Pioneering VLABS Development Team at PVG’s COET, Pune

Regional Activities

1] State Level Virtual Lab Faculty Orientation Workshop: Mr Puspdeep Mishra-Project

Manager-VLABS-IIT Bombay, Mrs Anita Diwakar, Mr jai Mathur, Prof Mrs Tanuja Khatavkar

& Prof Manish Nagoshe were invited as resource persons for Faculty Devlopment Program at

State Level in coordination with IIT Bombay: MSBTE sponsored CUTP on Adoption of VLAB

for Polytechnic at Vidya Prasarak Mandal’s Polytechnic, Thane during 8th Jan to 12th Jan 2018.

2] 1st National Boot Camp on Virtual Lab Development: Mr Puspdeep Mishra, Mrs Anita

Diwakar, Mr jai Mathur , Prof Mrs Tanuja Khatavkar & Prof Manish Nagoshe were invited as

resource persons for 1st National Boot Camp at Marwadi University, Rajkot, in coordination with

IIT Bombay & supported by GUJCOST (Gujarat Council of Science & Technology) Gujarat

between 5th Feb to 9th Feb 2018. Around 100 faculty and students participated in the boot camp.

Mr Parth Parikh & Ms Khushboo Mundada of PVG’s COET, delivered session on mindmap and

storyboarding via skype, for the workshop participants.

1st National Boot Camp on Virtual Lab Development in the Country

The boot camp received overwhelming response from Marwadi University, Rajkot, Gujarat

University, Gujarat Technical University, Mumbai, Sangali, Aurangabad, Ahemedabad, Indore

and Panipat. Mr Sanjeet & Mr Ashish from participating Institutes (PI)- IIT Delhi also attended

and monitored the bootcamp.

3] Community Help in developing virtual labs: Online mode of Teaching to Marwadi

University students and faculty after the bootcamp by Prof M C Nagoshe, and students from

PVG’s COET: Ms Pranali Kulkarni, Parth Parikh, Ms Khushboo Mundada, Ms Apoorva Kadam.

4] a. Student Internship on Virtual Lab outreach portal design: Prof Nagoshe and Mr

Pushpdeep with the students of PVG’s COET worked on the IITB outreach portal design: Parth

Parikh, Ms Khushboo Mundada, Akash Rasal, Shaunak Umarkhedi, Ms Apoorva Kadam and

Kaivalya Banot from PVG’s COET were certified as interns by IIT Bombay for the period

between 27th June to 18th Sept 2018.

4] b. Mentorship to Interns: Students from Bhavnagar, Nagpur, Shegaon and Aurangabad

region worked on the VLABS-Dev portal as Interns of IIT Bombay. These students presented

their work and sought guidelines and feedback from the Evaluation Team: Mr Pushpdeep

Mishra, Mr Jai Mathur(Research Asst.-IITB), Prof Tanuja Khatavkar, Prof Minal Apsangi &

Prof Urmila Kalshetti. Parth, Khushboo, Apoorva, Akash and Shaunak from PVG’s COET

helped the students to debug the same. Pushpdeep Mishra visited PVG’s COET for the VLAB

project development on 30th June and also on 2nd July with the interns for the vlabs-dev project

completion.

5] Virtual Lab Rollout: Outreach Workshops to popularize Virtual Labs in the region: About 99

students from BCS & MCS level from College of Science, Pune performed 1455 virtual

experiments during the workshop conducted on 15th & 17th of Oct 2018. Prof M R Apsangi

(Nodal Coord-PVG’s COET) & Prof U M Kalshetti (Nodal Tech. Coord-PVG’s COET) along

with Prof Tanuja Khatavkar and Prof Manish Nagoshe worked as resource persons for the

workshop.

6] Help IITB in identifying potential Nodal Centres: Around 28 faculties from various

disciplines of Dyanshree Institute of Engineering & Technolgy, Sajjangad, Satara performed 222

virtual experiments during the Faculty Orientation workshop on 1st Dec 2018. The institute is

located in a very remote area on the hills of Sahyadri. Mr Pushpdeep Mishra was invited to

address the faculty on virtual labs project. Hands-on session on virtual labs by resource persons:

Prof Tanuja Khatavkar, Prof Manish Nagoshe and Prof U M Kalshetti were conducted smoothly.

