It’s easy to tell us what to do but not many are telling us HOW. Follow these easy steps for a guilt free nights sleep and a carbon footprint you don’t have to be embarrassed of.

1. If you don’t need to print it, DON’T.Unnecessarily printing papers and forms is one of the biggest forms of waste businesses overlook. PDF files make it easy and fun to read info online. 2. Use your plastic recycling bin! If you don’t have one, buy one. Plastic drink bottles and food containers can really pile up. It’s not until you start to put them in a separate bin that you realize just how many you can get through in a week! 3. TURN IT OFF!You may not realize it but when your electronics are in stand by you are still using electricity. I have one friend that is so against wastefulness she actually unplugs everything at night.

ah, where it all begins. The ever important logo. I totally understand the importance of the role the logo plays in your business. I specialize in the ‘budget’ logo. I design logos for companies that need to work within a budget while still getting a logo design they can own the copyright to. Start up and small companies are not always on a budget. But if you find you need something quick, high quality and totally cost effective; I’m the girl to go to for your logo. New companies and products always need new logos. But as you grow you may want additional logos for your services, products, projects or events. Although I use elements known as clip art, my work is still fresh and creative while meeting the essential needs. Any logo I create for you can be copyrighted. If you plan to do so, be sure you research other companies to make sure they are not already using something similar. If you have a logo created that is too much like another company’s logo, you may find it hard to copyright. When designing your logo I do three things. 1. Make sure it looks good in black and white as well as colour. 2. Make sure it can be recognized from a distance. 3. Make sure it’s re-recognizable. Meaning the second time a potential client sees your logo they will remember you and what it is you offer. I provide you with several questions to help me get started. This includes asking you about other logos you like. Who your target audience is. All many questions about your company.I then provide you with several mock-ups in various styles to help me narrow down the style you’re after. I deliver your logo in jpg and png or any other file needed in black & white and full colour.

As your business grows you will need various versions of your logo. (facebook allows a long photo to be used as your profile photo, while twitter and myspace allows you to upload your own background and customize other aspects of your page. Various events will require your logo in unique sizes as well. If you want to have your logo put on future ads you will need to make sure you get a clear background. Thanks to the clients I already work for, I’m able to offer new clients foresight into their business needs. You will save money if you get what you need from the start!

ABOVE:Goldfish Gala is a small specialty shop in Audenshaw, Greater Manchester. Their focus is on suppling rare goldfish breeds to the new and serious goldfish hobbyist. I did the naming and branding for this company as well as the logo design. The client wanted a rainbow that had pink in it while keeping orange the main colour of the business.

I must admit, my all time favorite design projects are magazine covers. I have a deep passion and love for glossy publications. I have been reading Vouge since before I could read! I polish the cover layout until it’s perfect.

CLICK CLICKPHOTOGRAPHYI love photography!I specialize in loose gemstone photos.I am an accepted stock photographer with BIGSTOCK, 123RF, and Canstock. I also upload many photos of gems, fish, flowers and food to Wiki-Commons for free editorial use.

In addition to taking the actual photos, I have participated in photo shots with other professional photographers. This includes hiring models, doing make-up and helping with wardrobe. The below photo shows make up done by me. The client wanted a pink leopard pattern. I applied it freehand to the model.

RIGHTA project for fun. Sometimes you just got to get together with models and makeup artists. All the more fun if someone brings a corset!

A little something extra . . .Photo editing is something companies find themselves needing once they start to put together a catalog or web page. The editing is usually something the photographer takes care of. Perhaps you’ve chosen to take the photos yourself of you didn’t think to ask your photographer for specific requirements. If you find you need any help with your photos that match my skills please contact me.

I can sometimes remove the background or give your item a white background. A white background is the most requested type of photo editing. If you have not yet taken your product photos, remember to use a white background. White backgrounds look best on the web and in print. Don’t worry if the photos aren’t the right shade of white. Any professional photographer can quickly make white whiter. Feel free to contact me with any questions and a free quote.

I can remove a white background!

I can remove spots and scars leaving a subtle glow!

I can remove a background and ad a more creative one!

Do you need an ad for a printed newspaper or magazine? If you have a larger budget for your advertising needs, an ad in a newspaper or magazine is usually one of the steps you will be taking. I source the photos, edit them as needed and then combine them with your words or add my own to create an interesting advertisement readers will give their attention to. I have created ads for the web as well as events brochures, newspapers and magazines. My work has been seen in the LA TIMES and featured in the designer,s spotlight on iStockphoto.com. I can help you send your message to your potential clients and valued costumers.

So how does it work? Once you give me an idea of who you are, what the ad is for and who it’s aimed at, I start to develop a few ideas. I always start off with 2 or 3 ideas and once I’ve worked them a bit I send them your way to see what style you like best. I then start to work on the chosen design. You get what you pay for. Stock photography is one of the key elements in my ad designs. The price your willing to pay for your advert determines the quality of photos I can use in your project. If you are printing in the tens of thousands an additional extended license may be required for one or more of the photos used in your design. I only use photos that are legal to use for your project!

Any time you create a new ad, you should share it with your faithful clients as well as your potential ones.

Magazine Page Layouts

Magazine page layouts are one of my favorite projects to work on. I enjoy sourcing the images and information. I can run with your ideas or come up with my own to suit your publication needs. I utilize the world’s internet resources and can thoroughly research any topic from fashion to fish!

I desire to be apart of a high quality publication team. I am able to put together bespoke publications on my own. This would suit the needs of businesses and companies that need a magazine or brochure for their products or services.

I can work to your size specifications and provide you with any file specifications you need. Most magazines are saved in pdf but, if you need something else please feel free to ask. I can also meet your colour specifications. If you have a specific colour your project requires just let me know.

Press releases and competitions are a good way to get your business, product or brand into publications. I have experience writing press releases and competitions. My write ups appeared in MIZZ Magazine and Femail (Buxton) for Glint Gems. (both were accompanied by photos I took)

Font is frequently used synonymous with the term typeface, although they had clearly understood different meanings before the advent of digital typography and desktop publishing. Beginning in the 1980s, with the introduction of computer fonts, a broader definition for the term “font” evolved, because different sizes of a single style—separate fonts in metal type—are now generated from a single computer font because vector shapes can be scaled freely. There are thousands of typefaces to choose from It’s important to choose the right font.

From branding to layout, designers will tell you, using the right font is of the utmost importance. Make sure your graphic designer is a master at the art of type . . . The contrast of the font must match the design of the project. Words needs to breathe in a design in order to have maximum impact on the viewer.

I like to rely on classic and modern designs for many of my client’s projects. It’s important that concept is carried across all your brand communication. Using the same design for all your project helps to ensure a constant appearance with the finished projects. It’s possible to stand out without screaming. Keeping your designs modern and clean means you can use the same design longer as it is less likely to look dated in time.
