Pyramid Hill Movember!
Guess who’s doing Movember this year? Wouldn’t it be awesome to get the whole of Pyramid Hill community involved!
The Movember foundation addresses some of the biggest health issues faced by men; prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health & suicide prevention. The money raised by Movember funds vital men’s health projects.
So fellas we’d love to see your moustaches!
But it’s not just for the MoBro’s but MoSistas as well!! You can sign up to walk/run 60km’s over the month of November! There will be a shave off at the Victoria Hotel (date to come), so stay tuned for more information!
In the meantime you can head over to the Movember page and sign up and join the Pyramid Hill group https://moteam.co/pyramid-hill3575 (or follow the link on the PyramidHill3575 facebook page to join the Pyramid Hill3575 group)!
We already have some Mobros signed up!!
If you would like help to sign up contact Matt or Emma at Miller’s Ag!
Where It All Started
Back in 2003, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, were having a beer and discussing past fashion trends when the topic of moustaches came up. They joked about bringing the ‘stache’ back into trend. Inspired by their friends mum, who was fundraising for breast cancer, the two mates decided to make their campaign about men’s health & prostate cancer. They then made up the rules of Movember, which are still in place today, and agreed to charge men $10 to grow a mo, talking 30 of their mates to give it a go. The idea for Movember was born!
With 30 guys signing up to participate in the first year, Movember has grown like a sailors moustache and has become a world wide fundraiser for men’s health. In they 15 years that Movember has been running they have funded more than 1,200 men's health projects all around the world, an astonishing 5,542,507 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas have joined in since 2003 as well as The Movember Foundation being ranked 49th out of the top 500 non-governmental-organisations around the world. Movember has reached millions of people from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, UK, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.
Movember's success can largely be attributed to the strength of the global community. Regardless of the city in which we live, we're part of something bigger, united by a commitment to help change the face of men’s health.
Sign up now and help us help men’s health by letting that Mo Grow!

MAYORAL COLUMN
Drought Preparedness And Support Welcomed
Loddon Shire Council has welcomed the announcement by
Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford of a $25 million
drought preparedness and support package for farming
communities in Northern Victoria. The package also supports
families in East and Central Gippsland, and includes targeted
support for mental health, small business planning and
support for parents in farming communities to manage the
cost of living pressures.
There is more than $2 million for mental health and wellbeing
services, with $180,000 funding dedicated to the National
Centre for Farmer Health to deliver health checks to farmers.
Northern Victorian farmers will also be able to apply to the
Drought Infrastructure Grant Program which has had an $11.8
million boost.
There is also $1 million to provide expert technical and
business support to help farmers make early decisions around
farm management, including animal health, feed budgeting
and land management. Additionally, the drought assistance
package includes $1 million for wild pest and animal control
programs.
Neighbourhood Safer Places
At its meeting on 23 October, Council adopted the most
recent Loddon Shire Council Neighbourhood Safer Places
Plan – September 2018, following an annual inspection by the
CFA of current Neighbourhood Safer Places (NSPs).
The plan includes and confirms designated NSPs within our
municipality in the townships of Boort, Bridgewater,
Inglewood, Pyramid Hill, Serpentine and Wedderburn.
Neighbourhood Safer Places are located at:
Boort – Recreation Reserve, oval only.
Bridgewater – Memorial Hall, grounds only.
Inglewood – J Sloan Park Playground, between swimming
pool and tennis courts.
Pyramid Hill – Mitchell Park Recreation Reserve, oval only.
Serpentine – Recreation Reserve, Janiember Park, oval only.
Wedderburn – Donaldson Park, oval area only.
NSPs are places of last resort when personal bushfire survival
plans cannot be implemented or have failed. They are not
community fire refuges or emergency relief centres. They do
not replace any planning you have in place to respond to a fire
nor a response to emergency alerts – including evacuation
warnings.
I urge our community to visit the CFA website
to find out more about NSPs at:

Work Experience 2018
My name is Haydyn Clough.
I did my work experience at Boort Tyre
Service.
My boss’s name was Cleo Lanyon and
my Supervisor was Luke.
These are the main tasks I did wheel
alignments, services and changing
tyres.
Working here made me feel inspired to
continue in this field.
My favourite part of work experience
was seeing what working in a garage is
like.
The things I learnt were how to fit tyres
and how to do wheel alignments.
I’d like to thank my boss for giving me
the chance to do this and teaching me
these skills.
In the future I see myself working as a mechanic in the Army maybe.
My name is Keeley Forster.
I did work experience at the Bendigo Animal Hospital.
My boss’s name was Sue Harvey.
These are the tasks I did watching surgeries, cleaning cages and washing kits.
Working here made me feel like I was welcome and that working in the veterinary industry
is a possible career path.
My favourite part of work experience was watching all of the surgeries and seeing how
they take care of the animals.
The thing I learnt were how to clean cages and wash kits.
I’d like to thank my boss for allowing me to do work experience there and showing me
how the vet industry works.
In the future I see myself working as a vet or an engineer.

