Factors Causing Bunking

Lectures - Pareto Diagram

Pareto Analysis is a formal technique where

many possible courses of action are

competing for attention. In essence, the

problem-solver estimates the benefit delivered

by each action, then selects a number of the

most effective actions that deliver a total

benefit reasonably close to the maximal

possible one.

What is Pareto Analysis ?

1.Form an explicit table listing the causes and their frequency as a

percentage.

2.Arrange the rows in the decreasing order of importance of the causes

(i.e., the most important cause first)

3.Add a cumulative percentage column to the table

4.Plot with causes on x- and cumulative percentage on y-axis

5.Join the above points to form a curve

6.Plot (on the same graph) a bar graph with causes on x- and percent

frequency on y-axis

7.Draw a line at 80% on y-axis parallel to x-axis. Then drop the line at the

point of intersection with the curve on x-axis. This point on the x-axis

separates the important causes (on the left) and trivial causes (on the

right)

8.Explicitly review the chart to ensure that at least 80% of the causes are

captured

Steps to identify the important

causes using 80/20 rule

•To avoid boring lectures.

•To hangout with friends.

•To attend coaching classes.

•For extra curricular

activities.

•To meet their Boy/Girl-friends.

•To have fun at the campus.

Top 6 reasons why

students bunk college

Everything from the curriculum,

to the professors, the teaching

methods and even the people

who attend classes are boring.

The age old theories and

management principles do not

interest students anymore. They

prefer bunking and having fun

rather than going through the

torture of attending long boring

lectures.

1. To Avoid Boring

Lectures

College means freedom,

while schools have strict

rules and lesser autonomy,

colleges are more liberal.

You can get away with not

attending lectures, and so

students bunk college with

friends to watch movies, eat

at the canteen, roam around

and have fun.

2. To Hang Out With

Friends

Bunking college to attend

coaching classes is a

popular trend these days.

Students prepare for

competitive exams for

further education, at the

cost of the degree they get

at college. To them, college

is just meant for passing the

semester and getting the

degree. And hence, they

bunk college to attend

coaching classes.

3. To Attend Coaching

Classes

Many students bunk college

to do something that interests

them more. It could be the

preparation for the annual

function, practicing their

favourite sport, arranging a

debate competition,

participating in inter-college

events, practicing dance or

any other art form. Creative

students find what they like

and bunk classes to do those

activities.

4. For Extra Curricular

Activities

Most people find their first

love in college. Having a

crush, secretly looking at

them, waiting for them to

initiate a conversation and

eventually falling in love

happens in college days.

And when that happens,

bunking classes to go out

for a coffee with your

partner becomes a routine.

5. To Meet Their

Boy/Girl-friends

Colleges usually have huge

campuses with canteen, library,

sports ground, auditorium and a

huge open area. The classes are

usually in the morning hours

and so students bunk to enjoy

the atmosphere and chill out at

the campus. Most college

memories are related to the

campus and time spent with

friends.

6. To Have Fun At The

Campus
