- WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PROJECT?

BLOGGINGA wide range of different technologies were used throughout the planning, researching, filming and editing stages in the making of our thriller. The first introduced technology piece was the media blog, having no previous experience with this blog I quickly had to learn the controls and gather an understanding of how I will construct and publish all future posts. All of these posts could contain a variety of different things such as videos and photos. As well as this the posts could form in several alternative ways such as a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, prezi document or a vlog which is video diary. To get my blogs to contain different things such as photos and videos it then meant I would have to know how to import and upload photos and videos as well as this sometimes I would of had to include links to various sources I have used too. This modern technology blogging method enables me to access my blog from a computer at home or my phone when I'm on the go, this meant there was no need for paper sheets and folders also it allowed me to be more flexible for when I blog as well.

THE INTERNET During the planning and researching stages of production the Internet was used regularly and is absolutely vital in gathering images and information along with videos that related to our thriller video. The website such as YouTube provided me with very useful and helpful information as it allowed me to gain key insight into thriller opening sequences and opening title scenes these helped me understand what sort of title I wanted on our film. The search engine Google also was very useful in proving images and information, these could be used on my blogs. I relied heavily on the Internet during the editing process as I also needed to find a suitable soundtrack which included music and sound effects for our thriller film. I had to sign up to a copy right free website for all of the sounds. I then had to upload the sounds on to an usb stick, so that I know that they were saved, this was an efficient method as a flexible way I can access the portable device when uploading it to the editing software.

EDITING SOFTWARE To create the best possible video overall we used the editing software Adobe Premiere Pro.  Previously beforehand I had absolutely no experience of using this software at all as I haven't had to do a project like this before except for on the prelim task I did earlier, but the time gap in between the two allowed me to forget a lot of what I had learned. This left me completely unaware of the basic controls and all the icons of what they did, therefore I knew it was going to be a struggle to start off with.  Despite the complete lack of experience it then allowed me to learn and pick up lots of new skills, Such as using the cropping tool to make clips less as long as well as putting transitions in so the whole thing flowed better and also to put in text so that we could have titles. Another tool I got to use was the clip duration alternator which allowed me to build tension by setting some of my clips to a slower speed. Throughout the project I consistently got better and better at developing my skills on this software, therefore this enabled me to create a final piece that I was pleased with, and now I know exactly how to use the software for when I need it for other projects.

SOUND EDITINGThe other side to premiere pro was the sound editing. After finding all of the sound effects and music as well as diegetic sound from multiple different copyright free sound sites on the Internet.  After finding everything I wanted to then save and import them to premiere pro. The cannon bang sound that is implemented at the start and throughout had to be heightened in volume as it overall was too low. The original sound that our video had from poor things such as the wind or muffled background noise had to be taken out which then premiere pro allowed me to easily remove them from the program. This whole process wasn't too hard to get to grips with after a while, I managed to pick it up easily and quickly to adapt the sound to the way we wanted it.

SHOOTING AND CAMERA

To record and shoot all of our footage we used a canon camera this wasn’t too difficult for me as I have a basic knowledge of cameras to start off with, this made it all uncomplicated and not difficult to understand. However during the start I had the slightest struggle in using the correct amount of zoom in or zoom out for each scene as well as this a struggle also came when trying to change the still image part of the camera to the recording part. During the first few shots and angles I specifically filmed each individual camera shot that we planned but after firstly filming them we then adapted them some were shaky therefore we decided to use a tripod to film on to get a really good non-moving picture. This made it less challenging to keep it steady. The playback button on the camera was greatly used as could re watch what we had just filmed this allowed us to change and adapt a load of different things and if we didn't think it needed changing then we could see to not re film it. The tripod also easily allowed me to tilt the picture to move with the characters when he moved which ended up being very smooth and blended in really well.

THE INDUSTRY

Projects such as this opening sequence can give students valuable knowledge and understanding of the film industry and the requirements needed to create an effective production. This also allows them to peak further into this industry and consider possibly trying to get some sort of job doing similar things.
