Friends, It's hard to believe this is the last newsletter of 2019! Seems like just a short time ago I was writing the January newsletter article about 2019 being the Year of Compassion! And it has been a year of compassion! During this past year, we have sent international mission teams to Costa Rica, the Dominican Repub-lic, and Guatemala. We have distributed $48,462 to a number of local and regional ministries through our weekly Mission Box. We sent a building team - along with $34,612 collected on Christmas Eve 2018 -- to the panhandle of Florida to repair houses damaged by Hurricane Matthew. We have supported Ward Street Shelter, the Bethesda Shelter, and other local ministries. We have provided financial re-sources, volunteers, and a number of donations to our partner church New Story in Winston Salem. We have fed local needy families at Soup for Souls and provided much-needed groceries through the food pantry. And that's not all! Our Care Team along with our staff has visited countless members of our church family at home, in nursing homes and assisted living centers, and in hospitals. Our church family has provided meals for families going through challenging times, and provided many other acts of compassion to show the love of God in tangible ways both inside and outside the church. This list is surely incomplete. There's no way we could list every act of compassion that flowed from this church family during this year. And there is more to come with the Compassion Experience on Dec. 13-16. Please go to shadygroveumc.com to sign up for your time to go through the Experience. Then please be here on December 15th for Compassion Sunday! We will be partnering with Compassion Interna-tional to rescue children from poverty in Jesus' name. We can change the world, one child at a time! It's been a great year! Love is on the move at Shady Grove! Peace, Tom
