Savannah Baptist Association Missionary Rev. Rothell “Buddy” Wasson
Recently, I was asked by Joe Westbury of the Christian Index, “What is the greatest thing that is happening in
the Savannah Baptist Association?” My answer to him was, “Building relationships.” I am a very relational
person and I believe that to truly have a successful ministry, you have to be able to build relationships with
those to whom you desire to minister. I believe that the majority of Christ’s ministry was based on His
building relationships with people and if there has ever been anyone we should mimic, it should be the Lord
Jesus Christ.
With that being said, I believe that the overall health of Savannah Baptist Association is good. The
attendance, as well as the fellowship, at our Pastor’s Conferences has been really good. The information that I
am receiving from the Churches of the Savannah Baptist Association is that most churches are doing well and
the different Ministries of the Association are strong.
As an Association, we serve at the pleasure of the Associational Churches. It has been my goal, and the goal of
the Association Leadership, to avail ourselves to help the local church in any way. It would really surprise you
to know some of the things we are asked, but let me say that it is a joy and a privilege and truly a blessing to
help God’s churches. Might I say, “I’m having the time of my life, ministering to His Church.”
We are still working on our efforts for Evangelism and Missions in the Association. As we embark upon a new
year, Evangelism and Missions are at the forefront of our endeavors. Cuba is very much on our radar as our
International Mission effort.
We know that the Church is of most importance to Jesus Christ and we are aware that the Churches of the
Savannah Baptist Association are ministering in great ways where God has planted them. Our desire is to be a
ministry that facilitates joint cooperative efforts for His Church. Thank you for the privilege of serving you in
that capacity.

Mission Statement
The Savannah Baptist Center exists to bring glory to God by bringing churches, groups, and individuals
together to serve and meet the needs of our community.
A community serving a community….through the evolution of ministry…
The prayer ministry started in April 2015. That ministry serves as the common thread through all areas of the
Baptist Center.
The development process: Prayer ministry volunteers observed ministry situations and opportunities while
servingvolunteers requested additional trainingGod provided the materials and curriculummission

Clients are empowered and motivated through prayerful encouragementClients seek and receive work

Some class participants help to develop a new benevolence policy at their churchGod is glorified as
communication and guidance from Him is the foundation of all ministries at the Baptist Center.

Spring Break 2016
Our first spring break camp and 21 children attended! Volunteers and mission teams promoted, decorated,
taught, served, and provided two meals daily. Children that attended live in neighboring housing, attend
neighborhood churches, have participated in our summer camp, were part of our Christmas adopt a family
program, and/or are staying in local homeless shelters.
Summer Ministry
Thank you for your prayers this summer. We are grateful for the teams and mission groups that served with us
this summer. The teams joined us for children’s park ministry and 4 weeks of VBS summer day camp. They also
completed painting projects, yard work, and processed donations. We were also blessed to visit RA/GA camp
with three volunteers and presented information to adults and children about God’s work at the Center. We
are grateful for the offerings and items collected for the Center during Vacation Bible School at our
Associational churches.
Thanksgiving Food Bags
We are thankful for the many churches and individuals who contributed to this project. 25 bags of grocery
items needed for a Thanksgiving meal were provided. A $20 Kroger gift card and a Thanksgiving message were
included in each bag. The recipients of these bags include ladies who participate in women’s ministries at the
Center.
13
Christmas 2016 Community Christmas Dinner
Thank you to all who served and participated in our annual event. 128 people enjoyed a Christmas musical
performance and a wonderful lunch. Approximately 37 Baptist Center volunteers were joined by musicians and
choir members from a local church. What great fun, food, and fellowship as we serve our Lord!
Christmas Care Packages
Thank you to all who participated in this outreach event. Many churches contributed items, made tote bags,
assembled bags, and sorted donated items. 125 bags were prepared to share with those who receive services
at the Center. In addition to giving a gift to our clients, our goal was to share God’s love with our friends and
show them the true meaning of Christmas.
Thank you!

