QinetiQ North America’s Q-GenTM 2.0 is a 1kW, single-man portable generator capable of operating on JP-8, the military’s “single fuel forward.”

Virtually every warfighter resource is powered by electricity; from cell phones, computers and communications systems to surveillance equipment and low-level lighting at forward operating base camps. In combat situations, access to electrical power is a major logistical challenge which can significantly impair the success of critical military operations. Q-Gen 2.0 is a single-man portable, 1kW, JP-8 fueled generator that provides immediate access to electrical power for military missions in austere and hostile environments.

According to the Defense Science Board’s task force on energy strategy, standard generators are the single largest users of fuel on the battlefield. Existing military generators are large, heavy and nearly impossible for an individual warfighter to carry, leaving expeditionary forces with limited options when operating in remote and austere environments. In addition, currently available military generators are designed to provide much more power than is typically needed by

individual warfighters or small combat teams, making them inefficient for mobile team mission requirements. Q-Gen 2.0 is the first and only single-man portable generator with the capability to start and run solely on JP-8 and other heavy fuels. Q-Gen 2.0 requires no additional logistical supply other than JP-8 fuel to operate, minimizing the burden on the warfighter.

Weighing just 39 pounds fully fueled, Q-Gen 2.0 is a lightweight power solution that can be transported by a single warfighter. It can be operated for over three hours on a single tank of JP-8 fuel providing up to 900W of continuous power. Q-Gen 2.0 has a low noise signature and can use fuel from multiple sources on the battlefield such as fuel stores, vehicles and equipment. It has been tested by warfighters in operational environments and is the elite, single-man portable generator of choice for small team power.
