Good morning, A week full of visitors this week. On Tuesday we were joined by three professors from Japan. We have over the last few years built a strong relationship with the Japanese university professors who are engaged in global educational policy and curriculum design. Usually twice a year, the Japanese government funds a visit for them and they spend a day with us conducting research on the British education system and reform. It is always fascinating to discuss the differences between the two systems and how we both compete in the Pisa (Programme for International Student Assessment) tables which provide a global measure on the quality of education; sadly the DfE haven't been offering to fund a return visit! We have also been joined this week by a number of visiting student teachers who have been engaged in teaching and learning activities around the school, as well as senior leaders who have been keen to see how things operate in Pyrford. We have received very good feedback about the quality of written work in books, alongside feedback and marking. I was fortunate enough this week to be part of the recruitment process for the new HT at BDB school. As the education system moves to a self improving, school led system, it is vital that we work in close partnership with other schools. I was able to meet all the candidates and had the opportunity to spend half an hour with each of them discussing partnership working across all sectors of education. I felt exhausted just interviewing for a few hours, so goodness knows how they must have felt after 2 days of grilling! It has been good to see the turnout for parents evening with well over 95% attendance. As I keep saying, it is vital that parents engage in their children's education. I will be contacting those of you who have not made an appointment directly. Parents evening are a limited time, so please do feel free to contact the school office at any time should you wish to discuss anything with your child's class teacher and they will be happy to meet with you. I have, alongside the office staff and Education Welfare Officer, been monitoring attendance closely and holidays taken during term time are an issue. I have received requests in double figures over the last two weeks for time off during term time to look after sick relatives. Whilst I appreciate that family is of utmost importance to us all and understand that there are times when we all genuinely have family emergencies, I am finding it difficult to authorise any attendance with family emergencies which have happened, yet where absence requests are not for another two weeks and sit just before or after the Easter holidays. The Education Welfare Officer will be choosing which cases to follow up. There are also a number of children with broken weeks. If you are a Monday or Friday offender, we expect you in school five days per week, every week. The children are busy enjoying an Engage assembly as I type. Each term, the Engage team in Surrey visit the school and deliver a Christian based assembly which the children thoroughly enjoy participating in. The best news to report this week is that Mrs Pollard is a proud new mummy to Evie Jennifer Pollard, born on Wednesday 8th March, weighing 6lb 9oz. Mum and baby are doing well. Next week remains busy as always - Year 5 are off to Fairthorne Manor from Tuesday to Friday which I know is just fantastic fun. Year 2 are also out for the day visiting Brooklands Museum and governors are also in school looking at how we teach Literacy so lots to keep us on our toes. Wishing you all a good weekend. Good morning,

A week full of visitors this week. On Tuesday we were joined by three professors from Japan. We

have over the last few years built a strong relationship with the Japanese university professors who are engaged in global educational policy and curriculum design. Usually twice a year, the Japanese

government funds a visit for them and they spend a day with us conducting research on the British education system and reform. It is always fascinating to discuss the differences between the two

systems and how we both compete in the Pisa (Programme for International Student Assessment) tables which provide a global measure on the quality of education; sadly the DfE haven't been offering to fund a return visit!

We have also been joined this week by a number of visiting student teachers who have been

engaged in teaching and learning activities around the school, as well as senior leaders who have been keen to see how things operate in Pyrford. We have received very good feedback about the

quality of written work in books, alongside feedback and marking.

I was fortunate enough this week to be part of the recruitment process for the new HT at BDB school. As the education system moves to a self improving, school led system, it is vital that we

work in close partnership with other schools. I was able to meet all the candidates and had the opportunity to spend half an hour with each of them discussing partnership working across all

sectors of education. I felt exhausted just interviewing for a few hours, so goodness knows how they must have felt after 2 days of grilling!

It has been good to see the turnout for parents evening with well over 95% attendance. As I keep

saying, it is vital that parents engage in their children's education. I will be contacting those of you who have not made an appointment directly. Parents evening are a limited time, so please do feel free to contact the school office at any time should you wish to discuss anything with your child's

class teacher and they will be happy to meet with you.

I have, alongside the office staff and Education Welfare Officer, been monitoring attendance closely and holidays taken during term time are an issue. I have received requests in double figures over the

last two weeks for time off during term time to look after sick relatives. Whilst I appreciate that family is of utmost importance to us all and understand that there are times when we all genuinely

have family emergencies, I am finding it difficult to authorise any attendance with family emergencies which have happened, yet where absence requests are not for another two weeks and sit just

before or after the Easter holidays. The Education Welfare Officer will be choosing which cases to follow up. There are also a number of children with broken weeks. If you are a Monday or Friday

offender, we expect you in school five days per week, every week.

