Introduction to

Flowchart

•A flowchart is a type of diagram that represents an algorithm, workflow or process, showing the steps as boxes of various kinds, and their order by connecting them with arrows. This diagrammatic representation illustrates a solution model to a given problem. Flowcharts are used in analyzing, designing, documenting or managing a process or program in various fields.

There are various types of process flow charts….

•Macro flowchart,•Top-down flowchart,•Detailed flowchart (also called process map, micro map, service map, or symbolic flowchart),•Deployment flowchart (also called down-across or cross-functional flowchart),•Several-leveled flowchart.

When to use a flowchart?

•To develop understanding of how a process is done.•To study a process for improvement.•To communicate to others how a process is done.•When better communication is needed between people involved with the same process.•To document a process.•When planning a project.

One step in the process; the step is written inside the box. Usually, only one arrow goes out of the box.

Decision based on a question. The question is written in the diamond. More than one arrow goes out of the diamond, each one showing the direction the process takes for a given answer to the question. (Often the answers are “ yes” and “ no.”)

3 Trouble Spots during

Graduation Process

Page 12: Qcl 15-v4 challenge no. 2-institute of management, nirma university_krishan kant goyal (2)

The first problem that any one would face in college graduation process is the selection

round. Not all the candidates get selected in the selection round

The second problem that any candidate faces is of submissions and attendance. For

submissions of projects and assignments they have to work in groups and at times as

individuals.

The third problem that any candidate faces is of examination. It is not very easy to clear all the

examination in one go.

Learning…

Page 14: Qcl 15-v4 challenge no. 2-institute of management, nirma university_krishan kant goyal (2)

Flowcharts are very helpful to explain any complicated process in a very well structured manner.

Flowcharts can be easy interpreted by a layman and hence helps in understanding complicated process, very easily.

In order to show any process in a flowchart, proper step by step procedure needs to be very well discussed before hand.

Also in order to explain the process in clear way one need to try to complete flowchart in less steps, yet covering every aspects.

Also learned that there is bifurcation in flowcharts like macro flowcharts and micro flowcharts, and the significance of both the types.
