Julia Butterfly was born on February 18, 1974, and is an American environmental activist. Julia lived two years in the top of a tree more than 100 feet high and about
1500 years old, which she called "Luna." This extraordinary act of courage prevented the Pacific Lumber Company razed a forest of 60,000 hectares
which houses ancient redwoods in northern California.
History
I imagine Julia, day and night, up on high, watching everything that happens below and above. I see her transformed into a bird, an owl, raw, in fruit, molten Moon, living near the night and the stars and the full
moon.

Art work Statement
One night, during a raging storm, Julia was about to fall from the tree where she was climbing. When he was close to giving up and falling from more than 100 meters high, she heard what was later called "the
voice of Luna", saying that "only the rigid branches are broken, the flexible survive."
Completely abandoned Julia stopped fighting against the forces of
nature, and following the advice heard approached youngest branches where he remained until the storm ended.
Regarding his relationship with animals, she tells us that insects were
your greatest teachers. In early bites suffered all kinds of spiders, wasps, bees and ants. Once, when a spider fell on his head told Julia, "I realized that day that spiders are an integral part of the forest, and have a higher
purpose than mine to be here. At the time left from "bothering".
Art work Statement
As an artist I am always trying new techniques and ways to express myself. The pyrography has been a
medium that has allowed me to draw, give relief and woodworking, while I connect with this ancient
tradition which dates from the origin of man.
Personally, I bet by the pyrography as the means to project my images, using the genres that characterize
and represent me: Expressionism, Surrealism and Magic Realism.
Artist statement
Pyrography has been practiced by many cultures
including the Egyptians and some African tribes since the beginning of time. This technique dates back to
prehistoric times when early humans created designs using the remains of the fire hot. In China, during the
Han Dynasty this method known as "embroidery needles of fire." Thus, the ancient technique of
pyrography is considered a traditional legacy that employs the use of heat to burn on different surfaces
such as paper, cardboard or wood.
The technique
I was born in New York on March 26, 1974 and I am
naturalized Mexican. Start my art studies at twelve years of age with music classes in Mexico City.
In 1988, as filing in Mexicali, I joined the art workshop at the Institute of Fine Arts of the State of Baja California, with the teacher Ruben Garcia Benavides, and participated in my first exhibition collective plastic.
In 1997, I was selected in University Plastic Biennale that year and began working as a costume designer for theater and dance companies Mexicali.

As a costume designer, in 1998 was a beneficiary of the
stimulus PECDA, with the project "Mobile Scenic Design" to professionalize my studies in fashion design at the School of
Design of Baja California where I graduated in 2000.
That same year, I was awarded a scholarship by the school to attend design school in Velez-Per Madrid Spain to study
design.
In 2000 I joined the plant teachers of the School of Design of Baja California, as a teacher of design and illustration
techniques.

In 1999 I won the 5th place in illustration, 300 designers in the country, at the conference "International Fashion View"
in Mexico City.
Also in Mexico City, I was invited by the Ballet Modern Mexico, to design and make a costume for the company.
In 2007, I was invited by the Cultural Institute of Baja California, to be part of the table Judging PACMYC stimuli.

design at the University Xochicalco, in the gallery Jose Garcia Arroyo, in Comunity Center, De Anza Junior
High School in Calexico California, and was invited by the ICBC to provide artistic workshops in the communities in Oaxaca San children Quintin,
Ensenada, And Throughout my career, I've developed as a multidisciplinary artist and teacher, gaining
recognition and career in the visual arts, dance, design and music