Seafarers Ministry 2016 Rev. Everett Tumblin, Director
1: Activity
The port of Savannah continues to grow in terms of vessels calling, cargo moved and stored, and opportunities to
befriend seafarers from many nations. From October 2015 through 30 September 2016, I performed ministry on 117
days/1049 hours, exceeding last year. One of our Chaplains with International Seamen’s House was ill during some of
the year and I increased my weekly hours in his absence. Roy Lee, volunteer from New Providence BC, Guyton, assisted
on many Thursday evenings, and is very helpful. We boarded 62 vessels, transporting 1389 seafarers on 162 shopping
trips and providing shuttle service to our facilities, where WI-FI, computers, phones, snacks, and games are available at
no cost to seafarers. I drove 9,051 miles. Thank you, Savannah Baptists, for enabling this witness and ministry.
2. Highlights:
Support from churches has been excellent this year and invitations to share the ministry personally was extended by Bull
Street, Calvary, Jasper Springs, Immanuel, Bonnybridge, and Isle of Hope. During mid-April, Georgia Baptist Mission
Board Women’s Ministry/WMU met on Jekyll Island for their Spring Event. This ministry was recipient of 554 hygiene
kits (ditty bags) from churches around the state and $110. I am well-endowed for upcoming Christmas/Easter
distribution. Hallelujah. These kits each contain practical items, a sweet, and a tract focused on the Savior, the Lord Jesus
Christ, and His salvation.
Christmas 2015 provided many doors of witness and ministry. I distributed many knit caps to those in deck work, along
with the ditty bags, to hundreds. Bonnybridge BC gave a large donation of Ramen Noodles, popcorn, and cookies, which
also gladdened the hearts of many. Several ships expressed great thanksgiving to me personally, including MAERSK
WOLFSBURG, MSC LAURA, OSAKA EXPRESS, and MOL MISSION. The hit of the season was the 5” hand-lathed wooden
jeeps made and shipped to me by Dan Owens of Albany, GA. I ask if someone has small children and then give them this
gift which has JESUS LOVES ME burned on the hood. As the child plays with the jeep, this message is present. New Salem
BC has an excellent outreach ministry with hand-carved wooden crosses packaged with the Ten Commandments, the
Lord’s Prayer, and the Beatitudes in a plastic bag. They have shared these with me and I gave one on September 30th to a
Chinese seaman off MSC KINGSTON, whom I had taken shopping. He has heard of Jesus, but knows little. As he struggles
to read the Bible verses and look at the cross, he will learn more.
3. Verse of the year: “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John

Savannah Baptist Assembly
The Savannah Baptist Assembly has been a busy place this year. Along with the usual activities such as camps, church
groups, and family reunions, we have also hosted volunteers who came especially to minister to the Assembly and the
Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief Chain Saw Training.
There were also renovations to the upstairs sleeping rooms in the big house and churches donated money
toward a brand new lawn mower.
We had an uninvited visitor in October. Hurricane Matthew came through and left a big mess. Several of our buildings
are damaged and there are trees down all over the place. Activities at the Assembly have been suspended until it can be
cleaned up and repaired so that all of our guests will have a safe place to come to.
Please pray for the Savannah Baptist Assembly. We may be a little off our game but God still has big plans for us.

Armstrong Baptist Collegiate Ministries Tony Branham, Director
A lot has happened since the Savannah Baptist Associational meeting in the fall of 2015. Several students
served as short term missionaries in India during the Christmas break. Two teams served during spring break.
One group assisted with Camp Jackie, which is a weekend camp experience for special needs children. At least
one student changed majors as a result of this experience. Another group of 15 students were active with
Georgia Mountain Resort ministries. The group assisted with trail ministry, did an afterschool program in a
trailer park, taught classes in conjunction with the local High school, did some painting, and whatever else
Keith Ivey needed the group to do.
The BCM exceeded its goal of $5500 for BCM summer missions. Seven students went all around the world
through BCM “Send Me Now” summer missions, representing Armstrong and the Lord Jesus.
A number of salvations and lots of great stories of how God was at work around the world were the result.
On the home front, an average of 100 people attended the weekly lunch program where students were
challenged to grow in their faith. Thanks to our local churches, we had 27 lunches during the year. Fifty
students were involved in discipleship where a high level of accountability was expected. Lots of weekly
activities and fun events took place. A number of international events, fellowships, outreach activities, and
intramural activities were a part of the overall plans for the year.
Some students graduated and new leaders stepped in to fill their shoes. Discipleship continues to take place
week to week. Students are being challenged to share their faith on campus. Learning how to live a life for
Christ continues to be an important part of the ministry of the Armstrong BCM.