Pyramid Hill Lawn Bowling Club News
60 & Over
It was a glorious day, and in particular a glorious day for bowls as Pyramid Hill played host to the 60 & Over Bowlers last Thursday.
The greens and surrounds looked immaculate thanks to the hard work of the guys in charge and the sandwiches were soft and
colourful. The scene was set for a pearler of a day. Unfortunately, a few teams had to withdraw due to other commitments and our
guys withdrew to formulate even numbers for the competition. All else was smooth sailing. Well done to all involved. It was nice to
hear positive comments about how well the greens were running, and, with no wind to whinge about, everyone was in good spirits. I
can’t say who the winners and runners-up were but I believe they each went home with a dead chook. So to our guys who denied
themselves the opportunity here is a thought to ponder: They say we learn from our mistakes so I am making as many as possible.
I’ll soon be a genius!
Midweek Pennant
A better effort this week all round. We were not totally clean-sheeted. It was the Friday factor at work again and sadly the idyllic
conditions of the previous day gave way to gusty winds once more.
Division 1 played Cohuna Golf who were buoyed by the inclusion of some top gentlemen bowlers. Given the calibre of the
opposition our team did a pretty good job to restrict the losing margin to just 10 shots. It was a day of tens. Two rinks lost by ten,
one rink won by ten and the margin overall was ten. Marie S., Jan, Tony and Graham lost 15-25. Glenys, Kate, Ray and Lorraine F.
lost 17-27. Marg L’H, Nola, Robyn and Jeanette were the grinning winners with a 27-17 score and the Incentive Award. Overall
Cohuna Golf totalled 69-59 but you would have to read the team sheets to recognize the heavy artillery our side was up against.
Division 2 travelled to Barham Sports with depleted numbers resulting in the inclusion of a Sub. Dawn, Jenny L. (sub), Glen and
Beth did very well to register a win 25-15 but missed the Incentive Award as their score was not as great as that achieved by Marg’s
crew. Jenny, Rose, Joe and George lost 14-40 which resulted in Barham Sports taking the overall tally to 55- 39.
Next week we close off the month of October with Division 1 playing Barham Sports and Division 2 playing Barham Services. Both
matches are played at home.
Saturday Pennant
This week both Divisions 1 & 3 travelled to Kerang Golf and were confronted with very fast greens and very strong gusty winds, not
a good combination for bowling. Even some of the home Club members were complaining that the greens were too quick.
Division 1 took a while to adjust to the pace of the greens and their opponents were savvy enough to throw short ends so it was a
pretty tough challenge until they could find touch. The game eventually turned into a mighty battle as the Pyramid Hill folk pegged
back their deficit. Beau, Marie S., Nola and Graham took on the role of “nice guys” this week as they worked hard to get to the
front. Their final score 21-21 had fate written all over it when one of Marie’s bowls, which had been perfectly delivered and was
heading right on track for shot, was stopped in its tracks by an errant golf ball. Lionel, Kate, Jean and Lorraine were so nearly
winners 24-26, while Fred, Glenys, Ray and Bill were just 8 shots short. The 63-73 final tally was a good effort and Kerang Golf had
to work hard for their win.
Division 3 had a day of ups and downs. Lorraine D., Wayne, Carmen and George found the fast greens and gusty winds too big a
challenge and suffered a 14-31 loss. Robyn, Allan, Rose and Wayde were going along nicely until they did a big number one end
which upset their equilibrium (17-25). For consecutive weeks full accolades go to Charlie, Jan, Deanne and Joe who were they only
ones to progress the Premiership points for the Hill. Their score 25-20 helped them notched up yet another Incentive Award. Well
done, Charlie and crew. Final tally was 56-76 not in favour of the Hill.
Next week both Divisions play at home with Division 1 playing Kerang and Division 3 playing Kerang White.
Tournament
The A/C Triples Tournament held last Sunday afternoon was a great success. Fourteen teams took to the greens to vie for some great
prizes donated by M.G.R. Accountants, Golden Rivers Real Estate and Miller’s Ag. Thank you very much to the sponsors, we could
not operate without your support. Several local groups including the Pyramid Hill Newsagency and the Coffee Bank also donated
prizes for the raffle. Thank you, also. Winners on the day were Kerry Ballard’s team from Cohuna Golf. Runners Up were Rodney
Wickham’s team from Lake Boga and third prize went to Bill Toll’s team from Echuca. A big thank you to the catering ladies who
put on a magnificent spread for afternoon tea and then cooked up a tantalizing bbq at the end of proceedings.
Our next big effort is on November 11th, is a Star Fours Day starting at 10:30am so again it will require all hands on deck.

Snake Eats Snake
This is a snake yarn, and comes from Yarrawalla, so it is
true. Mr. T. B. Hercus, whilst irrigating, trod closely to a
snake, and a stab made with a shovel missed, and the
reptile made a quick disappearance into a hole in the
ground close by. He dug it out and dispatched it with a
deep gash below the head, and as it was a particularly
plump looking snake. Mr. Hercus took it home, but
whether to present it to his wife to roast, or preserve, we
are not informed. Anyway, all at home admired it and
thought it a bonza snake, but some one's keen eyes
detected in the deep gash what seemed to be the tail of
another snake, and sure enough it was so. So someone
laid hold of the tail of the bonza snake, and another the
tail of the hidden snake, and out came the inside one,
which was three feet long and an inch thick, with its
head partly digested.
If Mr. Hercus now appears to have a worried look, don't
think it is because wheat is being docked 9d a bushel, or
the basic wage should be lowered more than 10 per cent
he is evidently trying to think out the problem of the
hidden snake, and by what means a four-foot sizer
persuaded a three-foot-sizer brother (they were both
of the brown species) to come inside. And so are we.