The children are busy enjoying an Engage assembly as I type. Each term, the Engage team in Surrey visit the school and deliver a Christian based assembly which the children thoroughly enjoy

participating in. The best news to report this week is that Mrs Pollard is a proud new

mummy to Evie Jennifer Pollard, born on Wednesday 8th March, weighing 6lb 9oz. Mum and baby are doing well.

Next week remains busy as always - Year 5 are off to Fairthorne Manor

from Tuesday to Friday which I know is just fantastic fun. Year 2 are also out for the day visiting Brooklands Museum and governors are also in

school looking at how we teach Literacy so lots to keep us on our toes.

Wishing you all a good weekend.

  • WASPS Woking Schools Cross Country Champs 2017 - HEROES, ONE AND ALL!

We took an enormous team of 31 children in Years 3-6 to Goldsworth Park for the very exciting Woking Primaries

    Cross Country Champs 2017.

Our Y3/4 girls kicked things off with an extraordinary team performance. We were in the leading pack from the

off and 4 of our 8 runners finished in the top 11 out of over 100 entries. Charlotte Wass was our first Pyrford

finisher in an amazing 4th place. Hot on her heels were Cicely Moller-Butcher, Alice Clark, Sophie Wass, Eleanor

Povey, Ava Mantell and Taylor Goodrich. Great running girls!

Y3/4 boys faced much more rough and tumble for their run but they refused to give in and all finished the 1.8km

course proudly with muddy legs and big smiles. Well done to Alfie Walker who finished first for Pyrford in 35th

place, along with Tom Purnell (only Y3 so an especially brave performance), Nate Hurles, Billy Lambert, Benji

Broadhead, Hayden Cassidy, James Cobbett and Freddie Moller-Butcher.

Pyrford’s Y5/6 girls were very determined and ran like dynamite. Lois Wong (only in Y5), giving her all, finished in

an incredible 9th place. Following in her path with equal guts and determination were Rania Zareen, Charlotte

Lambert, Poppy Davies, Katherine Sumner, Emily Cobbett, Mia Hunnisett and Larissa Johnston.

Y5/6 boys closed the event and they did not

disappoint! Edward Broadhead (also only in

Y5) ran like the wind, finishing in an amazing

10th place. Chasing Edward were proud

    Pyrford finishers: Daniel Krikorian, Tom

    Giddings, Christian Moller-Butcher, Andrew

Elbourn, Tom Bunyan, Olly Mantell and Callum

    Gay.

Every one of our children behaved admirably,

supported each other generously and ran

enthusiastically. We coaches and parents were

proud beyond measure. Thank you to all the

parents for support in so many different ways.

    What a team!

We have a number of cases of Slapped Cheek virus in school at the moment. The initial

symptoms are a slightly high temperature, runny nose, sore throat, headache, upset stomach

and generally feeling unwell (although some children won’t get any/all these symptoms).

After a few days, a distinctive bright red rash on both cheeks normally appears. By the time

this rash develops, the condition is no longer contagious and, unless your child is feeling

unwell, there is no need to keep them off school. After another few days, a light pink rash may also appear on the

chest, stomach, arms and thighs. This often has a raised, lace-like appearance and may be itchy.

And please remember if your child has diarrhoea or vomits, they must be kept off school for 48 hours after the last

    episode.

  • “Giving every child such an amazing experience they can’t wait to come

    back!”

At Barracudas we run activity day camps in the Easter and summer holidays,

offering 80+ FUN and EXCITING activities, including sports, arts & crafts, dra-

ma, dance and swimming. On top of that, we also have motor sports, ar-

chery and fencing, as well as our fantastic roaming activities, including a rodeo bull, bungee run and criss-cross zorbing, all at

great value for money! What’s more, we also have our Skills Builder Courses, Motor Mania, Swim School, Lab Rats and Up-

stage, where children can develop their skills across the week.

We cater for children aged 4½ to 14 years old, and our standard hours are 8.30am- 5.30pm. These hours can be extended with

our Early and Late Clubs from 8am- 6pm for just £3 per session, keeping your children entertained all day.

We are Ofsted registered, and have been awarded OUTSTANDING more times and more consistently than any comparable

    provider!

If you have any questions, or want to know more about our camps, please visit our website www.barracudas.co.uk or call our

    team on 0845 123 5299.

Great news - we’ve raised £1496 through the Local

Community Fund so far, and Co-op members are

adding to our total every time they buy selected Co-

op brand products from our stores.

We’ve still got a few weeks to go so if you’re a

member and haven’t yet chosen the school as your

good cause, please do - or do join if you’re not

already a member - you can do this in store on

    online http://www.coop.co.uk/membership/

All the money raised from the Fund will go towards

    playground facilities.

But we need your help. The more support we get,

the more funding we could receive. So if you're a

Co-op Member log in to your Co-op Membership

account and choose us. If you're not a member,

    please join and support us!
