Create Master Inspection Characteristic - Quantitative

Definition:-

Inspection characteristic is the property of an item which needs to be inspected. It is defined at plant level. It contains control parameters like,

Whether individual result recording or summarized result recording

Optional characteristics or mandatory characteristics Option to record defect Text or note incase of rejection of the characteristic.

Inspection characteristics defined commonly across the plant and it will be used in the inspection plan.

Inspection method can be assigned to the inspection characteristics.

There are two types of inspection characteristics,

Qualitative Characteristics – During result recording, value are entered through selected set.

Quantitative characteristics – It will contain lower limit and upper limit of specification. During result recording measured value will be entered.

While creating the Master Inspection characteristics automatically version number will be assigned. However there is a control in the settings whether to make version number assignment automatically or to be assigned manually.

If the version assignment is automatic, whenever there is a change done to the inspection characteristics, automatically next version number will be assigned.

1. Press Twice on QS21 - Create

2. Maintain the following data:Field Name ValuesPlant Enter value in

Plant.

Master insp.charac.

Enter a name that reflects you master inspection characteristic

3. Press the Enter button.

4. Press the checkbox to the left of Quantitative charac. in the Control data area of the screen

5. Maintain the following data:Field Name ValuesStatus Enter value in Status by

selecting from dropdown menu. Example: Released

Short text Enter a description.Example: Density

Search field Enter a text that enables an easy search.Example: Density

6. Press on the Control Indicators button

Note: From the Quantitative characteristic window there are numerous options to choose from when creating a Master Inspection Characteristic. 7. Tag one or more of the following optional checkboxes:

Lower specif. limitUpper specif. limitCheck target value

8. Tag the Sampling procedure checkbox9. Tag the SPC characteristic checkbox only if SPC related!

10. Select the appropriate options and Press the Continue button

11. Tag the RR change docs checkbox12. Press the Docu. if rejected radio button.13. Press the Do not print radio button.

14. Press the Continue button

15. Press on the Quant. data button.

16. Maintain the following data:Field Name Values

Decimal places

Enter value in Decimal places.Example: 3

Msmt unit Enter value in Msmt unit.Example: g/cm3

Target value Enter value in Target value.Example: 0.918

Lower spec. lmt

Enter value in Lower spec. lmt.Example: 0.916

Upper Limit Enter value in Upper Limit.Example: 0.920

17. Press the Continue button

18. Press the Insp. methods button.

19. Maintain the following data:Field Name ValuesMethod Enter value in Method

field or select from dropdown menu.

20. Press the Check button to populate the data

21. Press the Continue button

22. Press the Save button.

23. The message bar displays “Characteristic xxxx xxxxxxxx was created”
