Fujifilm FX1 Digital Camera

Fujifilm is known as the world's largest photographic and imaging company, meaning their product range is boundless. The particular camera I used is recognised for it’s compact structure, teamed with the ability to capture photos with an incredibly high resolution.

I used this camera to produce the photographs within the front cover of my album, capturing the image of an attract female model and a deer’s head. These were later combined in Photoshop to produce a surreal appearance.

I chose to operate this particular camera on account of its high definition quality; owing to its 2.36 million dot resolution. It features many controls and large optical viewfinder. The brightness automatically adjusts to the scene but can also be set manually, which is what I did as it allowed me to manipulate the scene to match my desires.

The resolution made the photos of my product appear more realistic, creating verisimilitude between the still image, and actuality, overall creating a professional and sophisticated appearance.

Equipment

Canon DSLR 500DThis was used to shoot my entire music video. Much like my album cover, I wanted a video camera with a high definition quality to capture footage which likens to that of a professional standard, enforcing credibility. I believed this was successfully accomplished as almost all my footage was noticeably refined. I personally characterise a good camera by it’s ability to accurately depict each distinct hair of an individual, which was achieved in several shots, such as this one..

Equipment

Scanner

A scanner is an electronic device a device that scans documents and/or graphics and translates them into digital data. This technology was used to digitise the collage featured in my ancillary texts. It was effective in maintaining the resolution of my images and preserving the flatness, making the digitised copy appear more refined than it perhaps would if a digital camera was employed to do the task.

Equipment

Jessops Tripod

The purpose of a tripod is to support a camera during the course of filming.

I shot almost all my footage using this. It was very straightforward to use, hurrying the process. I wanted seemingly stable material to work with as I believe this appears more sophisticated than unsteady, hand-held footage. It was especially important when filming the shots that were responsible for the character transfiguration effect, particularly because the camera had to remain in exactly the same spot throughout, for the illusion to appear convincing.

I didn’t use it during one of my opening shots; however, as I wanted to add a degree of variety.

Equipment

Asus X200CA LaptopThis particular model is distinguished by it’s high performance, small scale and touch screen.

This is my own laptop that I used to produce all of my blogposts and edit my ancillary texts. I decided this due to its familiarity in terms of layout, programs etc. It’s also easily portable on account of its petite size. My laptop also contains many recourses in relation to graphics and previous work, so I could regularly refer to them, meaning I could manage my time and work efficiently throughout the course. I incorporated some of my previous graphic design recourses in my ancillary texts, specifically the collage and the image of the dear’s head.

Equipment

Iiyama Prolite X2377HDS

This is a 23” LED backlit LCD Screen featuring IPS Panel technology which is considered to be the most advanced panel type. I used a single edit suite to edit my entire video. It was simpler to work on one as it ensured all of my footage was stored in the same place so there was no risk of losing it.

It had a full high definition display, has a 5 000,000:1 Advanced Contrast Ratio and 250 cd/m² brightness, this was convenient as it provided a full a vivid expression of my footage.

Equipment

32GB SanDisk DSLR Memory Cards

A memory card refers to a small, flat flash drive used in tandem with digital cameras and mobile phones.

I used a total of two and these stored all the raw footage and images required for my music video and ancillary texts. It fitted both my laptop and my editing suite, therefore I could access my footage easily.

The memory size allowed me to film as much footage & take as many pictures to my heart’s content so I could perfect my shots.

Equipment

Studio Lighting

This was used when shooting in location 2 of my music video, the collage green room. generating an equalised white balance, taking exposure, tone and contrast into consideration. Consequently, it produced an effect which was innately pleasant to the eye of an audience perspective.

Equipment

Par Can Stage LightingA total of six were implemented within the performance footage of my music video, filmed at Fruit. These were to reinforce the live performance based spectacle, providing verisimilitude. However, in certain shots, the lighting caused an overbearing white balance, diminishing the facial features of my some cast members discouraging this authenticity. As seen on the image to the left.

Equipment

Google Chrome

Google Chrome is a freeware web browser developed by Google. Needless to say this program was significant throughout my entire project as the entire presentation of my work is web based. I also regularly used chrome within the research and planning stages to refer to existing products, editing tutorials etc.

Computer Programs

Adobe Photoshop CS6

Adobe Photoshop is the leading graphic editing and manipulation software on the market. It is operated by both the general public and by professional businesses.

I used Photoshop to construct my ancillary texts as this is a professional program, operated by certified graphic designers. The pictorial strategies I implemented in my ancillary texts are all methods which I have previously worked with throughout my AS & A2 Graphic Design course.

I chose to do this as it reflects my own artistic strengths and predilection, meaning my products exhibited an air of sophistication, due to my refined knowledge. The construction of my ancillary texts are displayed below.

Computer Programs

Adobe Premiere Pro is a video editing software application, centred on a timeline structure.

