Q3What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Page 2: Q3 re

Chosen InstitutionI feel my product would be best distributed by Bauer Media Group for the following reasons:• BMG are known for distributing very niche, stylized magazines such as

Kerrang! and Mojo with huge, but very particular audiences. My magazine is created for a very specific audience (which is not too unlike Kerrang!’s), so I feel they would already know many of the conventions required to best distribute my magazine to an appropriate audience. These include advertising techniques, knowing which shops to ship to and how to package/present the magazine on the shelf.

• The already dedicated audiences to BMG’s productions are huge, and may feel attracted to trying my magazine if they knew it was distributed by the same people.

• BMG’s sheer size ensures that they would already have links to many other businesses which could help me during production e.g. record labels, event organizers etc. if I needed special features in my magazine.

Other Considerations• Future Plc – Similarly known for distributing rock and guitar

magazines (e.g. formerly Guitar World and Revolver), I concluded that all of Future Plc’s distributions seemed to be aimed at older audiences whom my magazine is not. I thus decided that they were a poor choice as they may market my magazine to the wrong people and lose potential sales.

• Time Inc. – Famous for NME and Uncut, Time Inc. are a huge conglomerate with a knack for high production value distributions, but I feel that they might be a little too high class for Re/Verb. They also often deal with very wide genres such as pop and general rock, of which my target genre is not one.