Disaster Relief
With the onset of Hurricane Matthew on October 9, 2016, the Savannah Association became the command
center for Disaster Relief. Because of this ministry, many people in Savannah and the surrounding areas
received free tree removal. The many churches and businesses in the Savannah Community stepped out and
donated time, money, and supplies to make sure that the Disaster Relief volunteers were housed and fed
during the time they were here.
During the weekend of October 21-23, there was a call for volunteers to help. Many Disaster Units from across
the state joined us, including BSU students and many of you. Thank you for your willingness to work together
in Christ’s name.

Meeting Minutes 67th Annual Fall Meeting
October 20, 2015 Savannah Baptist Center
Pre-session music was provided by Donna Jackson.
Rev. Albert Hill, Moderator of the Savannah Baptist Association, called the meeting to order.
Donna Jackson presented another song.
Rev. Buddy Wasson read the 133rd Psalm and spoke of unity.
Bro. Tommy Pirtle reported the enrollment of messengers. There were 21 churches, 80 messengers, and 32 guests present.
Rev. Albert Hill presented the 2016 budget. It was voted on and passed.
Assembly committee members and Center trustees were presented and approved.
Rev. Buddy Wasson presented a plaque to Rev. Albert Hill, stating appreciation for his faithful service this year as moderator. Bro. Albert thanked SBA for allowing him to serve.
Rev. Buddy Wasson challenged the group about the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary extension. It may be moving its location in 6 to 9 months but we are not sure yet. We have Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs. As in any new extension, we are in a 5 year probation period. We currently have 3 students for Leavell College. If we do not grow student-wise, we will not be able to continue. We have reached out and had radio advertisements. God wants us to pray for students. Rev. Wasson asked the group to commit to 30 days of prayer for the extension and that students would come. He mentioned that pastors of churches of under 250 in membership have access to a scholarship. He asked them to stand if they were willing to pray. Rev. Wasson prayed, thanking God for those who committed to 30 days of prayer.
Bill Gammon gave presentations for VBS. Chevis Oaks and FBC Garden City went ahead of year before. Higher Ground, South Newington, and North Salem also received awards. One church hit it out of the box. Godley Station received a large painting as the Savannah Baptist Association achievement award. Bro. Bill challenged churches that VBS is greatest tool for reaching families. He is concerned to see reports with no salvations listed. Families are brought to you that need to hear about Jesus. Children hear so think about the families.
Rev. Buddy Wasson recognized the new pastors of the Savannah Baptist Association. Three months ago, 13 churches were without pastors. Now there are 7. Welcome and we will help you any way we possibly can.
New Pastors are:
Rev. Phillip Campbell Windsor Forest
Rev. Doug Cone Interim at Whitemarsh
Matthew Gallant minister of music and youth South Newington
Rev. Andy Hammack at Victory
Dr. Gary Lewis at FBC Rincon
Rev. Robby Norman Corinth
Evan Powel youth at Immanuel

