Ease of Learning for Young Children

• Research shows that children are most receptive and more able to learn a language before the age of ten.

• Madeleine Nash, states in Time“The ability to learn a second language is highest between birth and the age of six.”

• Young children learn languages with great enthusiasm. They are willing to imitate the new sounds in a foreign language, to sing and play with it unlike older students who are more self conscious about pronunciation.

The Future of Foreign (Global) Language in Schools

“In an increasingly competitive and open world, the demand for language instruction in Chinese is rising, don't let your students miss out.” Barbara

Axelson, Administrator, November 2006

How would Hubbard students learn this language?

• In kindergarten children learn through singing and finger play with a limited writing.

• As students progress, they will learn the spoken word and eventually as we add a grade level to the program, they will have instruction in writing and conversation by the fifth grade.

• Children will study the culture with the Chinese language instructor and through use of the internet.

• Through distance learning our students will be able to make connections with their peers in China and other districts who teach Chinese.
