Dear Parishioners, This past Monday the children of our school took over our athletic fields for the once in a lifetime opportunity to view the solar eclipse. Most of their day was spent in preparation with science projects to help understand how this is all possible. As the shadow created by the moon darkened the grounds of the parish you heard the oooos and ahhs of the kids and their parents. The great part about a Catholic School is that we can then put all the events of Monday into the context of faith. How is this all possible? It is possible because of God’s love for us. The eclipse reminds us of that story in Genesis when God created the world and first said: “Let there be light, and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3) That light warms us and gives life to all. On Thursday we had the first of our Heritage Luncheons and welcomed 140 guests to our church hall. It was great to see so many of our older parishioners reconnect with many friends and fellow parishioners they have not seen for quite a while. One sure sign that it was a good time is that the church hall was full of lots of voices. Many thanks to the volunteers who prepared and served our lunch. Our next Heritage Luncheon will be Thursday, September 28th, beginning at 11:30 a.m. To RSVP please call the rectory. I would like to share with you some words from Our Holy Father from his most recent audience as he speaks of Christian hope: “Dear Brothers and Sisters: As we continue to explore the virtue of Christian hope, we discover in the final pages of the Bible that the ultimate destination of our Christian pilgrimage will be the heavenly Jerusalem. And on this pilgrimage we encounter the God of surprises who treats us with infinite tenderness, like a father welcoming his children home after a long and difficult journey. Even if many experience life as a prolonged period of suffering – think of the fearful faces of those haunted by violence and war – still there is a Father who weeps with infinite compassion for his children, and who waits to console them with a very different future. We believe that neither death nor hatred have the last word, for we Christians see, with great hope, a larger horizon: the Kingdom of God, where all evil is banished forever. It is Jesus Himself who is the light of this new future, and who even now accompanies us on our way. Creation did not stop on the sixth day of Genesis, because God is continually looking after us, always ready to pronounce his blessing: ‘Behold, I make all things new!’ Rev 21:5.” (Pope Francis I, General Audience, 8-23-17) Msgr. Breier

This past week, our Holy Haulers took on the task of moving the office of The Criminal Justice Ministry (CJM) of St. Louis, a unit of Catholic Charities. Twenty-two of our Vincentians answered the call. Prior to the move, several members made renovations to the new location. A special thanks to Bill Manz, AIA, PE of the parish for lending his engineering expertise.

Students in our Upper School readied their lockers for the first day.

We are pleased to welcome Mary Turek Schanuel back to Queen of All Saints, serving as Teacher’s Aide in Ms. Shrum’s kindergarten class. Mrs. Turek Schanuel has over 28 years teaching experience in Catholic and public schools. She taught 4th and 6th Grades at QAS a total of twelve years before accepting a position at Special School District where she has been an early childhood teacher the past ten years. She has a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education and certifications in Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, and 4th-8th Grade Social Studies. She has two adult children, a son and a daughter, who are very much a part of her life. She is very excited to be returning to Queen of All Saints and Catholic education! “Teaching is a calling for me. What I love about teaching is paying attention to what students need, what their challenges are, how they learn best, and giving them tools they need to help them succeed. What a joy!” Please join us in welcoming her back to Queen of All Saints!

We are pleased to welcome Terese Johnson to our preschool team, teaching our new PK3 class. Mrs. Johnson brings twelve years of experience in the Rockwood School District, teaching first-third grades, serving as a camp counselor, and most recently as a certified Parent Educator in their Parents as

Teachers Program. She has both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Elementary Education and is certified in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She and her husband have a one-year-old son, and she enjoys water skiing and spending time with family. “I love watching children learn and discover new things for the first time. Watching a student grow over the course of a school year is exciting and rewarding. I truly enjoy being in the classroom!” Mrs. Johnson is very excited to begin teaching in a Catholic school where she can share her faith with students, their families, and colleagues! Please join us in welcoming her to

Many Protestants overlook the importance of Matthew 16:18 and do not understand that it is the most prominent passage in which Christ establishes a hierarchy within the Church with Peter as its first leader. Memorize Matthew 16:18. It is a verse that all Catholics should know and be able to respond with when someone says that the Bible doesn’t men-tion anything about having a pope. Because of this confession of Christ as the Son of the living God, Christ chose Peter to be the rock upon which He would build His church. Here we are 20 centuries later, and the gates of hell have not prevailed against it. Christ chose an ordinary, flawed, unqualified in-dividual to lead the Church. Peter would be the first among many popes.