Rev. Jason Rowe at Bloomingdale
Ethan Scott students at Woodlawn
Rev. Albert Hill encouraged pastors to come to pastor’s conferences on Mondays.
The Commissioning Service for Stephanie Carr was started.
Rev. Albert Hill, as Moderator of Savannah Baptist Association, presented Stephanie Carr as a candidate for commissioning. He stated that a Stewart must be found faithful. “She is faithful and has a heart for God”.
Susan Bragg read the letter of commission from the SBC trustees, recommending Stephanie Carr to be commissioned. The vote was unanimous.
Rev. Stan Stones spoke. He said that God has brought this center through so many things that could not have happened if it was not God’s will. “We believe that it is God’s will that Stephanie Carr lead the center”.
Pam Crovatt read a letter from Beth Ann Williams, Ex. Director of state WMU.
Johnny Bowen shared three points with Stephanie. “This is the individual that God placed here to do the work of the Center.” He quoted Hebrew 11:6. “She is not here to please people, but to please God. God called and equipped her.” He reminded her to always please and seek God. “Look unto Jesus. In ministry there will be ups and downs. You must put your full trust in Him and allow Him to lead you. Don’t you ever forget where you came from. We have a close tie because of where we are from”. He had a hat from West Virginia.
Frank Nuckolls, from GBC, brought greetings from Dr. J. Robert White. “Thank you for missions to cooperative program. We come to set aside and commission Stephanie Carr. We set her apart to serve as a missionary in Savannah. We are all commissioned to be on mission to Christ as we go. We go in the power of Christ to make a difference with him. We are commissioned to work along beside her to make a difference in the lives of people here in Savannah. I challenge everyone to remember that we all are commissioned to work together in the mission field to honor and serve God as we go”.
Rev. Buddy Wasson charged the candidate. “Why are we commissioning Stephanie Carr? IMB is no longer commissioning missionaries. Now GBC is making up the difference. We still want her to be commissioned”. Bro. Buddy asked Stephanie to sit up front. He charged the candidate with Phil. 1:1 and shared things to be in the ministry. This is part of his B series.
1. Be faithful - Continue to be faithful to God, His calling, and your family. 2. Be friendly – There will be times when you don’t want to be friendly. Be friendly even when it is not
easy. You are representing Christ, the Center, and the Association. 3. Be firm – It is not always easy but sometimes you have to stand your ground. It’s ok to say no. You will
be pulled every which way if you did not. We will help you. 4. Be forgiving – People will say or do things to hurt you. It is not easy to be forgiving but we have to.
Don’t let it get in your soul where you carry it around. 5. Be fresh – Don’t become stale. Have new energy and new thoughts. 6. Be fearless – Sometimes it is easier to cower down but we have to stand. God’s power will help you.
His holy spirit protects us. 7. Be fervent – Be on fire for Jesus Christ always. Don’t let anything put that fire out. 8. Be yourself – Don’t let people change you. We love you the way you are.
Rev. Wasson invited trustees and leadership of GBC and Association to come forward and pray with Stephanie.
Rev. Wasson presented Mrs. Carr with a commissioning certificate, a Bible, & a gift card.
41
Johnny Bowen presented Hollie Hart and asked that she be recognized as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Savannah Baptist Center.
The officers for 2016 were installed.
Stan Stones - Moderator.
Dwayne Dasher - Moderator-Elect. He is conducting Disaster relief tonight so he is not here.
Tommy Pirtle - Clerk
Connie Martin – Financial Secretary and Assistant Clerk
Stephen Bell - Treasurer
Gay Donovan – Assistant Treasurer
These candidates were brought before the congregation as the staff for 2016. Everyone was asked to gather around them and pray.
Rev. Buddy Wasson gave the closing prayer for the commissioning service and for the staff members.
The meeting was adjourned.
Refreshments were served by the Savannah Baptist Center.
Submitted by: Tommy Pirtle Clerk, Savannah Baptist Association