I edited my entire video on this program. It very much likens to Photoshop in terms of its tools and format, meaning I was somewhat in my comfort zone and didn’t have to adapt, dramatically. This program also contains endless amounts of effects, meaning my creativity could truly translate into my footage, reflecting my intention of demonstrating a psychedelic trance. Which I believe is evident within my video.

Adobe Premier ProComputer Programs

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is a graphical word processing program, it allows users to type and save documents. I used this program to transcribe my research and ideas, before posting on my blog. Microsoft Word’s ‘Spelling & Grammar’ checker proofread my work to an efficient degree and ensured that my thoughts were communicated thoroughly, so others could understand.

Computer Programs

Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is a complete presentation graphics package. It provides everything you need to produce a presentation with professional credit.

I was a presentation method for a great number of my blogposts. I enjoyed using this program on account of its straightforwardness, so I could work speedily, plus it doesn’t require the internet, meaning I could operate offline, if I needed to.

This program was used to create my storyboard animatic, as opposed to creating a hand rendered copy, as it was more time efficient. This was because I was able to copy and paste items and frames, rather than repeatedly drawing. Moreover, all the images were already contained on the computer, therefore there a scanner wasn’t required.

Computer Programs

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is a personal information manager. It is often used as an email application, however, it also contains a calendar, task manager, contact manager, note taking, journal, and web browsing – strengthening a user’s organisation.

This program was valuable when I wanted to contact the manager of my venue choice, Chris Birch (manager of Fruit). I was able to communicate with him, without any difficulty and this resulted in the inclusion of my desired venue.

Computer Programs

YouTube

Launched in May 2005, YouTube allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers large and small.

YouTube was imperative during my initial planning & research,, not to mention the creative aftermath. I originally used it view existing music videos, both by students and by established artists, allowing me to gain inspiration and open me up to many imaginative concepts. I gained most inspiration from Temples video 'Shelter Song’, in which they utilised a synergy of overlays, vibrant colour and assorted imagery to create an overall psychedelic impression. All these devices were inserted into my own work, accomplishing a similar ambiance. Additionally, Crystal Fighter’s video for ‘Follow’ was my prime incentive behind the character transfiguration within my piece. My YouTube channel documents my own creative development, revealing the expansion of my ideas between the formations my Storyboard Animatic and my finished product. As time progresses, one can observe the gradual desire of an abstract video with hordes of different editing approaches.

Websites

SlideShare

SlideShare is a Web 2.0 based slide hosting service. Users are able to upload files either privately or publicly an array of formats, including: PowerPoint, PDF &Keynote.

This website worked in association with some of my Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations. SlideShare essentially equates to a virtual slide file. It allowed me to structure my slides in a way that resembles an original PowerPoint presentation, as opposed to having loose slides which takes up a great deal of space.

Websites

Survey Monkey

SurveyMonkey is an online survey development cloud based company. It allows users to create customisable surveys, in addition to offering data analysis, sample selection, bias elimination, and data representation tools. On the free version of this website, however, the use of some tools are restricted.

This website was employed to initially collect data about my audience and their preferences, concerning music genre, music video content & design. This helped me to create a product which partially adhered to their collective responses, strengthening the overall appeal to a mass audience. I also used this program after the production of my video. to my measure overall customer satisfaction.

Websites

Wyke Media A2 Blog (www.wykemediageeks.blogspot.com)

This sight listed the blog addresses belonging to the entirety of the A2 media studies students. This sight allowed me to connect to the work of my peers, therefore I could truly understand what material to include on my own blog and how to lay it out.

Websites

PreziPrezi is a cloud-based presentation platform and storytelling tool for organising ideas on a “virtual canvas”. These can be presented privately or publically.

This sight was operated to present my lyric analysis. It’s a visually exciting way of presenting work, permitting you to store a vast amount of information onto one single canvas without it appearing chaotic.

Websites

EmazeSimilar to Prezi, Emaze is an online presentation software built on html5 technology. Users can create, manage and share their presentations through their cloud-based system.

I used this to present one of my blogposts relating to complications & means of overcoming them. It converted pretty uninspiring comments into a work of art through its attractive backdrops and animations, however, it was somewhat difficult to use meaning I wasn’t using my time effectively.

Websites

Facebook

Facebook is a widespread, free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and co-workers.

I used Facebook to contact my cast members, so they were informed about time schedules, modes of transport and what they were doing. I also used it to share my work so I could receive audience feedback and measure their engagement, and thus the overall effectiveness of my product.

Websites

YouTube Converter (www.youtube-mp3.org)

YouTube-mp3.org is the simplest online service for converting videos to mp3. An account isn’t necessary, the only requirement is a YouTube URL.

This was used to convert the YouTube video containing my song into a MP3 format, meaning it could be directly inserted into Premier Pro.

Websites

MusicmetricMusicmetric is a website that extracts actionable insight from the billions of global interactions across social media, mentions, sales, streaming and file sharing for tens of millions of artists, releases, tracks and videos. It allows it’s users to track as many artists their hear desires, in the world’s most powerful music analytics dashboard.I utilised this software during the research stages of process, in which I investigated the demographic of the band of my chosen song.