DIET, Satara showed their interest in being a nodal centre in the forthcoming year.

7] Odd Semester Planner from 17 nodal centres for the year 2018-19 was submitted to

IITB.

8] Communication with Nodal Centres: Monthly follow up and help Nodal Centres to utilize

virtual labs to reach the targets & submission of monthly regional centre reports and a close

follow up for the annual report submission was taken regularly.

9] Communication with IITB: Regular updates regarding nodal centre issues, rollout,

development, and portal design suggestions, and a perfect interface between NCs and IIT

Bombay is carried out efficiently by the regional coordinator.

10] Identifying new nodal centres: Working on identifying potential nodal centres in the region

of Satara, Solapur, Ratnagiri and Karnataka, with a regular follow up and communication of

updates to IITB. DIET, Satara, remotely located institute seems to be a promising centre for

rollout of virtual labs to the grass root level.

11] a. IITB Meetings: On 28th Feb 2018, a meeting was held at IIT Bombay 1st National Boot

camp review and planning for the next Boot camp. Principal Investigator Prof Dr Noronha, Mr

Pushpdeep Mishra, Prof Dr Nitin Bhate (Regional Coord-MSU, Baroda), Prof Mrs Tanuja

Khatavkar & Prof M C Nagoshe , Mrs Anita Diwakar and Dr Ranjan from IIT Delhi(via skype)

at PVG’s COET campus.

A Skype meeting was also arranged on 26th Nov 2018 to discuss about smart virtual labs to time-

monitor the student activities while using virtual labs. DR Santosh Noronha, Mr Pushpdeep

Mishra, Prof Mrs Tanuja Khatavkar & Prof M C Nagoshe attended the meeting. Later it is

decided to work out a session for monitoring students during next outreach at Nashik on 29th Dec

2018.

Detailed Planner for 2nd National Boot camp at Gujarat University, Ahmedabad was chalked out

on 20th Dec 2018 at PVG’s COET. Mr Pushpdeep Mishra, Prof Mrs Tanuja Khatavkar & Prof M

C Nagoshe attended the meeting.

11] b. Regional Meetings: Aurangabad region Boot camp planning was done in a meeting held

on 16th Aug 2018 at PVG’s COET, Pune. Mr Pushpdeep Mishra, Mr Jai, Dr Abhilasha Mishra

(Regional Coord-MIT, Aurangabad), Dr Smita Kasar (Regional Tech. Coord-MIT, Aurangabad),

Prof Mrs Tanuja Khatavkar, Prof M C Nagoshe, Prof Mrs M. R. Apsangi, Prof. Mrs U. M.

Kalshetti were present for the meeting.

Regional Meet-IITB-Pune & Aurangabad

12] Webinar Series for Faculty from Nodal Centres registered under IITB:

a. Prof T S Khatavkar conducted a webinar on Pedagogy- Round 1 –New virtual lab content

Development to 12 nodal centres with 90 faculty on 27th March 2018.

b. Pushpdeep Mishra conducted webinar on Git on 5th April 2018 to faculty from various nodal

centres.

c. Prof M C Nagoshe conducted webinar on Simulator design on 10th April 2018 to almost 45

faculty.

13] a. New Lab Content Creation: Round-1 documentation on design of virtual lab and

pedagogy was submitted in July 2018 by the faculty developers Prof Mrs T. S. Khatavkar , Prof

M C Nagoshe, Prof Mrs M. R. Apsangi and Prof. Mrs U. M. Kalshetti for approval & evaluation

from IIT Bombay & IIT Delhi.

13] b. Hosting of experiments on IITB website: 54 new experiments developed by faculty &

students from PVG’s COET were submitted by IIT Bombay to to IIT Delhi.

13] c. New Lab Content Creation (WIP): The submission of documentation of additional 16

experiments developed by students and staff of PVG’s COET is in process.

14] Awareness Creation amongst stake holders: Faculty and students from Digitizers forum

established at PVG’s COET centre, exhibited the various activities related to Virtual Labs to the

NAAC mock committee and NAAC peer team visit. The students confidently explained the

concept, philosophy, utility of virtual labs to the stake holders viz. students, parents & industry

experts in the month of April 2018. Their efforts were appreciated by the committee and parents.