1. The Savannah Baptist Center finished $48,019.92 in the black for the first time. 2. A new copier has been purchased that will save the Association much money over the next 5 years.
Formerly the copier was costing $6,000 per year in lease payments. The new copier costs $5,000.00 and is owned by the Association with monthly payments based on the copies made.
3. Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief training was held this month in Blackshear. There were 12 people from our area churches that participated.
4. The New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary currently has an Undergraduate Class. Interest has been expressed in beginning a Certification Program.
5. New church staff members were recognized. There is a new Minister of Music at Immanuel Baptist Church and Jasper Springs and Sand Hill both have new pastors.
6. There is a possibility of a Mission trip to Cuba in the future. 7. Rev. Buddy Wasson would like to see more than 17 out of 66 churches represented at the Executive
Meetings. He is willing to speak at any church regarding the work of the Association.
42
Stephanie Carr from the Savannah Baptist Center Thank you for all the support that helped the Center finish out the year in the black. There are currently 75 volunteers serving at the Baptist Center. Help for those with alcohol or drug additions is in place and there is an ongoing Bible Study now with the men at the Oasis.
Services that were provided this past year:
Women’s Bible study, Sewing and Music – 537
Benevolent – 93; Food Pantry – 224
Clothes Closet – 2,135
Oasis – 6,317
There is currently a Book Study being done on “When Helping Hurts”. This is the beginning of the Center becoming a Mission Training Center. There are 18 people attending, representing 11 churches.
Please pray that all we do bring glory to God.
Kevin Alley from the Savannah Baptist Assembly - There is much happening at the Assembly. We have the Becoming the Crown Jewel Conference, a Men’s Conference and our summer Children’s Summer Camp to name a few. There have been renovations done on the upstairs sleeping rooms by volunteers. We continue to have many opportunities for churches to come and volunteer. Please keep the Assembly in your prayers.
Seafarer’s Ministry - Rev. Billy Miller from Isle of Hope was recognized for his help with the Ministry and the ladies of the church for providing goody bags during the year. There are 8 - 10 vessels visiting the ports each day. There are typically 25 seamen and women on each ship. Services provided are shopping, SIM cards and Wi-Fi at the Seaman’s house. Mr. Dan Owens, a carpenter from Albany, has been making wooden cars with “Jesus Loves me” stamped on them. They are given to the sailors to take home to their children.
World Changes Coordinator - World Changers Week is June 13 – 18. This year there is an added ministry. We are seeking six (6) churches to allow a group to come into their community to do whatever needs to be done.
BCM – Armstrong - The theme for this year is “Transformation”. The activities that have happened or being planned are:
A retreat at Pineora Baptist Assembly
Summer Missionaries
A Mission trip to Helen, Georgia in the spring.
OLD BUSINESS: The Nominating Committee for 2016 is comprised of Rev. Billy Miller, Rev. Darrell Bailey and Rev. Johnny Bowen.
There is a need to amend the Constitution and By-Laws in Article 7 – Doctrinal Statement. There also needs to be an additional document added to the Constitution and By-Laws outlining how the churches are to handle their standing on same sex marriage in light of new legislature. Both of these changes will be presented at the Spring Executive Meeting.
NEW BUSINESS: Rev. Buddy Wasson asked for approval to use the budget line item titled “Asian Ministry” to pay for postage to send used literature to the Philippines. There was a time of discussion.

Annual Spring Meeting South Newington Baptist Church
Tuesday, March 22, 2016
South Newington Baptist Church blessed us with a delicious dinner before the meeting began.
Pre-session music was provided by South Newington Baptist Church.
The meeting was called to order by Rev. Stan Stones, Moderator.
South Newington Baptist Church brought us more inspirational music.
Rev. Steve McCoy welcomed everyone to South Newington Baptist Church, which has been in Bloomingdale for 173 years. He read from Romans 12 about serving and honoring God. Rev. McCoy thanked all of the people who helped in cooking and preparing the meal and led in prayer.
Tommy Pirtle presented the number of messengers – 65 messengers representing 25 churches. ASSOCIATIONAL MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS Rev. Buddy Wasson recognized the new pastors – Rev. David Feldkamp from Sand Hill Baptist Church, Rev. Matt Hines from Baptist Church at Ebenezer, and Rev. Dale Simmons of Jasper Springs Baptist Church.
Rev. Johnny Bowen presented the Ministry Team nominations from the Nominating Committee. (See attached document). These names will be voted on at the Fall Meeting. There are still some openings so please be in prayer.
There is a correction in the minutes for the March 22nd Executive Committee. The Savannah Baptist Center was reported to have finished $48,019.92 in the black. The actual number was $7,253.97.
An amendment to the Constitution and By-Laws was introduced by Rev. Stan Stones to be voted on in October at the Fall Meeting. The proposal is to change the first sentence of the Doctrinal Statement (Article VII) from “The New Testament is the guide…” to “The Holy Bible is the core of our faith guide…” This is to help with legal issues that may come up because of recent Supreme Court decisions.
An announcement was made that the Savannah Baptist Center will be holding a fund-raiser golf tournament in the spring. They need more people to participate.
A special offering was taken for a new lawn mower for the Savannah Baptist Assembly. $393.00 was collected.

