Q157 STAMPING Q 157 1960 USGS QUAD MAP OBSIDIAN CLIFF (1986) NGS PID PY0124 LATITUDE 44.850753625 LONGITUDE -110.736510172 ELEVATION 2221 m DATE OF DESCRIPTION 2002 DESCRIPTION Proceed about 10.8 miles south along the Mammoth Hot Springs-Norris Junction highway from the post office at Mammoth Hot Springs. Station is located at the signed “moose exhibit,” down the trail from the parking area, about 4 m northwest of the interpretive sign (behind you as you read the sign). The bench mark is set in the top of a large obsidian boulder which projects 2 1/2 feet above the ground, 177 feet southwest of the center line of the highway, 73 feet southwest of the center line of a curve in an asphalt parking area, 51 feet southwest of a stone retaining wall, about 5 1/2 feet below the top of the stone retaining wall, and about 8 feet below the level of the highway. Looking southeast at the bench mark (beneath orange hard hat), interpretive sign, and parking area. Looking west from the top of the path at the interpretive sign.
