Hi all,Round two has been run and won and thanks again to Le Mans Go Kartsfor their ongoing support. The weather was good as was the racing withnice clean cars being put onto trailers and lots of happy faces, which iswhat we want to see.Nearly every other category had dramas of one sort or another so it is acredit to us all that we are able to race well all weekend. It was a bitannoying that we were last on the program and had some historic touringcars in with us, as for the time it was just our turn but if we want to have ourown races we need to turn up with a decent field. So if you have a race cargathering dust or your mate needs a hand to get his ready get cracking andcome and join the fun.

On that note, our next round is the Dallas Crane Challenge at Sandown onJuly 23rd and 24th so get your entries in ASAP. Also, entries are open forround 4 which is the Winton Festival of Speed, this is sure to be a big racemeeting and entries close on July 8th. The organisers have asked that weget our entries in so don’t leave it till the last minute.

At Sandown the scrutineers showed me a seat that was in a car involved incontact with the Armco, the seat had broken from its mounts and the backwas broken. On closer inspection the seat was a thin fiberglass shellcovered with a pretty cover, there was no reinforcing and the mounts wereonly bolted through the thin fiberglass and once the seat breaks free yourbelts become useless. It would appear that this seat was a cheap Chineseitem better suited to looking at than using in a race car. If tempted, don’tskimp on equipment like this in the scheme of things a good seat is not thatdear

I look forward to seeing you at Sandown.

CheersCarl McHenryPresident

Unfortunately for our last round at Sandown we were combined withthe Historic Touring cars and although both categories did a great jobof staying out of each other’s way, it’s always disappointing when thishappens. It’s not just our fault as we didn’t have the lowest entries for themeeting but if we are going to continue turning up with small grids thenthis sort of thing is going to continue happening.

Our next two rounds are both important meetings for us with the nextround at Sandown being the Dallas Crane Challenge and then we’reoff to Winton for the Festival of Speed. I’m sure our old mate Dallaswould be looking down disappointed with the small grids so let’s makesure we do him proud at his round. Also, the Winton Festival of SpeedPromoters will only keep us on the schedule if we turn up with a decentsize field, remember this meeting closes entries earlier that most tooso get on to it.

Getting back to Sandown congratulations must go to our newestmember Adam Lowndes. Not only did Adam get his licence at theFriday OLT he also competed in the race meeting and proved tostraight away be competitive, well done Adam.

Also Rod Raatjes, our secretary, is going on long service leave for afew months, so if anyone is interested in filling in for him for a littlewhile it would be much appreciated, I don’t think driving the number 33HQ comes with the job though.

See you all at Sandown for the Dallas Crane Challenge.

CheersAndrew McLeod

Round 2 – Sandown

Round 2 at Sandown was kindly sponsored by long time Club supporter, LeMans GoKarts and washeld over the weekend of May 21 & 22. Again, numbers were disappointing with only 16 HQ’s enteredfor the meeting and the Promoters deciding to have a mixed grid of HQ’s and Historics. We also welcomed new member Adam Lowndes who completed his OLT on the Friday for his first racemeeting with the HQ’s. We also saw the return of Ian Weekes for another blast around Sandown.Nick Germanos also arrived at Sandown with his freshly re-painted HQ looking absolutely fantastic.

Andrew McLeod took Pole Position in Saturday’s Qualifying session with a 1:34.7108, followed by RodRaatjes, David Tessari, Warren Trewin & Perry Bekkers, in the top five.

The 10 Lap Race 1 on Saturday afternoon started at 5:00pm and with daylight fading fast, peoplewondered if Sandown Raceway had been installing lights around the circuit in preparation. There weresome great battles throughout the field with Rod and Macca swapping the lead almost every lap,Warren and Dave Tessari also in a very close fight and Glen McDonald having a great tussle with PerryBekkers and Carl McHenry.

At the Chequered Flag, Andrew McLeod took the win from Rod, Warren Trewin, Dave Tessari, GlenMcDonald, Perry Bekkers, Carl McHenry, Tony Moloney, Mick Magilton and Adam Lowndes completingthe Top Ten. Great effort by Adam Lowndes to be in the top ten in his first ever HQ race. AndrewMagilton was the only unfortunate DNF.

Race 2 on Sunday morning, well early afternoon actually, was another cracker with battles throughoutthe field. It was Rod this time who managed to pip Macca over the line for the win with Warren in Third, followed by Dave Tessari, Carl McHenry, Perry Bekkers, Tony Moloney, Andrew Magilton and GrahamFrancis in the Top Ten. Adam Lowndes may have been pushing a little too hard in Race 2, coming offthe track and getting stuck in a sand trap. Glen McDonald also had issues, finishing in 13th place afterplacing 5th in Race 1. Richard Fairlam had Head Gasket issues and was a DNF.

The 9 Lap Race 3 on Sunday afternoon saw the usual early tussle between Rod and Macca with acouple of lead changes before Macca was able to make and hold a break. He ran away in the end, taking the Win from Rod, followed by Dave Tessari, Warren Trewin, Andrew Magilton, Perry Bekkers,Carl McHenry, Graham Francis, Tony Moloney, Mick Magilton, Richard Fairlam, Adam Lowndes, NickGermanos, Ian Weekes and Glen McDonald. Erin Thompson was the only DNF in the last race.

Congratulations to all the HQ competitors for fantastic racing throughout the field. No Red Flags andNo Safety Cars again.

Scrutineering

Round 3, 2015, at Sandown saw the implementation of a new Club Scrutineering regime and processwhich Laurie Griffin, our Club Scrutineer, is conducting. This will continue at all HQ Race Meetings witha number of different items being checked. The results are being documented by Laurie and submittedto the Committee during or after each race meeting.

Not all cars will receive the same checks at the same event but there will be consistency and fairnesswith regards to all vehicles being inspected for a number of Category regulations.

For those of you who were inspected at a race meeting and notified of any infringements, thosespecific points will be checked again at the next Round to ensure the required corrections have beenmade. Laurie has now been issued with a Triplicate Book so that you, the competitor, will be left with acopy specifying any areas requiring rectification prior to the next Round. The other option is that Lauriewill be documenting any compliance issues in your Log Book.

Depending on the severity of the infringements, Championship Points will be deducted and/or the Clubwill request that your car be prevented from running at the event. There are a number of areas ofconcern to Laurie and the Committee including fundamental compliance requirements like ‘SealSheets’. If you do not have Seal Sheets for the required components on your vehicle, don’t expect tobe racing. It is your responsibility to ensure you are carrying all your required documentation, as youdo with Licenses, Log Books, Helmets and Safety gear. No excuses.