Dr. Morgan Kerr, our GBMB Executive Committee Representative, gave a report from the GBMB Executive Committee, stating that, while there are many changes happening with the IMB, we are putting our faith in God to get us through it. He also stated that all of the Southern Baptist Personnel in Belgium are safe.
Dr. Steve King and Rev. Quillian Mercer presented the plan for Evangelism Ministry Strategy – bringing the City of Savannah to Christ. We will be coordinating efforts to reach the city. There are three events planned to come together and pray. There will be some training events that pastors need to go to or send someone from their church. They asked for prayer for evangelism, mission opportunities, block parties, and prayer walks. The plan is to divide the city up into quadrants, with all other churches helping those churches within that quadrant. The City of Savannah is probably 70-80% lost. There are also some other mission opportunities being considered in New York and Cuba.
Rev. Buddy Wasson introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Brooks Cail from First Baptist Church of the Islands.
South Newington Baptist Church inspired us with special music.
Inspirational Speaker - Br. Cail preached on Nehemiah, Chapter 11. Sometimes quitting something is really winning. Giving our life to Jesus and quitting the old life produces a winning situation.
Rev. Buddy Wasson led in the final prayer, after thanking South Newington Baptist Church and others who helped get everything together. Submitted by Connie Martin Savannah Baptist Association Financial Secretary/Assistant Clerk March 22, 2016

Savannah Baptist Ministry Reports
Rev. Buddy Wasson, Associational Missionary, spoke on the health of the association. We are thriving for the most part,
but lacking some in unity and cooperation. We only have16 churches here tonight. We are doing well financially with a
good reserve. Thank you for giving. I feel that I have good relationships with all pastors of association. We usually had 22
or 23 pastors at the pastor’s meetings this summer. We had 22 yesterday.
Rev. Buddy Wasson announced the names of new pastors.
Rev. Mark Gentry at Windsor Forest

Rev. John Crunkleton at Skidaway Island
Rev. Phillip Palmer at FBC Pt. Wentworth
Rev. Paul Pinel has gone from Interim to Pastor at Quacco
Rev. Houngjik Kim at Savannah Korean Church
Rev. David Woods is new Interim at Countryside
All churches need to send in ACRs. It is good for us to have this information.
The Annual Fall Meeting is coming up next month at FBC Garden City. We will be honoring Jim Staubes.
We could possibly have a mission trip to Cuba next year. Alan Harrison shared about trips to Cuba. To get a religious visa
takes 90 days. If we are going to plan the trip for February or March, we need 8 people to contact me within next week
to let me know that they plan on going. The costs would be $1250 per person and a $3000 construction fee for the
group. We will be going into a communist country. We cannot have American thoughts.
The GA Baptist Convention is Nov 13 & 15. You will need to register your messengers online. Sunday is inspiration night.
The Pastors Conference is Monday afternoon. We need help with registration, prayer, and set-up and take-down. The
Prayer Room is important. Thank you for allowing our staff to serve you. It is a privilege to be part of the association.
Stephanie Carr, Savannah Baptist Center Director stated that she has been the director for 3 years. The services totaled
15,891 in the last 12 months.
Spring break camp - A team came and 21children attended. We hope to do again next year in March.
Summer missions –We had 4 weeks of VBS plus went to Blackshear basketball camp near us in the afternoons.
We went to RA & GA camp and talked about SBC.
You collected money and ministry items for us in VBS. Thank you.
This year is the first time that I could report 12 months of services.
o Bible study, sewing – 548
o Food Pantry – 466
o Benevolence - 99
o Clothes Closet – 2229
o Oasis – 12549
We started our prayer ministry 6 months ago. Prayer is the starting point of everything. God showed me in the last
couple of weeks that everything is grounded in communication with the Father. Volunteers asked us to teach them how
to do missions. The mission class started in February. Volunteers took the class and they are encouraging clients,
changing their focus and developing hope. Now the clients are asking for clothes for interviews. They went from despair
to hope. Some volunteers went to their churches and developed this type of missions involvement. These are your
churches. They are praying with people. I see that in action. Last year, I read you a letter from a homeless person. This
year something unexpected happened. Volunteers were changed so this year, I have a letter from volunteer. This letter
states how this has changed her life. Please come pray in the prayer room. Pastors speak kind words of encouragement
to me and I appreciate it.
Kevin Alley, Savannah Baptist Assembly Director stated that it is a privilege to serve alongside everyone. Summer was
busy. We had children’s camp, VBS, church groups, and several other activities. We had a chance to witness the hearts
of people who cross our gates. Disaster Relief Chain Saw School was here last weekend. We continue to host volunteers
and have several workdays scheduled. Missions group can help assembly to work on projects. Thank you.
Rev. Everett Tumblin, Seafarer’s Ministry Director read from Luke 2:21. I have had many brief encounters with people. I
will share one. I was bringing a group back from Walmart. The ship was from Turkey. We provide transportation free of
cost. There was a man on duty that could not leave ship. He came down and said, “Do you remember me?” A couple of
46
years ago he asked me if I had ever been to turkey. I said that I had not. The man took out a Turkish 5 dollar bill and gave
it to me for taxi fare if I ever came. He has 2 children. I gave him a wooden jeep that was made by man in Albany. Dan
makes these for me to give out. Postage is a lot but he has a love for seafarers. The hood of the jeep says, “Jesus loves
me.” They are getting message. It is important to show and tell people that Jesus loves them. Everybody ought to know
who Jesus is and what he has done for them.
Tony Branham, Baptist Collegiate Ministries Director spoke and a student shared, thanking the churches for providing
them a way to learn how to be leaders. “Investment” is the theme for this year. Investment is what God gives us with
the gospel and what we do with it. Thank you to churches for food and the church fair. There is a student who wants to
be minister but his parents want him to be an engineer. Pray for him. We are trying to reach the next generation.
Dessert Theater is coming up. The proceeds will go to Sendmenow missions. We had many students go out last year and
have more students interested in going next year but we need money to send them.
Changes in by laws
Rev. Stan Stones stated that a change in the doctrine statement was sent out to all churches several months ago. The
requirement is that any changes to the By-Laws have to be sent out 4 months prior to vote. He read over the changes.
We will vote on it at annual fall meeting on 18th. See attachment.
Nomination Committee Recommendations
Rev. Johnny Bowen read the list of recommended nominations. The GBMB representative will be discussed in a few
minutes. We need a director for the Church development team. If you are interested, please see Johnny or Buddy. The
slate was approved but will be voted on at the Fall Meeting.
Budget
The budget will not be voted on until fall meeting. Susan Bragg requested that the WMU budget be changed from $1600
to $1775. Rev. Buddy Wasson stated that we brought the budget down by $20,000 so he would like to increase the
Associational Mission Trips line item to $4000 or $5000. Rev. Bowen made a motion to increase to it to $5000. A vote
was taken and carried to change the amount on both line items.
Policy change for Savannah Baptist Assembly
Rev. Stan Stones presented a policy change for the Savannah Baptist Assembly. See attachment. This policy change will
be placed in Operations Manual. The Administration Team changed this policy and it does not need to be voted on.
GBMB ECM Nomination
Dr. Morgan Kerr is moving, so he is resigning from the position of GBMB ECM Representative. We need to select
someone to fulfill his 1 year commitment. We will send two names and GMB will choose from them. Rev. Quillian
Mercer, Rev. Albert Hill, and Dr. Johnny Bowen were nominated. GBMB requires that the nominee’s church gives at least
6% to the Cooperative Program. These churches do. All three accepted the nominations. Ballots were handed out and
Members were instructed to write down two names and the top two will be sent in. The top 2 were Dr. Johnny Bowen
and Rev. Albert Hill. We will send these in tomorrow.
Rev. Buddy Wasson led the closing prayer.
Refreshments were provided by The Church at Godley Station.
